  1. Not that it is the point of the thread but I will address your questions. You are right, from the outside looks a whole lot greener, right? lol Oldham County had a revenue 64 million dollars last year. I think having one nice turf field (that you have to pay to play on) is not showing that much support. With a budget like that there should be a lot more money instead of the tokens that are thrown out just to look good to the outside. As far as 2 gyms at each high school, the 2 at OCHS are HORRIBLE!! My kids use both of these facilities and while they did a great "make over" on the main gym by painting and re-polishing the floor, there are more dead spots on that floor than there are holes in swiss cheese. Why not spend a little more money and really fix the floor instead of covering it up? Yes, they are moving toward baseball and softball programs in the middle schools, do you think that is bc of the board? That's funny. I know of 2 of the teams that were started and it was the parents not the board. They had to jump thru a lot of hoops just to get those started and there wasn't a lot of support from the board. I have been here for 6 years, moved here for work and 2nd year that they haven't let out when the team is playing in the Sweet 16. Which is the point of the thread. OC plays at noon on Wednesday and my kids who have watched a lot of games both girls and boys this year will get an unexcused absence because they are in elementrary school and going to watch their high school play in the sweet 16.

  2. Old Guy, I agree if the game is at 8:00. But for the kids that have teams that play at noon (OC) they should not be penalized for showing school spirit and going down to support their team. We are going and taking our elementary school kids with us from Wed thru Sun and will just have to be unexcused. I think that it is ridiculous. I have said since I moved to this county that there is no emphasis on athletics here, just another example to prove my point. I'm sure I will get the response, that our academics are so good and that is where the focus is and yes, for the most part they are but there is a happy medium and the Oldham County Board of Education has yet to find it. I think that it is a shame that they show such a lack of support for their student athletes.

  3. IMO, Sydney is an incredible player. I was one of the ones that really thought that Boone had a chance to win it all. She is a fun player to watch. She can take over a game any time that she wants. I know that a lot of people were expecting her to do just that and when she didn't people want to know why but let's remember she is still a kid. Although she is talented at the end of the day she is still a kid.

Congrats to NCC. Good luck at Diddle.

  4. Very disappointed in the Simon Kenton crowd last night. I bet they didn't have 25 students there not counting the band.

I agree. When I first sat down I texted someone to see what size of school that SK was and was astonished to know it was a 6 A school. Hard to believe with that kind of crowd. It was a hard fought game on both sides. OC got in foul trouble in the first half as 4 of the starters were on the bench toward the end of the 2nd quarter. They came out on an 8-0 run to start the 3rd but SK battled back. I really like the big guy, Junior, from SK. He came off the bench and played very well.

  5. Hobo is about 6'2" and is shooting over 50% from the field (both 2 and 3 point shots combined) and he is shooting 80% from the line. Last night in their first regional game he had 42 and was 6 for 8 from the 3 point range. This kid is a lot of fun to watch and to top it off he is a great kid off the court as well. Unfortunately, as CC said, he is all PCC has. He has already signed to play for Pikeville College who is ranked in the top 25 in the NAIA right now. Kelly Wells, former state champion coach from Mason County is the coach there and doing a great job. I would love it if Hobo made it to Rupp so the rest of the state could watch the leading scorer do his thing. Last night, the favorite in the 15th (Johnson Central) was knocked out by reigning state champion, Shelby Valley. Pike Central will meet Shelby Valley in the semi-finals on Monday. Earlier in the year PCC beat Shelby Valley by 22, not that it means anything because it is March Madness.

  6. This year the 15th is down but they do have the leading scorer in the state. Hobo McCoy is averaging more than 40 points a game and shooting over 50% from the field. He plays for Pike County Central. They may not make a run at the state title but he is a very fun player to watch.

Johnson Central, Betsy Layne and Pikeville High are the top 3 teams in the region. (2 of the 3 are single A schools).
