Just like the Hazard game. If Pikeville will run the ball at Somerset and smack them down, they win. If they run a bunch of trickery and get into a passing league-style game, it will be a long night. Here's hoping they learned from the Hazard game and just LINE IT UP AND RUN OVER SOMERSET. :fight:

John Jones, #32, of Somerset is not your ideal noseguard, especially when you consider that he is around 5'8'' 145 LBS. However, when he was getting reps early in the year, and wreaking absolutely havoc on opponent's backfields, the coaches knew he was a perfect fit for Somerset's quick defensive line. I don't have any stats, but he should be well over 10 sacks on the season and his stats for fumbles aren't too far behind. IMO, this kid's stats and fundamentals make him one of the best noseguards in EKY. Offensive coordinators have to center their offensive line's blocking schemes around this kid, otherwise their backs are in for a long night.

I think NCC will come out and make a very strong statement in this game. Bellevues outstanding year comes to an abrupt end.. NCC 35-12

Bellevue will able to get a little bit more offense going than they did last time (wet field), but it won't be enough. NCC will probably also play better in better conditions, and being that they handled the adversity better last time and won, I think they will probably win a little bigger, especially in the playoffs. They will be well-prepared, and hoping in the back of their minds that Beechwood will make it past LCA so they can prove that the regular season loss was a fluke.

This is true. I haven't been necessarily so pro-Somerset on the message boards, because when it has come to Pikeville, dominant or "top-dog" aren't the words I would use to describe Somerset. What would be perceived as my cockiness are my posts concerning years past. Pikeville has been good in many years past, and so has Somerset, and unfortunately, Somerset hasn't fared too well against Pikeville the past two years. I feel like this is the year that Somerset will win. Huffman and Robinson are two names we know quite well in this area, and don't think for a minute that Somerset doesn't know that Pikeville won't bring it's A-game. I look for Somerset to come out in this game fired up with a vengeance from those years past, and hungry to advance on their quest for the prize. I hope everyone stays injury-free and has a good week to make this game what everyone is waiting for. Go Jumpers!

How does Pikeville operate with their quarterback rotation? The only name I have been familiar with is Huffman, who has always impressed me. As I've said before, I watched him vs. Corbin. He is blazing fast, throws a good ball, and was a vocal leader that night. I'm not taking anything away from the other QB (#8 I believe), but I just wondered what the reason for the rotation was. Does one run and the other pass better, or what?

I don't know about who is top dog this year. Also Pikeville might have always been the big dog in this region but I promise you that they wouldn't even have been close to top dog in the region Somerset was in before they came to the mountain region. If Somerset was in the region then, you may have a new view of who is the "top dog". But I will give Pikeville credit they are very good but I am about tired of the boastfulness and cockiness displayed by some of the Pikeville posters.

I agree with all that. I guess it's all in good spirit though, Chief. There's one thing that is 100% for sure, and that is the madness is about to begin, and a lot of questions will be answered. I wish all teams the best of luck, and hope that everyone makes it to the second round or "home" with no injuries.

This year, Somerset has managed to avoid injury, turning the ball over excessively, shooting themselves in the foot, and giving up. These are the things that hampered them in each of the past 3 years. Last year the defense was terrible too. Guess what? This isn't the years past. In years past, Pikeville has dominated this area and this region. They didn't this year. And back to Somerset, as long as they keep doing what they need to do, I don't think anyone has any more to boast about, hence all of my blunt comments. When I discuss things on here I try to pick out good and bad things that can affect games. When I see no respect for this Somerset team that deserves it, it gets a little heated. Posts 9, 26, 28, 29, and 30 are what I'm talking about. This isn't about last year, two years ago. Paintsville deserves credit, and so does Somerset.

Obviously they aren't top dog this year. I don't know who is yet, but they got drubbed by Hazard. And what does Hazard do? Pass. Somerset? Pass. If Pikeville defends the Somerset passing game enough to win, I will give credit where credit is due.

Also Somerset will have to be 1000% improved from the team that Pikeville spanked 37-7 last year with the dogs called off early and subs playing most of the 2nd half.

This isn't last year, and we are. Somerset will be calling the dogs off this year.

In response to Legaer's posts throughout this thread and about this topic. It's not possible to commend other teams for their accomplishments. I believe the people on the field will be taking the game seriously though. Just sarcasm.

I'll still go out on a limb here and say that the Lynn Camp/Paintsville game will be much closer than the Somerset/Pikeville game. Also say that Paintsville has a much better chance against Lynn Camp at home than Pikeville at Somerset. However, I hope Pikeville wins in the 1st and 2nd round. Go Panthers. ( I just threw up a little after I typed that)

According to the general concensus, Paintsville's chances might be infinitely better against Lynn Camp, because Lynn Camp probably won't be traveling to Paintsville if they don't take Hazard a little more seriously. I think Lynn Camp will win, but Hazard isn't to be taken lightly. It will be a shootout.

I wasn't sure what direction you were going with my statement, another good post by jumper. I agree, just reading this post got me excited about watching a playoff game Friday night.

This region is wide open and I expect to see good games all the way through the region, starting this Friday.

I was backing up your sarcasm. Again, I agree that this region is wide open. The intangibles will decide who wins this region. The favorites all have talent. They all have go-to players. They all have their bread and butter. Some pass. Some run. Some have good defenses. Some try to keep their defenses off the field. Coaching, mental preparation, scouting, focus, heart, desire, and will shall decide this region, because the talent basically cancels out. Each game will hold "X-Factor" players, and they won't be the big names. It will be the guys on special teams, in the trenches, and some in the secondary. Newell, Norman, Cole, Robinson, Huffman, Chaffin, Reynolds, Thompson, Mefford, Olinger, O' Steen, and so on will be the names you'll see in the Friday paper. They will be key, but I don't think they will decide this region.

Seriously man, give it a rest. I know you Pikeville folks have it out for Paintsville but good lord. If Pikeville is to meet Somerset I'd at least wish them luck and go on about my business. Pikeville won by 6, let's move on to the playoffs. I guess the regional title game will be Somerset vs. Lynn Camp then since all of District 8 teams are average at best they did end in a tie after all.

I know everyone can make an argument when there isn't an outright district champion, but the region championship could feature a team from each district, two teams from the 8th, or two teams from the 7th. The Class A Preview states it best...this is the MOST wide open region in the state, and personally, I think it's the toughest.

No way Hazard or Paintsville wins it...but we shall see.

While I agree that Somerset and Lynn Camp are the favorites, they aren't by much. LC99's statement is very true. As we saw in District 8 over the final weeks, and a 41-40 nailbiter between Somerset and Lynn Camp, this region is wide open. It's anyone's for the taking, it's just a matter of who wants it the most.

I think with the move the coaches made last Friday against Paintsville of John Michael Mayo to QB is just what the Panthers needed. Chase Huffman will still contribute on the offensive side of the ball as he is an explosive athlete. I think if Pikeville's offense can be consistent and productive, their defense is good enough to bring home the Region 4 crown. It won't be easy though.

Did they put him at WR? He played defense anyway didn't he? I was at the Corbin game earlier this year, but I just knew he was the QB. He's lightning quick and has a cannon, that's all I remember. Making a change like that in the rotation this late in the year might not be such a good idea. Somerset put it's starting QB from last year at corner, where he has been starting all year and has really made a name for himself. Huffman too might be a better fit somewhere else, but is that a good call in the first round of the playoffs?
