  1. Seems like LC is down this year, but this game has been a good one over the past few years. If the classes weren't being changed, you might even say it was a rivalry. Anyway, the LC backfield could have a huge game if Somerset doesn't tackle well. Somerset's offense should put points on the board but this will be a good test to see how far the defense has come along. Also, game is at LC, which could factor into a lot of things.

    Somerset - 52

    LC - 27

  2. Somerset did NOT play the way they are capable of playing. I don't know what the deal was. Cam Jones, Michael Hager, Philip Lowery, and Ross Deaton just to name a few can really lay the wood, but we got ran all over and didn't seem like we wanted to play football tonight. I was really disappointed with the taunting I saw by Franklin players in the game and the decision to fake a punt while up 32 points. I was in the endzone and was really disgusted. VERY VERY bad sportsmanship from the away team tonight, but that doesn't change the score. Going to be some long practices in Pulaski County this week. Get back to the basics guys and start tackling...lets get the job done next week.

  3. At this point I don't know who should be favored. Somerset has had two questionable scrimmages so far. Our seniors need to step up and be leaders on the field.

I wouldn't by any means consider Franklin the underdog either, as I'm sure you would agree jumper1. Don't get me wrong I hope Somerset wins them all, but we have some areas of concern. It's hard to replace a senior class (and a completely senior secondary minus one corner) of 13 or 14 players. Hunter and possibly Cowan being down doesn't help our chances either. I hope we win this game, and we do have as much of a chance as Franklin, but regardless this game doesn't matter when it comes down to playoff time and I hope that Franklin makes our secondary better. Hughes, Deaton, and Cole are offensive standouts and I look for them to have their usual A games--the question will be if Cam Jones and this talented senior group can grasp the mental edge and lead this football team--take charge of practices, pick people up, and make big plays. If they do that, this will be a scary team come November. I don't know much about Franklin, except rumors of a potent offense...so I'm going to retract my earlier prediction and go w/ Somerset 42 Franklin Co. 34

  4. We had heard that he hurt it pretty bad. Glad to hear all is well. Looking forward to seeing you guys this fall. Don't know much about Franklin, but know that the Jumpers will be a handfull. I'll go with the Jumpers by 6 in the blind.

You might possibly be talking about his brother, Andy, who messed his knee up badly in a basketball game last year, and then again in the baseball postseason. Having Ray Norman as an upperclassman in front of John Cole last year was very beneficial to us. Cole got a lot catches when Ray was the focus of opponents' secondaries, so he should have a monster year this year w/ his experience. Hope he stays well...injuries have really plagued Somerset stars in the past few years.

Sounds like things are looking good down at the Camp this year. Hope you guys have a good injury-free year! Hope our game is as good as the last!

    Somerset 28

    Franklin 26

  5. Franklin Co. will no doubt be a tough obstacle to overcome. The growth of our secondary this offseason will determine a lot of things. Somerset's offense shouldn't be a concern passing or running. A loss to Franklin Co. in the season opener won't mean one thing or another for Somerset though....a top 15 team in 3A should be able to win class A fairly handily, so regardless of the outcome, I look for Somerset to have a good year.

  6. Danville should be very good this year! Do you know if somerset is comming to Danville this year? ;)

Had a discussion with a gentleman who is pretty involved in the program yesterday, who mentioned Somerset traveling to Danville this year. Danville returning all but 4 or 5 starters, far more than Somerset. Will be interesting to see how Somerset makes up for their losses between now and then. (I.e. offseason, weightlifting, and mentality). For those who were wondering like me

    I think Somerset's preseason is:

    Franklin County

    Southwestern

    Warren East

    Danville

I don't see why they couldn't win them all if they get in the weightroom.

  7. somerset will not have as much talent because you can't replace players like scottie and ray. But I think we can work hard in the off season and be a more physical team. And I think we can do just as good next season.

Ray Norman wasn't even the leading receiver last year, and Ross Deaton amassed well over 2,000 yards. Hughes at FB, Hunter at RB, Moore and Cole split...this team will put points on the board. They return the DL except John Jones, 2/4 linebackers, and Kyle Moore at corner. Filling in the secondary is the major task at hand. I wouldn't be surprised to see the coaches place the more physical Moore at safety, opening up the corner slots for Hunter, Kapri Cowan, and possibly John Cole (outstanding coverage in the final game of the year). Like you said shs64, if this team gets physical, the expectations are endless.

  8. We lost a lot of seniors this year. However we have a lot of juniors and sophomore's. We will be pretty good next year and i don't see why we can't have the same results as last year. Hopefully a little better then last year.

Expectations should be infinite if this team gets in the weightroom and the younger guys get more fundamental. Somerset just graduated it's all-time leading rusher and 5th all time receptions leader in Scott Newell and Ray Norman. Kenny Hughes at FB next year will be tough to take down, and fully take over Matt Salmons job. They were both excellent in the backfield last year. A.T. Hunter will surprise a lot of people next year. He has speed and moves. A few more pounds, and he'll be nice at RB. Deaton will amass over 2,000 yards in the air again, and I look for his completion % to be better as he's now a full season more comfortable with the new offense. John Cole will be off the charts next year again. This team should be very good offensively, but my areas of concern are the LBs and secondary. Only one corner remains from last years secondary that was at times vulnerable against the pass, and two linebackers were lost. Cam Jones will have to take hold of this defense and be a leader. He was the leading tackler last year, and even more will be expected of him this coming year. John Jones on the DL was a diamond in the rough, and he'll be hard to replace. Re-reading, there are a lot of "were"s "was"s and "will have to"...coming off the region title doesn't hold any guarantees. This team will have to absolutely bust their tails this offseason. If they do the work they need to and perform like they are capable of performing, they'll be a contender.

  9. As far as Class 3A goes i would have to say that the team to beat is Bell Co and Rockcastle Co. Hopefully Johnson Central can step in there and give them some competition but until they prove themselves in the playoffs then Bell and Rock have to be the favorites for Class 3A.

Class 2A's team to beat would have to be Belfry. They have reigned over 2A in the mountains for the past 4 years and i dont see them given that up. I think they return 2 thousand yard rushers and a good oline. I dont really know what their defense returns, maybe a Belfry supporter can feel us in on all the spects.

Class 1A looks to be pretty wide open. Pikeville returns alot of players from last years team from what i hear and i dont know much about how much this past years Somerset team lost. I know that Paintsville lost alot to graduation but always seems to put together a competive team for Class 1A and this year should be no different.

Somerset graduated 13-14 seniors that almost all saw significant playing time, but they return a large portion of their playmakers. If they can fill in the small pieces, they could win the region again. IF they get in the weightroom and do what they need to in the offseason.

  10. This is quite possibly one of the best, most poignant, and funniest statements ever uttered on BGP.

And, as a neutral observer, they are quite entertaining, yet frustrating at the same time.

WELL, thanks lol. John has toned it down quite a bit though, I will give him credit. It would be hard for me to decide what to think about the Perkins duo if I were a Pulaski fan. Ty has ultimately decided the outcome of the past two years annual games, while PC still had a chance to win last year, but also at the same time, where would the Maroons be now without them? John was averaging around 30 ppg coming into the Patch on Thursday, and Ty brings size/speed to the backcourt, so idk....I don't think a PCHS fan would trade a slew of victories for one over Somerset, so I'd probably keep 'em. :thumb:

  11. No Schneider will take over at Somerset and turn that program around and help it win more.

NCC people don't take jokes too kindly, I've noticed that. However, thank you for displaying your arrogance and ignorance (Somerset was 12-2 this year, and 11th all-time in wins in the state of KY.), just makes me appreciate people where I'm from all the more.

  12. It looked to me like he elbowed Deaton in the back of the head, and then when he realized that there was no foul called on the play, and while Deaton was laying motionless on the floor he decided to take some anger out on a former teammate and dive on him. I am also tired of watching these two play, particularly the younger one! The referees almost seemed scared to call anything on either one of the Perkins brothers. I look foward to playing them again come february!

While I ultimately don't believe Pulaski would've won the game, it's just a shame that one of their leaders wasn't able to be on the floor once again in the closing minutes. It's very damaging to a team's rhythm when a guard has been in the lineup the whole game, and suddenly has to sit, especially for things like this. I think the refs were hesitant to call the foul w/ Deaton because it could've been argued either way, even though we clearly saw Perkins' intentions from the Somerset side. He was going for the ball, and decided to get a little extra shot in, and that comes with the nature of the game in some players, but the refs did call the obvious intentional foul w/ Perkins and John Cole. I'm not tired of watching them play, although I'm sure Pulaski fans are, but these two bring ignorant excitement to the game, and that makes winning for us all the more sweet.
