  1. Agree, also they should have beat Russell. They came out very flat, and its hard to come back 16 when the refs are againest you and Boone shooting poorly in that tournament.

I disagree with you.I saw all four games that Boone played and the only game they appeared to come out flat in was the first game against West Carter(25-25 at the half).I believe Russell was up by 20 plus in the third before exhibiting the so called "Russell Relax".The outcome of the game was never really in doubt after Russell jumped out 9-0.Boone does have a nice team and I'm sure they will fare well the rest of the year.

  2. I agree AC, the one constant about Raceland is their defense. They played their hearts out an deserved this win. Fairview's kids also played hard. Imo Fairview was not in as good physical condition as Raceland's were and that certainly showed in the 2nd half. Fairview's players were gasping for air and were obviously very tired. Barker was the only one that it looked like had any "legs" left. By the way, the Barker kid for Fairview is one heck of a basketball player, he is talented and plays all out 100% of the time. I do not mean the (out of shape) comment as a cut on the Eagles at all, Just my observations.

Good summary old Rambler-However I believe that Fairview is in good shape but the physical style of Raceland took a lot out of them.Raceland basketball never gets the respect they deserve. They are much better than their individual parts and will be a factor in the region.

  3. Does anyone know what teams are in the Raceland INV , Plus have a schedule for it .

I don't know the exact schedule but one bracket has Raceland,Fairview,Green County and Richmond Model. The other bracket has Russell,West Carter,Warren East and Boone County.I think Boone County and Russell are both 5-0

Any information on the non- 16th region teams would be appreciated.

  4. Give Barker all of the credit in the world. He may be the best shooter in the region. So why sag off him and give him open looks from the three point line?

There are several good shooters in the region and he is one of them.I really don't think Russell did anything different in this game than the others.Their defensive philosophy is to use their"length" to cut off the passing lanes. If you notice they rarely trap out of their 1-3-1 even when the dribble has been picked up.I realize some may be disappointed in Russell but thay are still 5-0 which is a significant improvement over previous Decembers.

  5. Too much Vanhoose especially the second half.I remember Russell hitting one shot outside the paint in the second half as they only hit one three for the game.IMO they completetely "overlooked/underestimated" Fairview.Despite being down early by 10(14-4) the Eagles never quit. This is a testament both to them and their coach Rex Cooksey. The Eagles should get better as the year progresses as they have only one player(Barker) back from last year that possesses "real" varsity experience.

  6. The Rock Hill game set up unrealistic expectations.Rock Hill got thumped in their second game of the year by Ironton St. Joe 78-59.This is the same Ironton St. Joe team that Fairview has thumped twice a year for the past three years. In fact it got so bad that St. Joe decided to"drop" Fairview from their schedule for 2006-07.My point being that the first game was against a very poor team that played little defense and Tomcat Nation may have read too much into the final score.

  7. I just knew after I posted that, somebody would take it beyond what I intended.

I’m not suggesting that 15th Region officials will do anything improper, just that the Tomcats will not have the advantages they enjoy when playing at home. :thumb:

On paper, Ashland should have no problem with Lewis County, Belfry and Magoffin County bumping their season record to 4-3 following the inevitable spanking at Mason County. But with three games in three days, the Cats can't afford to have an off night or teams like Magoffin and Belfry could make it a long evening for them.

Don't be so sure on Belfry.I watched Belfry earlier this year and Case will be a very difficult matchup for Ashland.

  8. How many weeks, months, years are we gonna have to listen to the 'warning' jokes, if you can call them that...Is that all the material you guys have these days? Im always up for a little humor, but this one is getting a little worn out.

Well you probably just guaranteed that it will last a little longer.

  9. I think that scoring 83 points and shooting 62% from the field, for a team that has only had all its players 3 weeks qualifies as a hot start. It does for me atleast, and thats really all that matters. ;)

You are correct on the 83 points but according to the Daily Independent Ashland shot 54.5%(36/66) from the field. However the point you were making is well understood.I expect Ironton to exert a great deal of pressure on the guards. This game could be a track meet as Ironton will want to push the ball as much as Ashland.

Think about this:Ashland only avg. 55 pts. per game last year.Friday they scored 53 without even including the scoring totals from their two best players(McDavid 16,Thomas 13).
