  1. Amazing! Prior to this post, only one out of six posts are actually about the game.

This game is a key match-up for in the District. If X can pull it off and Male goes on to beat Manual it sets up a three way tie for first place. If X losses than it's up to Male and Manual to take the season title and the number one seed going in to the district tourney.

With this in mind, if St. X is smart, they will pitch their Co-number one pitcher to-night against the Bulldogs, Ryan Mosby. I am sure the Bulldogs will recipricate with their number one pitcher. Because of this, I have to agree with the one of six, that it will be a low scoring affair, probably won by one or two runs either way.

  2. Based on the score from the Manual game yesterday this national ranking will be short lived.

If all you base your opinion on is the score; than you're right.

But most National Polls, especially one as well respected as Baseball America, look at the body of work; not on one isolated game.

This game was a fluke ... a bump in the road. St. X had an off night and Manual was playing over their heads this night. All aided by a bad call at the plate in the fifth inning, that allowed the flood gates to open. This is further evidenced by the fact that Wednesday night J-town beat Manual 6-5 while St. X beat DeSales 4-1. Then Thursday night St. X shutout J-town 5-0.

IMVHO if these two teams played ten (10) games St. X would win 9 of 10.

  3. The Manual game can make the district tournament challenging without a doubt. The trap might be to “not think Manual was for real.” Three of Manual’s losses were one run losses to quality teams, including E-town and Henderson. The loss to Providence (IN) on Monday has to be looked at closely as well. In talking to some people at the game, Manual threw their number 5 or 6 pitcher. A key inning involved a call by the umpire who admitted that “he didn’t see the play.” Providence also evidently threw a quality left-hander who had a very good change-up and curve ball. Doerring, too, is developing as a pitcher with the ability to throw in the mid 80’s with three pitches he can throw for strikes. Manual baseball people were happy that the St. X game may have been the best defensive game that Manual has played all year. Sometimes the Manual supporters would say that errors also played into their losses. The 7th region has tough teams in it that can make for difficult one game match-ups, but the loss to Manual could make it even more challenging to get out of the district and into the regional tournament.

    This is total bunk:

    1. He would have had to be in the bathroom, not to have seen the play.

    2. If this is the true story; why didn't he ask for help from the field ump.

    3. He did NOT throw the head coach out of the game. If he knew the rule and he knew he made the right call then he would have had no problem winning the protest that would have happened had he thrown the head coach out.

The Umpire was wrong. He knew he was wrong. He wouldn't over turn the call. He wouldn't ask for help. That's why he didn't throw the head coach out of the game. The head coach was justified in his protest. But trust me I have seen coaches ejected for far less than what I saw this night.

  4. Henry Co. has a nice field.

I would agree. They do have a nice field.

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the Henry Co. field is when I saw it last year. It was the first time I had ever been on the campus.

I have only one complaint, it was an early season game, the field sits on top of the hill behind the school, the temperature was only about 40 degrees and the wind never stopped blowing. It was COLD! and NO Hot Chocolate!

  7. Not a lot of love? That's the understatement of the year......

So Louisville has 6 teams in the top 15 in the state and Lexington has 5 of the top 15? Shows you what preseason polls are worth......

Glad to see WKY baseball get some love though, but they still have to prove it on the diamond. :thumb:

As does every team in the history of the game!

  8. I can tell you from experience that at 21 act and 3.5 gpa will allow a college coach who has interest in you to get a combination of academic and athletic money. The higher both are the more money. Remember that in the lower divisions (NCAA II and NAIA) that baseball scholarships are limited. Very rare for a player to ever get a full baseball scholarship. Dual sources is how they sweeten the pot from what is a partial baseball scholarship.

In the NCAA, there are only 11.7 Athletic Scholarships available for baseball at the to D-I and D-II Levels. All D-III schools have No Athletic Scholarships. (NAIA schools are excluded, they are not governed by the NCAA.)

On a 33-36 man roster 11.7 scholarships is not enough to go around. The only guys that usually get full rides are pitchers. Unfortunately, "Duel Source" is the only way for all baseball coaches to get good players.

  9. Okay, we claim to know Baseball but let's see. Just answer the questions, to the best of your ability.

    1) Batters Box width - 3'-6" · 4' · 4'-6"

    2) Catchers Box width - 41" · 42" · 43"

    3) Homeplate width - 17" · 18 · 19"

    4) Pitchers Plate width - 4" · 5" · 6"

    5) Pitchers Plate length - 22" · 24" · 26"

    6) Distance from Homeplate, to Pitching Plate - 60' · 60'-6" · 61'

    7) Is "Black" part of Homeplate - Yes · No

    8) Pitchers Circle diameter - 18' · 19' · 20'

  10. It wasn't that long ago that Trinity had 1,000 guys and they were still beating up on most of the schools you had listed. If it was just about numbers, why wouldn't schools like Dunbar and Henderson be bigger players year in, year out? Afterall, Dunbar has 40% more boys than Manual and 56% more than Male. While interesting to think about, it's certainly not all about the numbers.

It's the feeder system. When you have kids start learning the game in the second grade - IT'S A HUGH ADVANTAGE! Even the not so talented athletes at least know the game well enough to be affective on the field.

  11. I heard Paul Rogers give a teaser this morning driving in to the office that, "a new head coach had been named at PRP, more when we return". Then between the car and my office I missed who it was. Did anyone hear this and catch who PRP named as their new head coach?

  12. So here's what I've learned ...

The AP in Louisville didn't even get the nomination forms out until .... oh, last week. My sources are telling me that the All-State teams and Mr. Football won't be released until over a month after the state finals.

Your sources were incorrect. It was released Christmas Eve Day in the CJ.

  13. Hold on....should everyone expect Central to be back every year. Maybe they will...but building a program is much more than one season.

Granted, they are now headed in the right direction, but to repeat and play high quality football year in and year out takes a lot of commitment top to bottom.

    We will see soon enough.

Read the article. They've been building to this for a lot more than one year. Back in the day they were a force to be dealt with. They're not a flash in the pan by any stretch of the imagination.

  14. Next year the State Finals are still going to be in Louisville. After that point PJCS May not be available because of scheduling problems with the Big East. So until we hear back from the big East and UL it is too early to worry about moving the games. But Right now the only other possible Stadium and surface would be Western Kentucky. With the expansion that is currently underway the stadium will be a great fit for the event but it may be a little far for some to travel. What other options do you suggest ?

    What about Georgetown College?

That's were the Cincinnati Bengal's do their Spring Training? Isn't it field Turf?

  15. BTW-Stein was named District player of the year at the state level. I guess that he got his just desserts. Ironically, the voting process for all-district and disrict player of the year is the same(same coaches). Rumored that Seneca may not have voted at the state level.

    Were did you see that?

  16. I have suggested PB on other posts regarding locaton of the championship games. I have been to numerous high school games at PB. PB simply attracts football fans. PB would attract more than 10% casual fans. Cincinnati supports high school football. Besides, northern Kentucky has the rooms, eateries and attractions, (LN's Woodford sipp'n on the lawn) - and PB has the tailgating areas. Let's face it, it will be years and years before Cincinnati gets a pro football playoff contest! If UK can come to Cincinnati to play basketball why can't Kentucky HS football come to PB for championship action? I'm tell'n ya - the crowds would be HUGE! HUGE!

I agree Paul Brown Stadium is one of the best venues to watch a football game. But Kentucky would become the National Laughing Stock of High School Football. Who in their right mind would agree to play the KENTUCKY State Football Championship game in Ohio. Seriously, think about it?

  17. I thought Rick was from New Orleans. Brother Martin High (or something like that). Where is LSURock when you need him?

It looks like it's both. Born in FLA, went to High School in LA.

I thought I remembered Rick telling me he played baseball in High School in New Orleans, LA.

So the story goes, he player catcher and was one of those guys that could easily throw you out stealing second base without standing up. It's no wonder he's got such bad knees.
