Newport will be in the mix again. They are going to be a lot stronger in the weight room this year with Coach Schlarman's offseason workouts. Just looking for some guys to step it up on offense. Need people around Wilfong and Hesch.

Newport has to be one of the great mysteries in NKY. Lots of talent but they seem to continue to underachieve.

Newport set 16 individual school records and 4 school records. Good year for the Wildcats.

Prolly should have. But shoulda, woulda, coulda.

You're exactly right. Just Russell had that extra inch that night to block the extra point. But overall I believe we have a lot to look forward to next year in NKY.

I wasn't too disappointed in this season's outcome.

I was def. not disappointed. I just wasn't satisfied. I think Newport should have won AA.

Hesch and Wolfinbarger of Newport field the ball well and when they get on base they can be moved around and score a lot of runs.

James Thomas of Newport set the recieving yards in a season and touchdown receptions. Also I believe Hesch took over in the Catagory of most touchdown passes in a career and most yards in a career at Newport and I believe he set a school record for passing yards in a game.

Tell me some broken or tied records at your school or in the state.

Newport has 9 of 11 coming back on D.

Not disappointing but not too satisfying but a lot of good to look forward to.

Hesch for one more year.

I've seen more than a few people post teams other than the champ in each class at #1...How can you do that?? The teams that won did what they had to do to win their respective titles so #1 in each class should be without debate...

 

How can you possibly be rated higher than the champion??

 

Now, if you think the Newport/Russell or X/Trinity or whatever game that was played down the playoff road could have gone either way, then rate yourself as #2 but you lost the game so how can you be equal?? Certainly X has a little more argument than Newport because they beat Trinity head to head earlier in the year but Newport lost and on their home field...

 

Here's an example that is very painful to Russell fans...In 2002 against Breathitt we lost by 1 to them in overtime on their field in the state semi's...The next week they went on and BLASTED Corbin 52-0 for the championship...That made that defeat hurt even more...We think we could/should have won against Breathitt & gone on to win the title...So, even though I feel we were as good as Breathitt, they beat us head to head so they are #1...I would certainly rate us ahead of Corbin that year at #2...There are no ties in football...

Well, obviously Russell takes the one spot. I was just trying to make a point that Newport and Russell were just very close.

Mercer County only lost to Newport[42-35] and had 1 td called back and Russell at Russell [41-26].

Mercer lost to the public school from Newport. The catholic school from Newport won the 1A State Championships. I think you got them mixed up.

J.J. Hesch of Newport, Quarterback, almost 2,500 yards passing, 28 TD's, 500 yards rushing and 5 TD's.

There are too many variables to say, for example:

Newport had the best record during the season, NCC is the only one to go to the finals.

Really, I just don't think you can declare anyone the champ. Teams have different schedules and everything else.

Wow, you guys are the best. You are all class acts and very good football players. You helped creat a lot of buzz around the town. You helped create a Newport High School with school spirit. It was never like that before this year for a long time. Good luck to you seniors. You will be missed so much by the community, the underclassman, the coaches, and Newport High School. Good luck in the rest of your life.

That whole play was unbelievable. Newport must have had confidence in their offense to throw it deep on 3rd and 14.

Will NCC come back and play at Newport or will they continue to play at Holmes?

Highlands ran the ball all over Cov Cath whose defense is definatly better. I think we will manage to run down the middle of the 160 pound LB's of lex cath, and if you think you can cover guidugli you may need 3 people and a step ladder...
