Who cares if the offense is predictable? If it's not broken, don't fix it. We outgained them on offense by about double their yards, and our offense outscored theirs (based on drives, not by luck of recovering a ball within the 5 twice) 18-7. Honestly, the punt that bounced off of Daley was just horrible luck for us and GREAT luck for them. The odds of that happening again are slim to none. Then also Kramer's fumbled punt return was a result of spreading him out too thin and trying to make him do too much. Kramer let a few balls go that he shouldn't have. When he tried to compensate for it, by catching the one he should have let go, he made a mistake. My main point is that their punt team really scored 2 TD's for them, not their offense...

Dayton 13

Mercer has more boys than Newport has students all together. Something is wrong there. Newport and Mercer will be a great game this year on the turf at Newport Stadium.
-
Wow, Newport trails a good NC team 7-0 at the half and loses 20-0 and you guys think Dayton will knock them off. Wow. Same old game. Newport wins.

Which student section do you think is the most involved in games and shows the most spirit?
I have to say last night there was some interesting body paint over in the Highlands student section.

On September 1st, Newport plays Dayton at Newport Stadium.

After seeing the Highlands/Male game last night, I have to say Beaumont for Male is one of the top. Also Conner for Highlands had some great returns on kickoff for starting as a sophmore. Vicars for NCC should be another good one this year... any other ideas?

Has anyone from NKY ever got that award? Who votes on this?

NHSBIGDADDY, you know Newport never does good in the scrimmages, they didn't even score in their scrimmages last year but look how many points they put up. You know every year they just get work in. They never fair good in them for some reason.

Here's where your info gets mixed up.
That field is not NEwport High School's field.
That is why the AD will have nothing to do with what gets charged and so on.
That field belongs to the City of Newport. Not Newport High School, the AD can want to raise the rent for NCC and take over whatever, but it's not up to him in the slightest.
The field does belong to Newport Independent Schools. The AD will have nothing to do with what NC is charged. That will be up to the Board of Education of Newport Schools. Last, Newport Schools sent a message to NCC and asked them what they thought would be a fair price. If anyone would like to argue with this they can send me a private message. Believe me, I know what I am talking about.

What is going to be done about the corners of the endzone that were on the concrete track? IMO that was very dangerous for the Wide Recievers and DB's who had to run toward these concrete corners!
It will be fixed and done right. The goal posts are out and the field will not go on to the track now.

Jay Draper is the likely quarterback for Highlands, but Clay Cecil is another option. Newport's quarterback, J.J. Hesch, will return for his senior season and third season as starting quarterback.

I thought Newport was in the finals twice in 36 and 54???? I'm not sure on this.
-
Does the Wildcats have a Freshman team??
No, they have eighth graders playing for J.V.

The O-Line will be anchored down by Senior Kyle Southwood. Everyone else will be new to the O-Line. Expect the Cats to be there late November and early December.

I thought that Newport Stadium was in the 100 year flood plain. I don't think that field turf could withstand a flood. I guess the City of Newport has looked in to this.
Too bad the city doesn't own the field. Newport Independent Schools looked into it.

Did anyone else think that the block that gave NC the lead with less than a minute a no doubt charge?
It was obviously a charge. Newport doesn't get any calls except for in football. And the first three fouls were on James Thomas, all by the same ref. It seemed like it killed him to call a foul on NC.

Newport is coming off two big wins over good 10th region teams. Looking for some revenge on the Beechies tonight.
-
Holmes won 60-55 last year.
-
Newport needs to develop their young line and find a couple recievers for Hesch to throw to and they will be right there again. Look for Kyle Southwood who played center last year to be a big factor in the Wildcats year. He needs to get the new guys on the O-line in gear for the Cats to make a run.

Mercer County
I agree.

I'd like to see an all Newport final.

Newport gets the home court. Who is the favorite and who could surprise somebody?
