How bout those steps down into Cordia's gym? Your lucky not to have a player injured before you even get in the place!!
We had to walk down those on a cold, slippery January night!!!!!!
-
I would have to say Cordia and Feds Creek. At Cordia the floor broke out in a "sweat" and it was like playing ice hockey. At Feds Creek, not enough room to pass the ball over your head from out of bounds, and the balcony was a mess. But like one poster said, they don't make them like that anymore!!!!

Ugly game!!!

I'd say Paintsville, but if they really threw their trophies away after they lost the game the other night, they wouldn't even be playing in Knott Co. They dismissed a player over there for not shaking hands after a loss. Did they really throw their trophies away or is that a rumor?
Who said that? I was not aware of that!!!

I voted for the guard.
If a post player can hit the 12 foot jumper than it is much harder to guard him with a "same-size" player because of the chance to take him to the basket. If you try to guard the jumper with "smaller" quickness I would tell that post player to immediately post up. Yuo may say that it is easy to guard a big man in the high post area. That may be true for some, but for those who like to screen it is easier for them to get open with various "pick and rolls."
You do not have to have great passing skills in the post to find the open man. If you get double teamed from the passers man, kick it back out and repost while your defender is relaxing (usually standing up) and get the ball deeper in the post. If the double team comes from the opposite side, take one dribble away from the double team and look opposite and the skip pass is open for the opposite wing player/post player.
If you have a smart post player with a variety of post moves it is very easy for them to get to the free throw line and thus harder to shut down, unless of course they are horrible at free throws. IMO there is a lot more physical contact in the post than anywhere else.

I have just been reading posts for the last year and have seen How people say someone gets to play because of who his daddy is or because his dad sponsered the hoops classic. Do you think BMR plays kids to get their dads to donate or because he thinks they can play?
I would say that he plays them because they can play!

I have seen posts complaining about playing time and whining about someone elses child getting to play, because their parents might make more money and I really think these people should spend more time worrying about their child's G.P.A. than their P.T.!!!!!!!!!!! NO MATTER how you play ball you still have to make the grades!!!! Every College looks at grades and act/sat scores. Colleges even have minimum requirements. So if your children are not passing their classes, they are only going to community or tech college!!! If you read the paper, you might know that KY's talent is down!!! So get over sports and make your children do their homework and show some respect to their teachers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What would you be referring to? How does this relate to parents from Paintsville? Just asking.

I think Paintsville has pretty much vested all their effort into this group of sophmores. They don't play in a middle school conference nor do they have a freshmen schedule. I guess it's a numbers thing. IMO if Coach Runyon is planning on riding out with this group he should give his successor a year with them... If not the next guy will be in trouble. Having success in your first year will get you established. Don't know anything about JC's JV/freshmen situation. I do know they had a nice middle school team last year.
Paintsville has a Freshman team, but they have only played three games due to cancellations and some freshman who play JV. They have wins over Pikeville and Magoffin County and a loss to Sheldon Clark!
Just becasue their not in a conference in middle school doesn't mean anything. They still play Inez, Magoffin County, Warfield, Blaine, Mullins, Virgie, Dorton, and others.

As of last night Paintsville holds a one game lead in the all-time series (47-46)!

It was also said that Landon Slone from Paintsville went over the 1,000 point mark for his career. Congratulations Landon!!!!!!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

GREAT ATMOSPHERE!!!!!!!!!

Some serious allegations and character attacks in that post.
He is just upset, let him cool off for a little while and he may realize his mistakes in his posts.

I think this game could become ugly very fast. Nobody can play at Paintsville and win. You have to beat not only the Tigers but the officials also!!Seems like the Tigers have the officials in their hip pockets at that school.I watched the Cardinals play there a while back and the Tigers were allowed to push, shove, and do what ever they wanted to do.I will say that SC played their worst game of the season. They could not get any shots to drop. The fans at Paintsville are rude and very disrespectful.Heck we even had Paintsville fans sitting on the visitors side of the gym making comments. The fans that sit on the stage by the visitors bench are the most unsportsman like fans of all!! They will talk directly to players and coaches during the game. The police will escort fans from the opposing team out of the gym for getting loud and making comments but, will let the Paintsville faithful threaten to beat people without a second thought.I hope JC wins!!!!
So which one was it? The refs or they couldn't get their shots to drop?
-
Depends on which Paintsville team shows up!!!
-
Looks like the Tigers showed up tonight. Anyone have any stats on this one? Good win Tigers! :thumb:
They showed up for about two quarters. They were up about 20 and let Knott County back into the game. They need to learn to put people away when they can. Hopefully they will play great the whole game against Hazard!!

I talked to a friend that was at the game and he knows alot about basketball, says Paintsville defence was so so and that Harlan didn't slow the game down as much as people are saying. Alot of times they threw the ball away after only one or two passes. They had 17 turnovers and put up forty some shots. He said that Harlan didn't let Paintsville have alot of layups and that was the different in the game. He said that they made Paintsville shoot jumpers. Anyone at the game see it different?
I know that Harlan had at least 10 offensive rebounds, can't give up that many and win in a low scoring game. You are right about the # of turnovers for Harlan, I believe it was right around 17, but I believe the difference in the game was from the FT line. Harlan was 11-14, Paintsville was 4-6! Can't win when you only shoot 6 free throws. What that says is you aren't getting as many drives to the basket and post entries, you are relying to much on your jump shots!
-
I think Harlan has Paintsville's number. They've made them look awful the last two years. I think they also beat them in the All "A" Classic the year that Paintsville won the state.
Oh well, they still won the one that mattered in 1996!!!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
-
Very boring game!!! No emotion from the Tigers last night, I think they may have overlooked Harlan because of the injury to their best player. I think Harlan may have out rebounded the Tigers, does anyone know for sure?
-
Was that a new team record also BBJ?
j/k
For a half? It probably should be. Just got careless with the ball in the second half!!!
-
I find that hard to believe! Doesn't JR Vanhoose keep the stats for the Tigers? Surely he wouldn't allow this tiny Paintsville team to break one of his teams' records, especially a rebounding record!!
Just telling you what I was told. I think Pugh had 10, Williams had 9 or 10, Grimm had 11, VanHoose and Slone had around 8, and Bundy had 7. BTW records are made to be broken!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
-
How will this game go with Halan's leading scorer out with a bad injury?
-
Paintsville set a new school record tonight with 56 rebounds as a team in the game. That is very impressive!!!!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Final, could have been worse with Paintsville up 20 in the second half. But Paintsville had close to 20 tournovers in the second half!
Paintsville A Little Too Confident?
in KY Boys Basketball (High School)

Confident? You had better be or you will never get anywhere in life.
I hope 26 booked rooms didn't fill all the rooms in Richmond. If they don't have anymore motel rooms than that, the All "A" needs to move. Plus, who would care enough to ask who booked rooms. Sounds like people in certain locations of Floyd County have way to much time on there hands.
