  1. This Scott team's performance is a major shocker. Playing a normal NKy schedule, they have only one victory over a team with a winning record and that is over a down St. Henry with a 9-7 record. After starting the season 2-0, they are 2-13 with their only victories being Bellevue and Brossart. Even though they are in the weak 10th Region, they were pre-season top three and their nosedive season to date raises a lot of eyebrows. Is there spillover from other programs? Is there optimism heading into postseason? Hard to believe injury to one key player can result in so many losses for so much reputed baseball talent.

They have also had a couple of other key players miss games due to other commitments.

  2. I am amazed. This is the KHSAA at it's finest. Considering recruiting rules are directly tied to enrollment, I am not sure how the KHSAA could enforce any recruiting violations. Every single part of bylaw 16 is on the basis of whether or not a kid is enrolled in your school or your feeder school. If this is the case, June is open season for recruiting. If enrollment rules are not in effect then bylaw 16 cannot be in effect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Bylaw 24 covers this. More specifically, Case Bylaw-24-3 Paragraph 3

  3. How would you suggest?

First by playing kids who want to play each week. Sick of hearing kids play because they are seniors or because they are bigger than other players. Play your best 11 on both sides of the ball. Shouldn't matter what grade they are in. i believe 42 & 24 have earned spots along with a few others. Some have played themselves out of positions. Time to make the necessary changes and get to work in district play. NO MORE EXCUSES!!!

  4. Panthers lead late once again taking a 3-1 lead into bottom of the 6th. cru plates 3 runs to take it. Lacorte went the distance for the Cru. Thornsburg was the tough loser for Ludlow. Great game to watch. Good pitching, good defense, good situational bunting. Another tough loss for the Panthers!!!

  5. Newcath was impressive tonight and showed why they are the best team in the region...plain and simple.

Holmes settled for too many jumpers which led to long rebounds and easy points in transition for the Breds, highlighted by a Drew McDonald dunk. Holmes should've attacked more. When they got the ball in the middle of Newcath's zone at the foul line they had success going to the rim or getting an open look (which they weren't knocking down). Newcath tried to guard Holmes m2m and got down 10-5 early. When they switched to the zone, Holmes offense struggled.

Pangallo's 8 straight killed any Holmes momentum. Newcath had an answer at all times whether it be offensively or defensively.

INewcath is so complete at every position. You really have to defend all 5 on the floor at all times.

I will finish with saying that McClendon's T was absolutely Oscar Mayer Bologna. Going for a loose ball, grabs it and tries to throw it back in bounds but loses it. Grabs it and smacks it with his off hand and he gets T'd up? Chappie was quick with it. Unless he cussed, I see no reason for him to get a T for smacking the ball out of frustration.

He yelled the one word no referee will let slip. Everyone sitting court side heard it!

  6. Walter did say "in the region," so, when looking at teams only in the 9th region, who would you rank above them? I don't think the fact they are "top 10" is as much of an endorsement, as it is an indictment of the talent after 7 or 8.

    1.Covington Catholic 100.6

    2.Newport Catholic 97.2

    3.Holmes 95.6

    4.Dixie Heights 83.4

    5.Cooper 77.0

    6.Boone County 76.7

    7.Ryle 76.5

    8.St. Henry 76.2

    9.Conner 71.4

    10.Newport 64.5

    11.Highlands 64.1

    12.Ludlow 61.6

    13.Covington Holy Cross 58.1

    14.Beechwood 55.8

    15.Erlanger Lloyd

So, is this win for the Cru their signature win of the season so far? Or would that be the Conner game?

After the top 4 teams on this list just roll the dice. Cru could beat anyone on here besides the top 4.Highlands is overrated at 11. Truly Ludlow would smack them and not sure that the Crossbacks and Beechies wouldn't get them also. Haven't seen Lloyd but here they are young and inexperienced.

  7. Never said or thought that neither were not D1 players. D1 was put in quotes because 719 made reference as to the bigs being D1 players, most of their plays are set up for big men and I'm pretty sure Coach Dawn knows they are D1 players and they are pretty good. Dont need to hear that one kid is D1, one kid is NAIA or D2, no one cares.

Coopers plan the whole first half was to not let NCC bigs beat them. Main reason why the guards had so many good looks. Once they were forced to go man the ball went inside. Pick your poison with this team. My argument with all of this is when you have the balanced scoring like NCC did last night and you're 11-3 and very easily could be 14-0 against arguably the best schedule in the state. Close losses to Ballard, PRP and Lafayette. Something is working! With this team you rarely see a 25pt performance. Good basketball teams are balanced and this team is very balanced. Like i said, teams have to pick their poison- do you try and stop the bigs and watch the guards beat you or do you stop the guards and let the bigs beat you. I hear the players all get along on and off the court. Comraderie is good and it needs to stay that way to be successful. My answer to Money is this- they utilize their bigs right when needed and utilize their perimeter game right also when needed. I'm not a rocket scientist but thats just my opinion!

  8. Look at the box score, I was at the game the bigs were not open in the first half and they passed the ball outside for the 3, great team play.

Agreed. For the most part in the first half Cooper played zone daring NCC to shoot from the outside. Tanner, Zack, & Grant had wide open looks. When you look at their scoring they had bigs: 10, 10, 9, 4, guards: 10, 8, 5, 2. 33 pts from the bigs, 25 from the guards. Looks like a really balanced lineup if you ask me. Plus I'm really sure Coach Dawn knows what he is doing more so than the people on here complaining about the ball not going inside to the "D1" players. Hope the boys dont read this nonsense. Hey boys, "Great team win last night, now go get another one Friday night at CovCath."

  9. I will preface this by saying personally I do not think NCC's parents are any worse than any other parents at other schools; however, NCC's administration believes the issue has gone far enough that the school needs to address the issue. My understanding is that NCC was scratched by a high number of officials (not sure if it was on the boys side, the girls side, or both) and it was conveyed that the reason given was parent and spectator behavior. Long time NCC administrator Carl Foster took the issue to heart and is pushing hard to improve the schools image in this regard. Mr. Foster is requiring all basketball parents to attend a "Meet the Breds" night and he is using the official scratches as his platform to push for change. Certainly this will not be easy to change the attitudes of adults and/or the culture (assuming there is a culture for this behavior); however, in my opinion Mr. Foster is to be applauded for taking on this task.

Is this an issue that needs to be addressed at all schools?

Has anyone seen any ways to deal with out of control spectators at high school events

mods need to transfer this to the girls basketball thread. This was addressed a few nights ago with girls parents.

  10. I don't think you can overlook GC NCC struggles against the pass and GC passes much better than WV.

Why do people keep saying NCC struggles against the pass? Their pass defense has been pretty good all year. No one they play will throw the ball better than SK or Beechwood. The defense has improved all year. Cooper game they did play bad. Everyone thought Beechwood would throw all over them & they didn't. Plus their D line has been getting a great pass rush which is the key to stopping any teams passing game. Gallatin likes to throw it so we shall see the results.

  11. Mac Franzen was sensational. 181 rushing yards and 153 passing yards out of the 494 total yards of offense the Breds put up. Breds defense with yet again another fantastic performance. Good game plan by Coach Wagner and his defensive coaches. Breds looked focused on the job at hand during pregame warmup. They seem to play with a certain swag this time of year and the coaches do a great job not letting them look ahead.

  12. I am shocked if Sutkamp had 21 tackles in that game. He had some big hits and made the key play of the game getting the hit on the 4th down play in the 4th quarter. But if Sutkamp had 21 tackles, Tallon had 30. I heard his name called much more than Sutkamp's. Sutkamp is really good but that tackles number seems way too high.

Saw game film and stat sheet after game. Sutkamp definitely had his 21 tackles in that game. Safety Brandon Gray was second on the team with 9 tackles followed by linebacker Kobe Tallon with 8. I agree that the Breds need to run #5 a little bit more. He is a tank! Great kid also who deserves all the praise he gets. He will be playing somewhere on Saturdays!!! Shout out to #54 Logan Neff who also played a heck of a game.

  13. Obviously Brossart has a monumental task ahead of them in this game. Hopefully when the new district pairings come out Brossart will be an A school with the likes of Dayton, Bellevue, Ludlow, etc and Beechwood will have moved to AA with NewCath and their other district foes. NCC coaches will be classy in this game and I'm sure hope for the running clock early so they can play their JV and freshman players the majority of the game. Just hope both teams stay healthy and all NCC students, parents and players are classy as they normally are. NCC doesnt like Brossart, Brossart doesnt like NCC but there is a ton of respect between the two schools.

  14. On a side note you can always tell who played for him and who didn't by how they say his name. 99.9% of his former players say Mr. Schneider those who didn't say Coach Schneider. The word Coach doesn't serve justice to the life lessons he worked to teach so many young men. first class man

I disagree KJ. I think if you ask any Coach they will tell you that people calling you Coach rather than Mr. is more of an honor. I had some great coaches over the years and I still refer to them as Coach. I consider Coach as a term that means "mentor, teacher, coach and role model". Just my opinion!
