You all tend to forget that Allen Feldhaus coached at Mason County when Maysville had great teams, Fleming County had great teams, St. Pat had quality teams and this was just in the 39th district. Coach Feldhaus had to win a game to make it to the regional tournament and that game was not considered a free pass. Mason County won many district titles 7 or 8 in the 80's when the competition JUST in this district was very tough. Then Coach Feldhaus led Mason County to it's very first regional title (1981) and then won again in '82, 85, and '87. Coach Feldhaus is a hall of famer, he won with teams that didn't always have division one talent and he is a legend at Mason County.
Very good point. As I have said before, Wells did a great job in a short period of time but Feldhaus did it over several seasons, sometimes getting alot out of not much talent.
-
How about Henry Clay from 83-84 that featured Steve Miller, Jeff Blanton, and Greg Bates? I know they manhandled DeMatha when they had Danny Ferry.
-
Have you been to all 16 regionals?
No I have not to all that many regional tournaments but I have been to several gyms. I guess you could say that I am a little bias but its just one mans opinion.
-
Hands down it would have to be the Fieldhouse. The atmosphere there at regional time is second to none.
-
What about Mark Tucker??
What about Brent "Boogie" Flaugher?

You could be a great coach without winning the big one. Winning the big one is usually based on a little luck and a lot of talent. Luck could be the best boy from the opposing team getting injured .I've known some excellent coaches that never ever made it to the state tournament. Pick the best coach that you think is in college basketball today and see if they win it all. You will be wrong .
It would be an understatement to say that Wells didnt do a great job while at MC but I feel that a great coach is someone who did the job over a long period of time and you are exactly correct in saying that some of the best coaches this state has ever had never won a state title or even coached in Rupp.

He was my traffic instuctor for a speeding ticket I got. How about Gary Turner?
Philip Wood had several really good teams at PC while Turner only had really two good teams and those came back to back in 84 and 85.
-
I actually considered Coach McCane, but when I went back to the Orange Book for stats I didnt see his name mentioned...
What about adding Keith Randolph and having Gary Russo coach?
-
Yes , lets nor forget Nathan Seiter, he was the man and for my money one , if not the best in the 10th. Justin wasnt all that shabby either...LOL!! I DO know who would win the best brother tandem in the 10th. No brainer:D
With all due respect to the Seiters, I think you will get quite a few arguments from the Feldhaus', Myricks, Jacksons, Kelschs, Turners, and Gays.

Talbert Turner at Pendleton County. He also played without the 3-point line and scored over 3,000 points.
-
Mary Custard from Harrison County.
-
Beth Wilkerson at Paris.

I would love to know how a thread which starts out as someone asking about how the 10th region will be this year, turn into another bashing of PC, the "recruiting process of Pat Elliott", and how conveniently a teaching position became available at this time? I have nothing but respect for Brossart and I think they have a great program but the bottom line is the fact that in recent history each program has one regional title apiece and that is what people tend to talk about, not who won the lower Campbell County 5th grade Catholic League title seven years ago. Lets move on.
-
Yes Augusta SHOULD be in the top 10. Hints why they are.
Here's my top 10.
1. Mason Co.
2. Clark Co.
3. Brossart
4. Montgomery Co.
5. Harrison Co.
6. Bourbon Co.
7. Scott
8. Augusta
9. Pendleton Co.
10. Campbell Co.
How can you have Augusta rated ahead of Pendleton? Like I have said before, PC will be down but there is no way that they will finish lower than Augusta.
-
What does PC have other than an overrated Kane Belcher?
Granted, PC will be way down from previous years but I think that overrated is way too harsh of a word to use.
-
Did Pendleton have some players transfer in, because if they didn't and they have to rely on the players from last years JV team, they won't make it above .500.
IMO:Middleton is not better than Pelle from SG, Uebel from Brossart, or Sharp from Scott.
No PC did not have any transfers come in. But like I said earlier they will not be as bad as some people may think. In the 10th this year, after you get past the top 3 or 4, you can throw the rest of the teams in a hat.
IMO, Middleton is better than those three and should probably be rated higher.
-
First, thank you very much for posting it.
Second, I have some real doubts on the player & team rankings.
Russ Middleton is not a top 10 player, especially in front of Uebel from Brossart, Pelle from SG, or Sharp from Scott. What teams does Dumphord, Talbott, and Owens play for?
Pendleton Co is not the 6th best team in the region. Bourbon Co and Scott will beat PC this year.
Who rated these players and teams? They did not do their homework.
I do not know how you cant have Middleton in your top 10. He played very well for the top team in the 10th last year. As for Pendleton, while they wont be as good as last year, they will still be very competitive.
-
I wonder why Pendleton doesnt play them again this year.
-
Am I missing something?
Eifert from Holy Cross but no Jacobs (CCH), Rice (Holmes), Cooper (Brossart), or Belcher (Pendleton) just to name a few.
Nelson from Holmes is above Israel Chambers, Dustin Day, Corey Sorrell, and JD VanHoose?
This list is a JOKE.
I couldnt agree more that this is a joke. Having had the opportunity to see both Belcher and Cooper play several times, how can you have them listed somewhere? I dont care if they are the last players listed.
-
My point is, it doesn't matter who you play against, you have to play the games to win, so why is seeding soo important?? By the way Deming went last year to the 10th region and if you follow the teams they did give Mason County a heck of a ballgame, and then of course Mason County won and beatPC.
Mason beat Clark in the finals.
-
I think Austin Hill of Holmes will go D-1, I'm not sure what you classify as "major" D-1.
Some possibilities with their question marks
Euguene Wade- Shelby County- offense
Jeremy Anderson- Warren Central- ballhandling, perimeter quickness
Thomas Coleman- Jeffersontown- intensity, work ethic
Preston Knowles- GRC- off-court issues
Matt Walls- Scott County- speed? (IMO he's top 5 in the state, but colleges may overlook him)[/QUOte
What off court issues does Knowles have?
-
I am not sure of the year but PRP played Hazard. After some of the worst officiating I have ever seen go against Hazard, nearly everyone in Rupp began rooting for Hazard. Although Hazard lost, it was a great game.
-
I gotta agree. It's kind of like that Elliott kid moving into Pendleton County to play with his AAU buddies, and then being proud of a regional championship.
How can you possibly compare these two situations? It is not even close.

Congrats to an outstanding young man and nothing but the very best!:dancingpa

Being a PC grad, I would have to say that all of those great battles we had with Bracken back in the 80's. It didnt matter which team might have had more talent, it was always close, especially back in 84 when we were region runners-up and only beat them by 2. While the old gym in Brooksville was not my favorite gym, it was hard to beat that place in a district final. It was always packed and hotter than you could ever imagine.
