Will be interesting to see how the extended time off treats him.
-
Three good weeks out of nine and everybody loves him.
And some have complained and criticized everything he’s done for the past 5-7 years so it all evens out....

Joey Votto
Tony Kornheiser
Mike Tirico
Chris Henry
Dave Ramsey
Chad Johnson
Chris Jansen
Cassadee Pope

You can't have a guy ground into a double play most of time with men on base. That is called a rally killer.
He’s had 6 all season. To say he does it most of the time is just blatantly false.
-
Winker had a rough day yesterday and hasn’t been up to expectations this season but the guy is hitting .387 over the last 8 games, so let’s pump the brakes on the ridiculous talk of replacing a 25 year old dude that has done nothing but hit at every level he’s been at.
-
Votto is now up to .253/.347.
Has a 7 game hitting streak going and 5 straight multi-hit games, 3 of which are 3 hit games.
He’s hitting .484 (15/31) during the streak.

100% cool with it.

Given that I've only seen 3 in my life and one in the last 21 years, I'm content with that. Especially if we are pretty consistently in the Elite Eight and Final Four most of that time.
As would be any reasonable/rational fan.

1 Patriots SB
2 Reds WS
2 Kentucky basketball National Titles

Votto 2-2 today and now 7 hits in the 3 game series. I’m sure everyone else is as shocked as I am that this hasn’t been brought up yet.
-
Back to back multi-hit games from Votto. He loves playing the Cubs.

A short term ratings boost wouldn't be worth ruining the franchise forever if it came out the show was helping him.
If this was a deal like in the movie where he's getting the answers and it came out, Jeopardy would be over.
Too big of a risk for them to cheat.
Pretty sure it would also be illegal.

How would you rank the 3?
The Order
The Umbrella Academy
The Society
-
I believe The Order, The Umbrella Academy, Altered Carbon, and Mindhunters all have 2nd seasons in the works.
-
1. Stranger Things
2. Safe
3. Ozark
4. The Five
5. The Haunting Of Hill House
Forgot about Safe. That was really good.
-
What did you think of these 3?
They were entertaining.
A bit hokey, but I enjoyed them.

Over the last several weeks, while I’ve been home recovering from surgery, I’ve been able to watch a ton of Netflix.
Thus far I’ve made it through:
Altered Carbon
The Order
The Society
Travelers
The Umbrella Academy
I’m about halfway through Mindhunters as well.
What’s everyone’s favorite Netflix Original Series?
I’ve been a big fan of Travelers and Altered Carbon and enjoyed the others. And of course there’s Stranger Things.
Really feel like their original stuff is pretty solid and I didn’t think that before these recent weeks.

Reds are now 22-19 since they’re abysmal first 10 days of the season.

I feel the whole “emergency” situations can go both ways. If you have debt and all of a sudden you or your spouse lose your jobs it could definitely make making those payments much more difficult.
Like Randy said, it’s a good discussion regardless of what side of the coin one falls.

What do you mean you don't need credit to get a mortgage?
Paying all cash for everything, again, sounds good on the surface. That's until an unforeseen circumstance (or series of them happens), and the checking and savings disappear and you have nothing. I deal with it weekly. People with the "all cash" mentality that stumble on bad times and can't get a loan to cover them in the time being because they have little to no credit. "I make $100,000 a year!" Well, that's great, but you've never proven you can pay anybody back.
It's not the daily expenses where credit will save you, it's on the things you can't predict. A savings account is great until it's not there.
Just for an example, we’ve had roughly $15k in unforeseen expenses since the start of the year. We’ve been able to easily just cover them in cash because we don’t have monthly payments or owe people money, and have been putting money away for those instances.
I’m not saying debt is horrible or awful or anything of the sort. I’m just saying IMO it’s not a wise decision to take it on if at all possible.
-
And how long, on average, would it take a person to build that kind of cushion?
About 5 months for us. We’re currently in the process of building exactly that sort of fund.
-
If you pay cash for everything, you’re also saving less cash. In addition, the biggest chunk of your savings should be going towards retirement. If you’re spending big chunks on large purchases (such as cars, big home repairs, appliances) you’re limiting the amount you earn in interest, and thus the amount you are saving over time. Again, I understand borrowing too much is a bad thing. But sometimes, borrowing is the smart thing to do as it actually allows you to hold on to and earn more off the money you already have.
Again, I commend you for being able to live debt free. It is truly an impressive accomplishment. But I think you are missing out on a lot of opportunities that could be beneficial to you in the long run.
How am I saving less? That $500 in car payments is instead an extra $500 a month I can invest in my retirement accounts.
-
Maybe in a perfect world. If you never borrow money, you don't have the credit to do it when you really need to. It's naïve to think you'd NEVER need to borrow money.
Again we’ll just have to agree to disagree. Outside of a mortgage, which you don’t need credit to get, what could I possibly ever have to borrow money for?
