  1. UK has been beaten by coaches who know how to change their defense to win ballgames. Gillispe's stuborn headedness on playing half court man to man is part of the problem. Connecting on 14 three pointers is evidence eneough that it ain't working! I would like to see UK press more and keep Patterson and Stevenson in the paint more on D...not 15-18' from the basket on D. I am partial to defense creating the offense opportunities and keeping the opponents offense off guard on what to expect game after game.

  2. Wasn't the Fugate one of the kids who quit last season who at the time was playing the point? Kids demanding a certain position or they will not play sounds interesting....I personally prefer those kids who have the heart and desire to want to play for the love of the game versus those that only want what they think is best for them. A good coach IMO plays to win by maximizing the talent pool within the team that he/she may have while maintaining the proper chemistry among the players.

  3. :thumb:Good observation, I thought the same thing. After he went out Cordia was helpless and Hazard jumped onto the oppurtunity and by the time Hurt got back into the game it was already too late for the 14th Region Player of the Year. Hated to see him go out when it was just in reach and seemed to be turning into a good game. Whitetaker is tough and knocked down big shot to match Cordia's run but Campbell seemed to score and give a boost right when Hazard needed it most. Congrats to Hazard.

Hazard played like a well oiled machine. KUDOS to Cordia as they gave it their all. Great season for such a small school. Good luck to Hazard!

  4. I couldn't have said it better myself, Professor. The Owls have nothing to be ashamed of. Coach Noble, Coach Hensley and Coach Davidson along with the boys have worked hard this year, having many ups and downs and come along way. Even though I wish this game would have turned out different, I am extremely proud of the boys. They gave it their all and almost had an upset. Again, Congratulations to all the Owls staff and players and thanks for a great season. I am already looking forward to next year.

I agree that the Owls have made much overall improvements under coach Noble and his staff and the future does look more promising but the facts at the end of the season IMO do not justify a "great season". When "great" becomes winning 5 games a year and losing 21, ranking 4th in the seeded district and losing the 1st game in post season play there are some issues. I think the more operative word would have been an "impressive" final game IMO.

  5. IMO there are three prongs of responsibility and it starts at the top w/ the (1)KHSAA...they should and do have a tremendous amount of control over the these kinds of situations. The board of control should keep a tight lid on those in position within the KHSAA. In any organization there is an element of dishonsety, lack of integrity, and rules and consequences for inappropriate behavior. Unfortunelty, with a name like Clay County I am not for sure if they would get the same treatment say as a non-name school out there who does the same. (2)The assigning secretary position must be responsible to the board of control IMO...and KHSAA. If you don't believe me come post season ask others down the road of their perception of the regions in the mountains! There has always been a lot of shinnaganahans of the sort in each region in the mountains come post season and that is sad. Lastly, the (3)coach and school. He/she is responsible first and foremost to the school and school system who hires. The schools decisions are a lot of times dependent on past success, community perception, and relationships with the administration and school system as a whole.

  6. I was impressed w/ Lee. Hazard did not play their best and was primed for an upset. Good job on the effort that the Bobcats put forth. I was glad to see thes two schools play tonight...a lot of games got cancelled which is going to make the rest of the tournament tough for who ever comes out.

  7. Coaches come and they go....when you talk about the love of the game and the countless hours a coach dedicates to his team it is apparant that either

    1. administrators are not equal to work with/for from a coaching perspective while some are more athletic minded and understand all factors while others it pains to be around any sport and who want to maintain total control within the school or 2. sometimes apparant better opportunities come around that make the move from one job easier than staying. Politics( that is what we call things that don't go the way we think it should) is directly involved in every school in the state which often adds another element to the whole coaching senerio...being able to work with the administrators within a school district.

    Coaching is a tough job!

  8. IMO, all I am hearing is excuses as to the lack of success at UK. I do not understand why so many teams are shoting the ball so well against UK? How many 1/2 and full court defensive changes have you see thus far this year?? With the lack of talent it is the coaches job to minimize a teams weakness and extinuate upon its strengths while making them play together. These guys(D1 players) can't guard a good church league team.

  9. Coach Noble is going through similar coaching situations that those numerous coaches before him went through. He will do fine and IMO he will build a competitive program in the future. The "faithful" know what he and a lot of other coaches in the 14th go through in the course of a season because of their knowledge of the competitive nature of the sport and variables affecting the success of the team(s).

  10. Owsley's season didn't really start until Smith returned, and NO, we're not showing him too much love....just being truthful. He makes a HUGE difference. It took about two games for him to get back into the groove, but he's really come around the last 4 games. He makes it much more difficult to press the Owls, and now defenses cannot double team Neeley as much. Plus, he is a great rebounder, averaging about 10 per game, to go along with his 19 ppg average. He has good drives to the basket, and as a result gives Neeley much better looks at threes when he drives and kicks. Owsley is just not the same team now. No dreaming...just reality.

I guarentee those kids at Owsley feel as if right now they can beat anyone on a given night and to me that would put them in the middle of the pack of in my opinion is a "down" region that does not have one or two dominant teams as what has been present in the past.

  11. Both he allaclassic.org website AND the 14th Region program lists the SHERMAN NEACE ATHLETIC CENTER as the site of the 14th region semifinals and finals. This is at the old M.C. Napier gym in Hazard.

There are some around who contine to insist that the games will be played at the Whitaker Athletic Center at Delcie Combs.

There is a recent post on this forum that the games will be played at Knott Central.

DOES ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE WHERE THE GAMES WILL BE PLAYED? It would be pretty simple for the allaclassic website to update the location shown IF it has been changed.

I agree. If I am not an avid 14th region fan and want to come an see a game it has been extremely difficult to see actual brackets and where a team actually plays. Thanks to this forum

  12. Who will win this big time game?

    Observations:

    1. Third game this week for Lee only second for the owls.

    2. Pending Owls stay out of foul trouble they win. If anyone gets into foul trouble Lee will be the favorite

    3. Momentum is swinging in the favor of the owls

    4. These boys would have been very young in the late 90's so I'm wondering how much they remember about all of the excitement that winning the 14th region All A brings? They might not know or remember but the community will.

    5. There is no pressure on these kids..expectations have been subpar all year and they are unconsciousness to those expectations which will benefit the owls.

    6. In earlier games vs. lee the owls youthfullness will not impact performance(losses by 13 and 19).

    7. Lee is position to positon bigger and probably more athletic...they lack the true go to person. when they need a basket...Owlsey has Smith and Neeley with nerves of steel to take and make the game winner.

    8. Two weeks into the his season Smith has brought to this team the senior leadership that they have lacked throughout the year.

    9. Beating a team for the third time in a season is tough...regardless if you've been beat by double digits both times.

    Prediction= Owsley 60, lee 55
