  1. I never got to watch Mike Fessler play (he was in '62), but he put up 50 points against Dixie Heights and had the highest scoring average for an individual season with 25.4. It's difficult to leave a guy like that off the list.

Other than that, I'd take Corey Grace ('97?). He was a beast and ended up playing for Thomas More. He went down to Kentucky to attempt to walk-on, but they told him that there were no more spots on the roster. Somebody by the name of Saul Smith took the last one.

It's difficult to leave Andy & Kevin Listerman off the list, but I think there are much more talented players. I'd probably take Nestheide ('04) & Purdon ('01)over them, but that's just my opinion.

Also, Dan Tieman deserves a spot. Anybody who plays behind the Big O has a legit reason for riding the pine. :D

So that leaves me with this:

    Dick Maile

    Roger Tieman

    Randy Noll

    Joe Voskuhl

    Joe Fritz

    Corey Grace

    Matt Nestheide

    Steve Purdon

    Dan Tieman

    Andy Listerman

How can you leave Bill Topmiller off completely. He started as a sophmore with Randy Noll and Voskuhl. Probably the best all around athlete from CCHS.

  2. Its not mandatory that coaches try and help out their players succeed and make it to the next level by helping in the recruiting process, but it is something that can be helpful. I know my basektball coach helped me send out tapes and got my name out. I didnt go D1, but i never expected too. I dont think Lorenz expects to go to an Ohio State either, but some help from the coach would go along way. My coach did everything he could, and he helped me find a perfect fit. Did he have to, No. But being the coach, wouldnt you want your players to make it on to the next level? I know i would, and that my coach did as well. For that i am very grateful to him.

  3. I believe if we really want to get to the bottom of this we need to start at the top. I am an objective bystander from another district but happen to know all the players in this ordeal. The idea of a district wide athletic director is a very good approach with good future ramifications. The superintendent is very much involved in this forward thinking. However, the current school board cannot seem to get on the same page. If you ever look at their minutes you will see many 3-2 votes. The normal protocol is to get consensus and try to get everyone to agree. However, some of these same board members have petty differences and still side with some of the old guard. These people should not run for the board unless they can be objective on all matters. What they need to worry about is what is best for the kids and nothing else.

The current administration at the High School is part of the problem. They along with some of these same board members decided they needed an on site AD. Joe Roberts was not having any trouble handling the operation. However, to appease some of the old guard, principal, and board members a position was created for another older guard to return. Shouldn't the board be trying to cut expenses rather than add to them?

These problems are going to continue until the dead wait is cleaned out or leaves. Joe Roberts is a great young man who I respect greatly. Even though money could be a factor in his resignation, I know for a fact that he would have never left if these petty politics did not exist.

I implore the superintendent to work toward some amiable solution before CCHS's reputation and tradition is tarnished beyond repair.

  4. Buddy Biggs has done a great job with the cats. He lost 3 starters who went onto to play college basketball and 6 seniors all together. These guys accounted for over 60 percent of their offense and a huge bit of their leadership. Biggs has done an amazing job to replace these players and has had an excellent season because of it.

  5. Conditioning will not be a factor for the wildcats i can promise you that. Foul trouble is the only thing that has and will get in the way of the wildcats and is Highlands only hope of winning this game. Without Mains and Elliot on the floor the Cats are a completely different team, but with them on the floor they are as good a team in the state.

As for individuals, Mains is looking for his 1,000th point and is coming off a poor shooting night. Look for him to be on especially since he is going against one of his former AAU teammates and good friend Vories. Vories may get some of his points but i dont think he will be able to stop Mains.

As for Elliot, there is noone in the 9th or 10th region that can guard him. He is to dominant and just has a will to win.

  6. Three of the boys that you are talking about are Strong, More, and Monroe. The three of them have the potential to form a strong nucleus. There are some other boys who will complement them in the surrounding classes. The key is to get them to develop now by playing together in AAU or other organized basketball leagues. I predict these boys will be heard from at PCC in the future.
