This one just came to me and I thought I'd float it out there. What is or was the best era of HS football for you. By era, I would mean, a 10-15 year period. Some that I have been familiar with...

2015-Present - The explosion of the RPO offenses and scoring. Fun to watch but crowds aren't as big or loud and parents as well as social media has taken some of the joy out of it. Recruiting is wild as well.

2000-2015 - Lots of variety with wishbone teams to spread teams. Passing seemed to really take off in this era. Crowds were so-so. I felt like the smaller colleges really exploded in terms of prominence during this period in terms of recruiting. Not so much social media sure was nice at the beginning of this era. I thought this was a great era for uniforms as well.

The 90's - Fun time to play in. Crowds were pretty good. Lots of teams were still holding on to the ways of the 70's and 80's. I got to be a part of a State Championship and a pass was a trick play for us. Two-a-Days were still a real thing. The Heat Index was not. Some giants of coaching were finishing up and some were starting.

The 80's - Amazing crowds and Friday night was a slugfest across the state. Shotgun snaps? You mean punt? Hardnosed football. The shimel jersey and forearm pads. RB's with lineman facemasks. The 80's were for me as a kid the apex of what HS crowds looked like. Maybe it was just me, but in the 80's the seniors all looked like they were 25 to me!

That's as far back as I go... what are your thoughts on the best era or what do you remember from your favorite era?

I think you nailed all eras listed!!!

Trying to move forward here, I am to point where the Highlands on the jersey no longer means much to me.  It used to mean a lot, but not anymore.

As happy I was for Cooper in 2023, I would like to see Highlands turn the tables this year and surprise everyone by making it to the state championship.

Who thinks Highlands will make it to the state championship in 2024?

I see Highlands making it to State and winning. Stars have aligned!

The only thing even in this world is the number of hours in a day. The difference in winning and losing is what you do with those hours and my Birds are putting in the work.

Friday night was a masterpiece @ DCM and the Pan Seared Branzino @ MARBL was spectacular.

I am seeing a Birds win this Friday and perhaps a little Truffle Mushroom Chicken post game.

I'm sure NL is putting in the work as well. From what I'm hearing, NL had an amazing practice today as did the Coaches putting in the extra time on films. This past Friday nights game was won on the defensive side of the ball. 6+/- yards of total offense for Dixie. Yeah, defense wins Championships! That's the first time Highlands D has played that mad and aggressive in years. Well before the new regime was in place.

Friday night will be a test for the Birds. I do think they win. I think the D has another great night! You can count on that NL will not stack the box. You see where that got Dixie last week.

One other thing that seemed new this past Friday night, Highlands calling Benke to the sideline on every single play call.  I'm sure there was a reason. Oh well, not complaining, seemed like a waste for this armchair!

    Go Birds!

Jags had no chance to win. It was like a cat playing with a little mouse.

C'mon Coach! If you would have stayed till the end, you would have seen Cooper almost come back. Would love to have seen some of the play calling stick to the run game, but I guess in the end, it all worked out.

  5. I heard Highlands may not show up because they don't want to play Cov Cath, for fear of a running clock. SMH

I think some of you have this confused. EVERY kid on that HHS team wants to play Cov Cath again. They feel they let that game slip away. They had numerous TO's against them and 2 of them were bad TO's that resulted in short fields. Even with all of that HHS had a dropped pass with about 45 seconds left to tie or win that game.

Yes, we all get it, Cov Cath is a great team, but I can tell you this for certain, Cov Cath has more doubt and is more afraid to play Highlands, than Highlands is to play Cov Cath. Highlands has ZERO to lose and they aren't supposed to win tomorrow.

The sophomore QB for Cov Cath had the worst game of his career and its getting ready to happen again. Pressure and big game atmosphere's can't be mimicked, you have to go through those storms. He's only been through one of those and he didn't do so well. You know that's still in his head.

IMO, the QB that has the best game will win this battle tomorrow. Grady will need time and he can't throw numerous INT's if the Birds are looking to win in Park Hills tomorrow night.

I think we are all hoping for a great game, just with different out comes. :idunno:

Ding that bell! It's go time...

Have to disagree with this my friend. Actually both teams have a lot to lose in this game. Too many to list, but trust me, lasting effects come from losing this game. It trickles through the program for starters. IMO, this is a must win for Highlands. The tide needs to change or this could become a tidal wave that takes years to recover. Ask CovCath during the DM years.

With that said, if Highlands can get any type of offense going, it will be a great game because Highlands D is playing at a very high level.

    Just sayin!

  6. Is it really that important for people to hear that their boys are good or not. I mean c’mon, it’s Highlands/CCH. Both these programs have very good teams this year. The best coached team will win Friday night. Its up to the coaches to put the players in a the right position to win.

There were times in the past where Highlands won because of how the kids were prepared and put in a position to succeed. Last couple years hasn’t been like that at Highlands. This year is different. Yeah kids are good, but coaches are doing a better job. It’s like they got a new way of doing things before the season started. Let’s hope all the coaches are on the same page of what needs to happen Friday night to beat CCH. You play your best! Period!

    Got to score to win!
