  1. all the changes were a diversion to what the real problem is. the recruiting by public schools and those in the L'ville and Lexington area. say what you want but watch who wins year after year. the x's and t's of the state have the best facilities, best coaches, best fans, best support, and best RECRUITS that any one can ask for. players make plays and without the recruiting situation being resolved nor looking like it will for a while it really doesn't matter what is done, especially in 6A.

  2. You'd be preaching to the choir on how late some players are in there, because I have felt in some games that players were left in too long. This wasn't one. I think you seriously discount that some of the decision making was due in part to how Marshall County nearly came back against them when they thought the game was out of reach. Two TDs in that short of time may seem farfetched, but when Graves had already scored on a 78 yard touchdown pass and the chance of an onside kick is out there, the lead is not truly all the way out of reach even at 1:30. I think they'd have been satisfied with just getting a first down. It so happened that the guy was uncovered and scored a TD.

The two point conversion was Ayers' call. It was not preplanned, it was a result of something he saw, be it someone breaking through the line or something else. Who knows, but I have been told it was he who called it.

And again, WC might've been responsible for the tough feelings. That's on Central I suppose. But just because I don't like someone or they've upset me doesn't give me the right and the excuse to go punch them (figuratively speaking). I understand why Graves might do that, but you can't condone it as everyone seems to want to do. "The Devil Made Me Do It" seems to be the Graves defense.

As for the exchange of talent, I think you're slapping the Graves County players in the face in an attempt to try and put down the Central coaches/boost the Graves coaches. I don't believe that it would be that big of a shift based solely on the coaching staffs for a game. And if the staffs tried to keep the same schemes, I don't know how successful either team would be. You wouldn't run a Wing-T with Central's players or the spread offense with Central's. But as I said, I think that you're insulting Graves County's players more than anything by saying that.

I disagree with the scheme thing. I bet Central and/or Christian would be pretty good at running just about any offense on the planet. They are just that good of athletes. Since you are an obvious coach at WC would you feel comfortable fielding GC's team against WC's team?

I think all your posts have been about getting heat off your staff (which probably includes you). I wouldn't nor would I bet that Coach Rogers would trade any of his EAGLES for any players. They play their guts out and He coaches his guts out!! Maybe that is a fault because coaching with that much emotion may occasionally get you in trouble. But I wouldn't trade for anything. I also saw him have his team take a knee against Mayfield on the 1yard line in his first year here when 5 to 8 thousand people in blue were screaming "score again" and "beat them as bad as you can". Good luck to you guys but I still think the 2 pt conversion (Ayers call or not) was 2nd class. If it was Ayers call maybe that tells us all what Coach Cox and his staff have taught the young man about class.

  3. If it was a joke, none of the players or staff that I talked to thought it was.

As for the game, Central came out and imposed their will at the beginning. Graves got a first down on their first posession, then went three and out on their next. Central meanwhile marched up the field both times and went up 14-0. Graves then put together a solid drive that was aided by a silly unsportsmanlike penalty on Central and they drove to the two yard line. On second down they got a holding penalty and eventually kicked a field goal. Central drove to the Graves twenty on their next possession, but turned it over on downs. Graves then hit a 78 yard TD pass on their second play and converted a two point conversion to make it 14-11. Central came down and scored before halftime to make it 21-11 at the half. Each team failed to do too much on their initial posessions, and then Central drove down and scored on a thirty yard or so TD by Brooks on a 4th and 1. That pretty much sealed the game right there, but it was still an entertaining game from that point. Somewhere in there Graves put together a good drive to make it 27-17, failing on a two point conversion. After that Brooks again scored on a 4th and 1, from about the same distance to make it 33-17. After that the offenses got sloppy. Graves lost a fumble on their second or third play after the previous score, and Central began trying to run the clock. They got it down around 4 minutes before fumbling on a reverse (!?). Graves then fumbled it right back, and then Central again returned the favor. Graves turned it over on downs, setting up the last little bit of the game, where Central threw a TD pass to their tight end on third down, then had the two point conversion which was a rollout by Ayers that he took into the end zone. On the ensuing kickoff three Graves players scuffled with #15 Keaton May of Warren Central. Worth noting that the flag was just thrown on Graves, so draw your own conclusion. A few seconds after that one of the Graves players got a personal foul for shoving another one of the Central players in front of the referee. Ugly, ugly ending, and according to the Graves coach the Central coaches should be suspended for it. Seems to me the shoe should be on the other foot.

I listened to Coach Rogers well last night on the radio. He said that in his opinion the WC coaches were responsible for the tough feelings after the 2 pt coversion and that he wasn't using his two timeouts so WC could nearly run out the clock. WC won the game with superior athletes but I would like to see the two programs trade talent and play. I bet the score would be 40 something to nothing at half and the need to run up the score would be impossible b/c Rogers would have his starters undressed in the fourth.

How good would you feel as a WC fan (or coach which is what I think you are) if Ayers would have rolled his ankle or the "frustrated graves players" would have broken his leg as he attempted a meaningless 2 pt play.

As far as suspensions, the graves coach said that there is some states that have policies/rules, that have been very controversal, implemented to keep programs from running the score up. I recall reading something in SI about it a few months ago, maybe PENN or Vermont.

I got the impression that Rogers really respected Cox before the game b/c he has commented many times that WC plays hard and that Cox is so complimentary of his kid's play. Respect is a 2 way street.
