  1. As an outsider, it just seems strange that the Mason County fans just don't see how they have such a huge home court advantage, in playing the 10th at the Field House!

Playing at the Field House on their home floor, has to worth at least five points to Mason County!

True, however, they have lost several games in the finals, Fleming County, Brossart and Campbell County have defeated the Royals. Then lofton became a soph.

  2. QUOTE=UKFAN4EVER;3738736]Great run for Brossart, but the run was the result of the Campbbell Coach not playing the right personel in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Campbell made a run at the end, but if I am right, I think the head coach had one timeout to use. Campbell also had the height advantage, they did not take full advantage, the center for Brossart should of have been attack more from the post position. Once again, the Campbell Coach was out coached by a Brossart Coach.

Give us a break, Campbell's fans always blame a coach...that is why they will never win. They need some kids that can shoot it consistantly, guards were too weak with the ball. Plus thanks to mom and dad they don't think they can beat Brossart.

  3. Also thought this was a great effort by the Tigers. There is a great future at Beechwood if all of their players stay put.....

Why wouldn't they? My understanding is several good area 8th graders are trying to get in Beechwood. I think the leaving after the 8th grade is over, good staff, good players and good administrative support. They will be the overwhelming favorite in DIII for the next 4 years. They will play a very competitive non conference schedule and the kids that play there also get to play more than one sport...don't forget they now have girls soccer. This years team did somthing that they had not done since 1998-99 and that was win 16 games, with ONE Senior.:dancingpa

  4. What about Donna Murphy, Melissa Slone, Dana Morningstar, Paula Buser, Bernadette Maddox, or outside the box what about Mote Hils?

Wow Mote...that would be about as outside as you could get. It is my understanding that Dick Maile was told he would not be considered for this job and did not even get an interview. It seems to be Kes Murphy's job. The current players seem to want this as well as the parents. Not sure what is taking so long to announce this?

It also takes an administration that will back the coach. You are starting to see some very good coaches think really hard before applying for coaching positions now a days. It is usually the coaches that have the backbone that end up not enjoying their position.

Agreed, unfortunately most administrators will allow pressure from parents to sway them. They just do not want to keep dealing with the complaints. I have seen it happen far too often and now far too frequently.

  6.

Parental involvement is different than discussing playing time or line-ups with the coach. I think that is what Oscar was speaking about.

If a coach does allow "input" from parents they are just setting themselves up for trouble.

It is with many years experience I say this. 5 players on floor=10 happy parents, 13 players on team=26 parents total. This means 16 parents not so much...:D

  7. My best guess at the 3 finalists are the following:

Kes Murphy - Currently at CCH as a frosh assistant.

Marty Petroze - Currently at NDA and has been for the past 6 or so years.

Dick Maile - No idea where he's at currently.

I know Murphy & Petroze are interested.

We all know that these three are interested, have applied whatever. They probably have been since day one, this tells me that NDA is wanting someone else or they would have been hired already. No reason to wait this long, all are qualified canidates. Maybe the parents cant decide...

  8. If Mr. Maile is willing to do it for free, then that is a very generous offer of his time. I just did not think that it would be enough to lower tuition.

You are missing my point. Maile coaching for free does nothing to the tuition cost. I am speaking of parents having to pay tuition (NDA) or sending little Cindy to (Dixie,Beechwood,Scott,Boone Co) for FREE! Enrollments are dropping. All the tuitions at all Catholic schools in NKY were froze this year due to the economy which meant all teachers salaries were froze as well. I do not think they can continue this or they will lose teachers and much needed work at the schools will not get done. To be honest I would say NDA's coach makes around 3k and most public schools around 6k...both underpaid IMO. It just makes my point that Maile if hired would save NDA about 3k if they chose to do this. This is only about 1/2 a years tuiton for 1 girl.

  9. Honestly, both QB's had terrible games throwing the ball. The fact is Rigdon's value is in his running more than his passing. Beechwood likes a QB who can run. And that becomes even more important if this offensive line doesn't get it together. Colosimo is probably a little more accurate as a passer but he didn't help himself today throwing the ball. And he is a reluctant runner at QB, although he did have a very nice run to set up the one TD for Beechwood (against the "B" team for Dixie). Plus you are putting an inexperienced QB on the field if you go with Colosimo. I think there are other options available that Beechwood will look at first. Rash and his staff will continue to make adjustments in personnel and game plans until they get it working.

As stated above, it is going to be a tough 4 week learning phase to start the season but Beechwood will be fine in district play and into the first round or so of the playoffs. Then it becomes a matchup question.

I agree he had a rough day also, however, my thought was to get Rigdon out into space and use his speed and running ability. I thought some of Colosimo's passes were off due to nerves. I also thought Rigdon made some real bad decisions for a returning starter comming off a state championship. I am sure they will be fine.

  10. Wait till about week 4 and check the records of Beechwood and NCC. It is possible they could both still be winless then. They both lost a lot and they are playing killer schedules.

Agreed, however, none of the players on this Bwood team have ever had to endure what happened today and what will probably happen to them Friday. It will be a true test mentally for these kids as well as the obvious physical challenges they are facing right now. In most years Bwood could play with anyone in NKY, this year that is not the case. JMO...but do they have the right QB playing. I thought the younger Colosimo kid did a nice job and threw a much better ball, maybe they could move the QB to the slot and take advantage of both talents, just a thought. I am sure Coach Rash will evaluate everything after this one today.

  11. Of the names mentioned on this board the most I still think it comes down to Murphy and Maile. Stamm is not going anywhere I am not sure he is even interested. McDonald is not a good fit here with the parental influences mentioned several times in previous threads. I have heard many girls coaches speak of this job as a no win situation. If you win you are supposed to or you didn't win by enough or not with the right girls playing. If you lose you are a bad coach because NDA gets all the best talent in NKY. Those close to this situation may be taking for granted that any coach would jump at this opportunity...not true. Let's face it with the economy still in bad shape and the cost of tuition some of these athletes have other options to consider. Like it or not the clock is ticking on NDA and they need to make a hire. I still think Maile is the best choice...JMO.

  12. Having family in the program would be the only reason I would hesitate to hire Dick Maile.

However, I think you're underestimating how often teams are coached by someone with family in the program.

JMO but I think you hire the best COACH possible. Who cares if they have family in the program. Most coaches are more demanding on thier own family than the other players on the team. I know it is hard for parents with kids on the team to understand but if a coach is giving special treatment or additional playing time to family over deserving players then they are not doing the job and should be dealt with by the AD. A good coach will not sacrifice his or her job to do that.

  13. I heard from a very reliable source that Dick Maile did apply for this job. Same source told me Kes Murphy is not interested. I honestly think that none of Coach Darpels former assistants want this job for a variety of reasons, some have been discussed in prior posts. They should just give Dick a chance.

  14. Maile is not the answer - knows the game but does not know the kids. There are reasons why he does not coach at CCH, NDA, or Holy Cross anymore.

I disagree with your first point. He knows the kids and the catholic feeder system better than anyone. Also, he would probably coach for less "peanuts" than Coach Darpel did. I think that is a big factor with schools trying to save every penny to keep tuition down. I do howeveer, agree with your second statement, Maile is not an assistant coach. He has his way of wanting to do things and is not affraid to voice them even if it is not the same as the head coach. So this is his perfect opportunity to be the guy. NDA should give it to him and with the current siuation how could you blame them. If it doesn't work out down the road then he had his chance.

  15. I dont think you wil get a current head coach to step away from his/her team this late in the season. Also, you have teaching contracts that have a penalty in them if you leave too late in the summer and I am not sure what positions NDA even has still open at this point, I would doubt any. I do not think any of last years assistants will even be interested in this job. I am not sure what the future holds for Coach Petroze but I do not think it is at NDA. I go back to an earlier post...I think Dick Maile may be the guy here. I think he would do it for free, he wants to be a head coach in the worst way. Coach Stamm has cast his lot at Ludlow, he would not bail out on those kids now.

  16. If someone wanted to get a "fresh start" and has had previous problems (regardless of who is at fault) .. I just can't see Coach Fookes as someone who is going to tolerate anything other than her expectations.

This probably sounds like I am passing blame or judgment ... that is not my intent.

But .. am I the only one that sees the irony here?

    No.
