  1. It is my understanding that the field did not meet minimal lighting standards and the city would not allow night activities on the field until those standards were met. If you ever saw a night game there, left field especially was a hazardous place to be because you were playing in the dark. Have patience. Hopefully everything will be ready to go by opening day.

  2. How will their o-line and d-line be? Who is over the defense?

Coach Mike Copley runs the defense for the Panthers. They will be pretty good this year. Most of the D-line returns (Shurtleff, Rowe, Bryant), OLB Ted Honaker will be back, Mayo will probably move from FS to MLB, Tim Honaker might be the other LB, the secondary will have Harmon, Sword, & Jackson returning. These guys have been busting their butts in the weight room ever since the loss to Somerset. This will be a very good defensive unit.

  4. I agree with all of this post. I also hear the guys are working hard. I don't want to be a complainer but I'm still a die-hard who thinks the Panthers should win the region every year and make a serious run for all the marbles. I'm sure everyone is working hard to get back to that point. There is tons of talent at PHS and hopefully we are back on top soon. Also, the JH team did get a late start with equipment snafus and all, and were the best team around at the end of the year IMO...the future should be very bright. :thumb:

There are alot of good kids at PHS. I only wish some of them were 6'5 and 285 lbs. LOL

  5. I will continue to support them also. Again, no one is saying don't support them.

No doubt the teams that beat us are "decent" but that's no excuse. I want to beat "decent" teams. :D

Our offense does a lot of things but none of them well, as evidenced by the "decent" teams completely shutting it down.

As for what I would like our offense to do? I would like the quarterback to line up under center and hand off to a running back more than 2 or 3 times a game. I want to see more of running over teams like Paintsville and Hazard and Somerset, which Pikeville has been able to do for the last 100 years or so. Just one fan's opinion here, but Pikeville had NO power running game for the first time ever in my memory (which is a very long one).

To be honest with you, I like the power running game also. However, this year I don't think we had the personel to do that. Next year, I think we will see more of a power game with the Harmon kid. I also think we will see a much stronger group of Panthers. Remember, this staff didn't come on board until April. Copley didn't get hired until late June. Weight training wise, we lost the bulk of the off season. From what I have seen in the weight room since July, the Panthers will be much stronger up front and that will allow for better production running the football. With our junior high team running the same thing as the high school, our kids should be much better at executing on both sides of the ball. There will not be as much of a learning period for our incoming freshmen. Our junior high team came on strong at the end of the year and they will be even better next year.

  6. Nobody said anything about not supporting the guys.

    Nobody "whining" either.

    NCC 37, Pikeville 6

    Belfry 33, Pikeville 12

    Hazard 52, Pikeville 26

    Somerset 35, Pikeville 7

Won't get you many pats on the back. And if you ask people to stay home or go elsewhere when people voice their opinion, you will most certainly get your wish. :sssh:

You're free to voice whatever you want. I will continue to support our coaches and kids who are working their butts off. The last time I looked 3 of those 4 teams are still playing so they must be pretty decent. What would you want us to do offensely. It appears to me that we do alot more than the old fashioned Wing T. We were in a shotgun with 4 wideouts alot. I feel pretty good about us being better with the more experience we have. But of course I could be wrong.

  7. I hope they face Belfry, because if not they will have another cake walk.

No disrespect meant, but Pikeville and the W-T will not have enough to be in this game. The other P-County teams are not going to be strong enough to make a game with N.C.C.

It appears to me that all you want to do is disrespect Pikeville and their system. If you don't like it, don't come watch. We'll get over it. :D

  8. I stand by NCF and my comments. Talked to many many people in Pikeville who agree with me who have been around much longer than Pikeville's last losing season (which the last one before that was in the 60's :D ) and they all agree with me. :madman:

Maybe you need to get more friends. :D

  9. Not upsetting this Pikeville fan...you are 100% correct...the ugliest offense ever conceived - bar none - and excrutiating to watch. Please guys, PLEASE...in the name of all that which does not suck...scrap that offense.

Execution is the key to any offense. There were a lot of folks who said you couldn't win a state championship running the wishbone either. I guess Belfry mistakenly claimed those two big trophies.

  10. Pikeville has a well-coached, hard-nosed team that will never embarass their community. They play great football over in the mountains, Somerset was just better this year, just like Pikeville was better the last 2 years. Hats off to the Panthers on another great year. A quick question is the Mike Jackson on the Panther's staff the same Mike Jackson that played quarterback for Corbin in the 80's if so I had to play against him and he was a great player.

    That's him.

  11. What all does Pikeville have coming back for next season? Pikeville was somewhat down this year, hopefully they will have a productive offseason and be ready to make some noise next year.

On offense, the Panthers will return John Michael Mayo at QB; Daniel Harmon, Jacob Sword, Tim and Ted Honaker, Chaz and Mitch Jackson all saw varsity action at the skill positions; Casey Rowe, Brad Bryant, Clay Elliot, Ryan Shurtleff, and Jordan Tibbs all saw time at the OL.

On Defense, Mayo, Sword, Harmon, Rowe, Shurtleff, Bryant, Jackson, Tim & Ted Honaker, JD McCoy all started at one time or other. There are plenty of young guys that were close to stepping up by the end of the year also. There might even be a couple of incoming freshman who might see varsity time as well.
