  1. With all due respect, I would say that if this gentleman is a part of a program that has produced two state championships in the state of Florida, I would say that those credentials alone are enough to land a job here in our state. Not belittling our football and/or our programs at all. But knowing the right people is 75% of the battle anymore.

Whoa...believe me...the coaching in Kentucky is AT LEAST as good as it is in Florida...better talent does not mean better coaching...

And it is usually who you know....especially when it comes to recommendations. If you have some contacts in KY call them.

  2. I have a Question for you Perry Central people out there.... Why did the Perry Co. turn down Eddie Whitaker for the coaching job? That would have brought in Josh Whitaker, and Rob Warren too the team as well. Those two players should have been a good reason to bring in the coach. But Perry Central let the Coach and Two VERY GOOD 14th Region players get alway to their cross town team (Hazard)........ And I'm 100% sure Perry Central turned him DOWN.....

I've got a better question...WHY WOULD YOU EVER, EVER LET AL HOLLAND GO? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT DECISION. Politics and HS athletics...Al is just doing what he has always done....win...looks like Coach Holland is the common factor in PCC's past success and Hazard's current/future success...

Boy, that's gotta hurt! Bet that's a move that's hard to explain to the PCC faithful...

  3. My understanding is that when you attend your first paid clinic u sign paperwork that says if you drop out of the yearly clinics, you will not run the offense. I dont know how well they can enforce that, But I hope not very well and GC will still run it.

Not true...you sign a contract that says if you copy ANYTHING, aid in implementing the system with a program not under contract you will be sued. There are a couple of teams that are about to get the hammer dropped on them for that very thing...Tony's people are very loyal to him. Tony stayed the course, stuck with his beliefs and worked his way back to the top, doing it his way...and he's been good to his friends along the way.

  4. They had a nice athlete at QB. I got to catch a couple of games on T.V. I thought he did a great job adapting to his talent there this year.

I'd love to get our guys to the clinic. I feel like it would make a huge difference when everybody can see things first hand.

Are you guys going to any of them?

No, scheduling wise we had to miss the Nashville clinic...killed me...first time in six years. We'll have to have him/them come to our place and get us caught up...That's going to be a hefty check!!

  5. Heard last week, the boosters, said they would not fund the money for the camp this year. I guess they liked the crap we ran before last year, I cant wait to watch 3 runs up the middle and then punt. If they were short on $, heck I would have paid 4 it out of my pocket, It would have been better than paying $5 a game to watch us score 7 points every game. Sorry, didnt mean to vent, but this is stupid, plain old stupidity.

They don't have to scrap the offense just because they can't go to the camp do they? The camp makes it much better, but if you an hit the clinic and still use the resources you can still have a lot of success...

  6. I've never been to any of Tony's stuff. Mumme talks about a lot of it in one of the Coach of The Year Manuals. There's a lot of it on the net too. I wish I had the cash to go to Franklin's things. I think it would be worth the money to take a staff. The Chris Hatcher videos are great at explaining some of the actual plays.

Hatch led the nation in rushing this year....

Best clinic you'll ever go to...all business.

  8. BYU started the system with LaVelle Edwards. Mumme visited there often and moved it to the shotgun. Mumme also left the Y (TE) on the right side all the time and the X (WR) on the left all the time. This was done to increase practice reps coming from the same side of the field all the time. Mumme didn't run the zone read ala Texas and Vince Young. Franklin was on that staff and he has made it into a no huddle system with color coded armbands that tell the WR exactly what to do on each play. He has also upgraded the run game. Leach runs a lot more jet sweep stuff with it and both have added (especially Franklin) more trips stuff. The beauty of all of these systems is the amount of reps they get in practice. If you ever went to Mumme's practices it was a thing of art as far as the amount of reps the players got. They just flat out out exectue people with the system and create mismatches. They all use the screen game as an extension of their run game.

Stick this post is going to cost you some bucks buddy...don't let tony see this!!

  9. Watusi, I coached Mark in college. We are great friends to this day. He is a class act and will be a good head coach in this business in due time. I have to go with Hazard however, after seeing them first hand last week. We did not play our best game and they took advantage of our miscues. Hazard has the total package to run the table. I'm saying Hazard 42 LCA 28. Good Luck and safe travel.

    Mark's a good head coach right now...

  10. All I can say is, you have to have players to compete. If you run them all off, you can't compete. So now going from 50 players down to 20, you don't have a chance agianst those teams and maybe not against any other teams on their schedule either! I'm sure there are 40 players in the school that would play if he would ease up a little bit and they could make PCC a contender every year in 5A. I understand being committed, but what he does is a little over the top if you ask me. He is a great guy and I know he is used to that from his college days, but some of these guys are not mentally able to handle that and he has to understand that!

Well, that is the hard part of coaching...trying to prepare the athletes for success and physical well being and keeping good numbers...HS is a volunteer sport, there are no scholarships...but in the long run it's about the commitment...no one will win without committed players. If you have 70 players and only 20 or so are committed, more than likely those will be the only players that will be playing during the contest anyhow...it is a tough call.

  11. Coach Dixon is by far the superior coach. He takes very few and has a pretty good team every year. He knows how to deal with his players and keep them happy and on the team. Coach Brown starts with 50 or so every year and either works them to death so they quit or makes them hate him so they quit. He has to learn how to let these HIGH SCHOOL kids live a little bit. They should not have to live football 24/7/365 for a mediocre program. They are not being paid to play, this is supposed to be an extra curricular activity for them. They are not in college yet. He tries to act like this is SEC football or something, these kids can't deal with all that just yet. If he wants to run a program like that, he needs to get back in the small college football program and treat those kids like that. Coach Dixon will prevail in the Hazard/Perry game because he has a better QB and way better defense. Perry can score, but they can't stop anyone. Yes they shut out the great Knott County Central, but they haven't been very good in a long time. So I wouldn't be bragging about a big shut out. Knott did hold Perry to just 32 pts though, they scored more against Sheldon Clark, that might say something about Knott's defense. Good luck to both teams, have a great season, hope to see you both on the carpet!

Sounds like Coach Browne is trying to prepare his young men to do battle against Rock and Bell, who are probably SEC type programs on the HS level. I don't mean to sound sarcastic but if you want to participate in an extra curricular activity then play flag football. If you want to survive, much less have a chance to compete and beat Rockcastle and Bell, you better love the game and get to work. Sounds like that is what coach browne is doing. I'm sure that is why he was hired. Commitment is an all day, everyday process and it looks like Coach Browne is demanding that from his players. I'd say the young men that are committed are hardcore football players.

The HHS vs. PCC game is always a wild one.

  12. Not sure who Hammontree is? Tim Saylor would be a good one but he has been out of it a long time. Holcomb and Hilton would be good choices but dont think they would do it. Any chance JB would leave Harlan High? Will the 1st team be 2008 season or 2009?

Tim Hammontree used to be the head coach at North Gwinnett HS in Suwanee, GA. The same school that Bob Sphire from Lex. Cath. is head coach now. Small world...

  13. Kentucky is lucky to have Archer. He's got too much big time experience, clout, and confidence to let go. Too much youth, not enough talent and depth yet. If Kentucky is going to keep Brooks, then they've got to keep Archer. One thing is good, they are starting to climb their way out and the one good thing is they would have the same staff (and with all of the youth) and the same players for a while. Might just pull off a big year next season. QB will be the big question.

They have decided to keep brooks, brooks has decided to keep his whole staff, (which I admire tremendously) so they could build this thing. There is something to say for hearing the same philosophy from the same people for four straight years.
