  1. Sounded as if KC dominated the trenches. Central's linemen are not only big and strong but mobile. Skill positions are not too shabby either. Jermel Carton rushed for 199 yards and 4 touchdowns. Qb Jaxon Stewart went down with an ankle injury in the 3rd but backup Blevin Campbell more than picked up the slack.

  2. Great game.Madison central capitalized after a stupid move by Knox by going for it on 4th down in the first quarter when they should of punted the ball way because there defense was playing solid.

Right. I'm not sure why Coach Russell elected to go for it that early, on a wet field, and on the KC side of the 50. That and the KC fumble inside the 5 yard line when it looked like they were going in for the winning score, made all the difference. Overall, a good effort against a 6A team that should pay dividends later.

  3. Knox Central opens with Madison Central in the Roy Kidd Bowl, followed by Waggoner in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic @ Corbin, before taking on Southwestern in Clay County's Appalachian Bowl. They have a hard time finding opponents for regular season games and the bowls give games plus revenue. Sucks to only play 3-4 home games a year but it is what it is.

  4. It's a different game this time. For some reason, Knox Central had decided to be a passing offense in the first game, but no longer. Still, it was anyone's game until KC started turning the ball over most notably a pick six that sealed it. Wayne Co. had an outstanding running back who did most of the damage that they lost to a collarbone injury against Rockcastle. It'll be tight but I expect Knox Central to come out on top 21-14.

  5. Central outside of Louisville or a city in general is almost like kryptonite to them. It could have been Hazard, Harlan, Pikeville, Liberty, wouldn't matter. When they play in those places they never play as well.

Most of their baffling losses come in places like that.

Both teams accepted the invitation to play. It was a regulation grass field, referees wore striped shirts, Central fans got to sit in the nice concrete bleachers on the home side, Knox fans sat in the metal bleachers on the visitors side. No banjo music on the speakers, no moonshine sold at the concession stand, no one married their cousin at halftime. That's as fair as we could make it. We won.

  6. Mercer County was the better team but Knox Central made more plays. I still cannot believe Louisville Central lost to Knox Central. Absolutely blows my mind. No offense to the Panther fans!

Look, I was at the Central game and although I'm sure Central has improved since the second week of the season, on that night Knox Central was better. Central defended KC's tallest wr with a small db that cost them at least 2 tds. KC's line was better, more physical and forced several turnovers. Central was faster but not by a wide margin.

The bottom line is, Knox won that game and last nights game. They played a brutal schedule, took their lumps and learned what they could and could not do and next Friday night they'll be playing for a regional championship and at some point people are going to have to give them their due.
