  1. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that ND plays Lloyd tonight, not Ludlow so you don't have to worry about missing that game because there is no game that features those two teams.

Ludlow's volleyball program is getting more attention during the regionals (due to a typo at the KHSAA website), than they have all season long.

Unfortunately, Lloyd's volleyball program is not getting the recognition they deserve. Even the Regional Program that they were distributing at the matches last night listed Ludlow vs. Notre Dame. They had team pictures in the program. I didn't look to see if they had Lloyd's picture or Ludlow's. That would be a real hoot.

The icing on the cake would be if someone from Ludlow were to make the All-Tournament Team. ;)

  2. Beechwood's students have been warned many times this year for there cheering and yelling. Personally i think its great that they get a great turn out for the games and they should be allowed to cheer. It is similar to basketball, you have your home court advantage. There are no rules in basketball saying you cant yell during a free throw, so let the students yell all they want during a serve.

I would love to know who the official was at the Beechwood game. At a St. Henry match a couple weeks ago, the referee gave the JV Presentation coach a yellow card, then gave him another one. First of all, from my understanding, 2 yellow cards is not valid. The second should have been red, and he should have been out of the gym. On top of that, the ref didn't have a "YELLOW" card, so he actually lifted up his white rule book, to symbolize the yellow card. Nobody knew what he was doing.

Then (getting back to the point of this thread), he continually warned the fans for being rowdy. This was an older gentlemen (55ish) with scraggling greying hair.

Does this describe the ref at the beechwood game??

  3. You are doing better than me, I can not even find where it is discussed...

It seems it would be great to get that much playing time out of every match.

In OH, 3 out of 5 is the normal match. Ask any St. Henry parent that got out of Oak Hills last night after a 3 game Freshman match, 3 game JV Match, and a best of 5 Varsity match that went 4 games. The players got home @ midnight.

This is probably the reason to avoid 3 out of 5 games. Especially in long distance travel games.

I have an idea, how about getting rid of the 20 minute warm up. St. Henry had a match against an opponent last week in which the score was 25-5 and 25-4. The warm ups almost took longer than the match. Seriously. If you include player announcements and the National anthem, pregame took longer than the match. Shorten warmups to 8 minutes, and play best out of 5.

That is my rant for the day... :jump: :jump:

  4. Although both teams appear pretty close, I believe the Camels are better than the Birds, just more inconsistent. CC beat Holy Cross and played Ryle tough, while Highlands has lost to Simon Kenton, Eastern and Logan Co. I am curious to see the Boone Co vs. Highlands outcome.

I imagine there will be lots of movement in the coach's poll.

Notre Dame just beat St. Ursula and played a strong Ursuline Academy team to 5 so I would expect they stay #1.

NCC handled St. Henry in 2 and would appear to take the #2 spot.

From there it gets a little gray

Ryle seems to be playing well but is still looking for a quality win. Their next chance for that is in Louisville next weekend.

St Henry has played a brutal schedule and is really struggling losing to Oak Hills last night.

Beechwood has beaten Holy Cross and Boone Co and lost to only NCC.

    after that...

Simon has beaten Highlands and Ryle but lost to Ryle and Holy Cross. Holy Cross beat Simon but lost to Campbell Co who has lost to Highlands but beat Holy Cross. Boone has lost to Beechwood, split with Henry Clay and either lost or beat Highlands last night. And just when Highlands looked like they were out of the mix they beat Campbell County.

Calling St. Henry's schedule "brutal" is an understatement. Also, it doesn't get any easier. They have Ursuline, Notre Dame, Assumption, Presentation, the LIT (bunch of the same Louisville powerhouses), Henry Clay Tournament (Lexington's best), Northeast OH Tourney (Northern Ohio's best), and the Fall Classic at Cinci Mercy (Southern Oh's finest). This is after playing McCauley, Bishop Watterson, Louisville Mercy, Lousiville Sacred Heart already.

It has become obvious that post season play is the focus. This brutal regular season schedule prepares for success during the post season. Hopefully this year reaps the same results as the past 3 years...

  5. I think your list looks fine except for John Maley of Ryle. He is not a top ten player. Maley didn't even start most of the time last year and never made a name for himself.

If McGraw from Highlands plays this year, he will be a top ten player.

I do have to give John Maley one bit of Kudo's.

He had a dunk in a FRESHMAN game a couple years ago that caught everyone off guard. He threw it down like it was his job. I have heard that he has suffered from some back problems, but it wasn't his back that had problems that night, it was the backBOARD!!!!

Hope to see you excel this year John. Keep working hard.

  6. He first committed to Wittenberg to play, but then decided to go to Coastal Carolina to just be a student with his brother, Marcus. Then last night I heard that he was considering staying close to home and playing ball for Thomas More. He lives right down the street from campus. He could literally walk to school if he decides to go there.

Interesting, because he was at TMC on Sunday playing ball in a summer league. His parents (and what appeared to be a co-ed friend :ylsuper: ) watching him play. As was Eubel, and others from some local high schools.

  7. We did not play like our record tonight and all credit goes to the SC pitcher, who kept us looking very bad all night. Congrats to the Rockets. You were the better team for a night and that's all that mattered. Great job, Raiders, this season, and don't beat yourselves up thinking about what went wrong tonight. That kind of unexplainable stuff just happens in sports where Cinderella bites you in the rear end some times. You are an awesome bunch of young men and we stand behind you win or lose!

I agree wholeheartedly about the class and pride that the Ryle Raiders have shown. There is a fabulous group of seniors leaving Ryle (Wags, Hump, Vince, etc...) that no-doubt have left a lasting impression on the underclassmen. Great Job guys. Don't dwell on the loss. There is only one team in the state that win's thier last game each year. The other hundreds lose. I wasn't there, but I suspect you did it with class and sportsmanship. Remember the positives, like the fact that all but 8 schools were done over a week ago...

I'm sure your summer ball teams were rooting for you, but they will be happy to have you join the team. I know one of them, and he has been scrambling.

Anyway, nice job, the 9th region is proud of you.

  8. I was talking with a coach this past weekend and he mentioned that there is going to be a high school fall league in NKY this year. He said that At The Yard is running the fall league. Didn't know if anyone had heard this and had more information on it.

There is a HS Fall League that is run in NKY called the Boone/Kenton/Campbell Fall Ball. It is run at fields such as Villa, Bellevue Vets, Central Park, etc... which enables schools to play without breaking any KHSAA Rules.

Last year we played in it and they had 8 Varsity Teams, 8 JV Teams, and I believe 10 Freshman Teams. Very well run, inexpensive, and played primarily on Sunday's. There is rumor that this year Saturday morning or early afternoon games will be an option also.

I you need contact information, PM and I will give you the name and contact person that runs it.

  9. If Elliott is on his game it will not be "in similar fashion as game 1!" His team must play defense behind him and if he gets a few runs watch out.

The umpire being discussed in game two was the same home plate umpire in the first game. My question to the head of the umpires would be why after a team complained about him in the district tourney and was canned for doing the district final and then brought back to do the plate in the 1st rnd of the regional tourney w/the same team who made the complaint? I think this is a slap in the face to the coach. This umpire was a JV ump last yr and couldn't do that and now he is doing the district/regional tourney. Talk about weak in the 9th region, where did all the good umps go to, retire?

    Good luck to all tomorrow!

3PS, showing your lack of inside knowledge again....

During the final, this umpire was not pulled from the game. It was his turn to sit out. There are 4 umpires assigned, to fill 3 spots. He had already worked the two previous games, and it was his turn to sit out.

Additionally, your coach complaining fell on deaf ears. He had an opportunity to scratch an umpire, and chose to scratch on of the best in the region. Again, not much intelligence shown there.

Lastly, the umpire in question IS one of the best in the region, otherwise he would not have been chosen for this spot BY THE COACHES, the ASSIGNER and his peers. So while you may not like him, you are obviously biased and you are obviously in the minority... (again....).

Lastly, try to limit the personal attacks. Last week it was Luke Maile, this week it is the umpire. Man... take a vacation day and relax a bit....

  10. I was sitting with the KHSAA umpires and the head of the KHSAA umpires today during the first game. He told me that all the men in blue today were from the ninth and all the umpires in this round will be ninth region umpires. He did however tell me in the next round, we will find the KHSAA bringing in a new crew from another region.. Personally I thought the men in blue did a rather good job in all the games today.....and I only had a rooting interest in one of them...

Sorry old guy, but you must have been sitting with an imposter. The umpires for tomorrow night and the finals will be a 4 man crew from the ninth region. The same 4 umpires will do all 3 games (2 semi and 1 final) with a different position for each one.

HOWEVER, They will ALL be ninth region umpires. Same 4 guys that you have seen on the 9th regions diamonds all season. These umpires were voted into the honor of working the districts and regionals by the coaches, the assigner and thier peers. If 3ptshooter doesn't like the umps, he is in the minority.

  11. .

Have you ever seen a linebacker hit a receiver across the middle with a clean, but violent hit. Do you take his knees out the next play because he stood over the receiver after the hit and taunted him???

This is now a 15 yd penalty, unsportsman like! I don't think baseball has any of these type rules.

No one said anything about hurting another player.

Your backpedaling is falling on deaf ears.... :sssh:

Just a side note, I have no allegiance with CCH. I am simply a High School baseball fan.

  12. Apparently there are different standards on BGP...this kid is being held to one that's unigue to him I guess. I realize success breads attention and scrutiny...but at least be reasonable. It really wasn't much! It is exactly like hundreds of emotional expressions by competitive kids all over the country. Pumping the fist after a big three....clapping the hands after a big single, double, whatever...a high five after turning a double play...jumping and chestbumbing after a td or a big hit in fb....it goes on and on. This kid must be an absolute punk? So far we've got wearing his hat backwards under his catchers helmet...and flipping his bat down after a home run...not a big deal..nothing different than you see every day all over. The only difference is he has your full attention...that's not fair imo. Are you telling me you haven't seen any other poy candidate express any emotion? I saw Ferris these past two years flip, and it didn't even phase me...heck, Mr Ferris hit the ball 400 plus feet on one of them...I would guess it's kinda a natural reaction to watch for second and flip it aside when you hit it that far that fast.....

I agree (as you can see from my post). Makes me wonder if 3ps heard the snide remarks yelled out of the Beechwood dugout by bench players when Blesser let the ground ball roll through his legs at first base in the 5th or 6th inning of Wednesday nights game.

Beechwood bench players taunting the opponent, and all this while Beechwood was being routed. I doubt it ever entered thier minds to plunk a Beechwood player after those remarks... you know why... because these are kids, it is no big deal and life goes on after the game.

  13. It was Wags, just talked to him and he feels bad and hopes Mark can play Monday...my bet is he will, and I'am glad it was the glove hand. Wags said he was comming across the bag to field the throw from Hump and his arm slid right under his spikes. Good luck Monday WG.

Also...congrats to the Raiders for winning the 33rd District and for putting up over 300 runs this year. Congrats to the 33rd District All Tourney Team

    Ryle - Brent Humphrey MVP

    Ryle - Jeff Hatfield

    Ryle - Garrett Wagner

    Boone - Brad Korhman

    Boone - Cory Farris

    Conner - Shane Taylor

    St Henry - Scott Volt?

    Heritage - Nick Elsworth

The St. Henry Player is Sophomore Scott Volz...

  14. Great player but this is not necessary at the high school level. This disappointed me.....As a player, especially in high school, you don't show up the other kids by flipping the bat.

I was leaning towards Maile as POY, now I am back on Farris after the flip of the bat.

Chill out fellas... This is a 15 year old boy.

Have you ever seen a linebacker hit a receiver across the middle with a clean, but violent hit. Do you take his knees out the next play because he stood over the receiver after the hit and taunted him???

Have you ever seen one of the other POY candidates get a double with bases loaded in a close game, and then clap over his head once he gets to second celebrating a clutch hit. We don't throw at his ear-hole.

Have you ever seen one of the Top volleyball players serve an ace or get a kill and the players celebrate a great play?? We don't wish lightning would strike her...

What Luke did is show passion for the game. He showed what you see everyday in other sports.

Interesting this remark about it being "classless" came from what I believe is a fan of the team he hit it off of.

  15. Good analysis. DD must really be under your skin.

I think I speak for the masses....

Just kidding DD. I did notice you quieted down a bit... did the wife (or the boy)catch you on BGPreps again and take away your priveleges....

We will miss DD next year when he is watching his boy playing at the next level. His HS team will miss the his boys leadership and enthousiasm for the game. I spoke to one of the HS coaches, and they are really going to miss this entire Senior class. A great group of kids. This is not to be taken negatively by the rest of the team. It's just that the seniors seem like they have been playing varsity out there for @ 6 years.

  16. They do have pitching but not consistant pitching w/the exception of Elliott in regards to walks. One day they will throw a remakable game and the next time out can not find the plate. They have super exceeded everyone's expectations this yr, IMO but next yr watch out for the Tigers to make a lot of noise, like another regional title. No one can say young and inexperieced w/next yrs team. They all got plenty of experience this yr so that excuse will no longer be valid.

    dancingpa

If Beechwood thinks they have things wrapped up next year, they need to look down Dixie Highway at thier nearest HS neighbor in Park Hills. They may show thier heads again next year. I agree that Beechwood is going to be good, but there are other teams in the same situation.

  17. From what I have seen throughout the region, there is not ONE team w/really any dominating pitching, I don't mean just one pitcher either.

    3PS,

As much as I hate to say this... because I know it makes DiamondDandy happy, you need to look at the pitching stats in the Post from this past Tuesday. Ryle has 4 pitchers in the top 10 in number of wins.

Ryle has the pitching to win in a regional that is over in 3 or 4 days.

If it goes more than that, Cov Cath has enough... pitching, with Niehaus, Blesser, Nutini, Isler and others.

From what I know about the rest of the teams, they are going to struggle. Again, as much as I hate to say it, I do think that the infield defense and pitching will win it for Ryle... not the offense. If Cov Cath wins it, it is because of GREAT COACHING and strong offense. There is not a weak spot in thier offensive line-up.

I am considering just packing up the truck with a cooler, a sling chair, and a canopy and parking up at Freedom Field and watching baseball all day on Monday. What better way to spend a holiday.

  18. In the end, it will be Assumption.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but don't be so certain.

If you look at the State Tournament last year, Assumption was forced to three games by to different teams. (Mercy and St. Henry in the Finals). This proves to me that they can be beaten by a KY team. I will say it was amazing the composure they had after losing the second game of the match in the finals. They laughed it off and went out and sent a message in the last game.

I do think that Assumption is tops, but again, the gap is shrinking.:thumb:
