  1. I think you are totally missing the point on some things. I'll take Joey Votto over just about anybody in today's game but I just wish that he wouldn't be so darn selective in certain situations. Bases loaded, 3 and 2, and 2 outs should be a situation where he should thrive. I'm sure there are stats on how he has done historically in that situation and if you can show me stats that show he usually does then I'll lighten up on him and quit calling him an "airhead".

Votto has had 7 AB's this year with bases loaded. He has 3 hits, including a double, a triple, and a HR. He has 11 RBI's. Average is .429 with bases loaded; .500 OBP with Basese loaded; 1.286 SLG with bases loaded; and 1.786 OPS with bases loaded.

    With men on & 2 outs: he's 13 for 44 with 2 doubles, 4 HR, 14 RBI. He's batting .295 with .426 OBP, .614 SLG and 1.040 OPS

  2. Not really. This guy was supposed to be the "anchor" of the staff and he has had maybe one or two really good starts. Pitching 5 or 6 innings to me is not a quality start and I think that is one of the big problems with major league baseball.

I don't know a single person that follows baseball at all who predicted Castillo was going to be an anchor on this year's staff. He's 25 and had less than 90 MLB innings coming into this year. Tonight was his 30th career start. Give him a chance.

  3. I heard this nugget on the Baseball Tonight Podcast: Since breaking into the big leagues, among players with at least 1500 plate appearances Billy Hamilton is dead last in runs produced.

Is it time to use him almost exclusively as a late inning pinch runner/defensive replacement?

Yes, and I think/hope Hamilton will get traded as we approach the deadline. I do think he has some value to a contender as a pinch runner & defensive replacement, particularly teams with larger outfields.

  4. I would have to see the actual figures behind the phrase "unusually large sizes and great frequencies". Considering what one has to go thru to purchase a box of Sudafed, a non-prescription drug, I find all of this a little hard to believe.

Clay County residents alone filled prescriptions for 2.2 million doses of hydrocodone & about 617,000 doses of oxycodone during a 12 month period in 2016. That's roughly 150 doses for every man, woman and child.

McKesson Corporation is a major part of the problem -- between January 2010 and the end of 2016, McKesson alone distributed 18.4 million doses of painkillers in Floyd County, KY -- enough for 477 pills for every adult and child in the county. Perry County, KY was even worse, with 526 doses per person.

  5. Castillo just gave up a Grand Slam on a 1-2 count to a PH for the pitcher. But yet, that is not the worst part. He hit it on a hanging curve ball after he just threw two fastball right by him. How about a change-up? Got beat with his third best pitch. Who ever is calling pitches should just go and change and head for the airport for the flight home. A classic case of over thinking it.

Calling for a slider there is bad; hanging the slider is worse. Nonetheless, I'm excited about Castillo.

  6. Bashing the KHSAA for this is fine if you dont understand the larger scope of the picture.

The conflict makes it apparent that the KHSAA doesn't understand the "larger scope of the picture."

    The KHSAA's Mission Statement:

"To provide governance and leadership in order to regulate and progressively administer the highest quality interscholastic sports and sport-activities in an efficient manner, and promote the values of participation for all involved in education-based athletics and school-based sports. The KHSAA will work collaboratively with its member schools to recognize and promote the primary focus of high school academic success and college and career readiness for the student participants, risk minimization for all participants in the programs, and the efficient administration of the education-based athletic program in the schools."

The KHSAA failed its student-athletes here.
