Hoops for Harvest - Dixie gives up a double digit lead and a 4th quarter lead to the hard charging Camels who outscored the Colonels 27 to 11 in the 4th. Carner had 26 points and Buddenburg added 18 but it wasn’t enough. The Camels got 20 from Augsback, 15 from Jayasuria and two other Camels had double digit games.

Hoops for Harvest - Assumption 63 Frederick Douglass 60 The second half was all Frederick Douglass. Knowles is a player! The Broncos went to her all day, and she was virtually unguardable. It went to overtime on a last-second shot by Nia Carr. Duck and James were big, but Campisano had some good steals in clutch time. Great game!

Hoops for Harvest - Frederick Douglass vs Assumption Assumption 34 Frederick Douglass 25 Knowles leads Douglass with 11 points at half. Duck and James have 10 points a piece for Assumption. The athleticism of Douglass is keeping them in this game. Assumption is really good.

Didn’t see this coming at half but the Pioneers only score 10 points in the second half as GRC blows it open. Stamper scores 17 and Green adds 16. Pernell leads SK with 14.

Hoops for Harvest - GRC vs Simon Kenton Very physical, up and down game as you’d expect from both teams and their coaches. GRC has a 28 to 24 halftime lead. Green leads GRC with 9 points and Pernell and Ober lead the Pioneers with 8 points a piece.

Wilkens leads the Valkyries with 24 points and 6 rebounds as Sacred Heart comes up short against a very talented Lawrence Central squad from Indianapolis.

The length and athleticism of Lawrence Central seemed to bother Sacred Heart early. Lawrence Central up 20-11 at end of 1st quarter and leads Sacred Heart 37-26 at the half.

Three Example Academy Eagles score 10 points each to lead the visitors over Ryle by 12. With no Jaelyn Jones the Raiders struggled at times to find points. Jayden McClain led the Raiders with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Emerson Dowell had 11 points. Overall a good showing for the Raiders. The Example press caused some early TO’s but Ryle settled as the game went along. Coach Haitz taking some lumps early but will definitely help as the year goes along and they get Jones back.

Hoops for Harvest - Ryle vs. Example Academy With no Jones (out with concussion protocol) it is tough finding baskets. Ryle down 29-17 at half. McClain leads Ryle with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Kennedy Ellison has 10 points and Emani Spencer with 6 points.

If you are looking for a full day of basketball with nationally ranked elite girls basketball talent, the 7th Annual Hoops for Harvest on Saturday, December 7th at Dixie Heights High School is the place to be! The first game of the Hoops for Harvest Showcase matches Ryle High School from the 9th Region versus an athletic Illinois prep school called the Example Academy. Ryle is led by Junior shooting guard Jaelyn Jones and a 6’4” 8th grader, Jayden McClain. Ryle has a lot of new faces having lost two D-1 stars to graduation but Coach Katie Haitz will be sure to have them ready to go! This is Example’s Varsity team and not their National Team that will square off later Winton Woods. Tip-off for Game #1 is at 10:30am. The second game features the 4-time defending Kentucky State Champion Sacred Heart Academy against Lawrence Central High School from Indianapolis, IN. Sacred Heart has recent LSU signee ZaKiyah Johnson. Johnson is a McDonald’s All-American candidate and one of the top players nationally in the 2025 class. Sacred Heart also has exciting sophomore point guard Tootie Jordan and transfer Bri Wilkens who is one of the top Juniors in the state. Lawrence Central is hoping that the sister bond is strong enough to break down the dominance of the Valkyries. 6’1” Senior Wing, Jaylah Lampley, is one of the top players in the 2025 class and her 6’2” sister Lola, who plays both Point Guard and Forward, is one of the top players in the country in the 2026 class. This should be a fast moving game with lots of star power. The third game features one of the top teams in Ohio versus one of the top prep schools in the country from Illinois. Winton Woods returns almost their entire team including two signees Ryan Davis (Fairmont State) and Daniah Trammel (Buffalo) as well seven other girls with offers or interest. Whitley Davis is a 2026 guard with a half dozen D-1 offers and 2029 guard Dahkari “Strawberry” Blakeumsee who also has interest from several D-1 schools. Example Academy has ten girls with college scholarship offers. They have had two girls tear ACL’s early in the season but the cupboard is still full! The fourth game of the day is state of Kentucky and 10th Region powerhouse George Rogers Clark against always tough Simon Kenton from the 8th Region. GRC won’t have their star player Ciara Byars back from injury yet, but they have a full complement of stars including Sophomore Guard Kennedy Stamper, Junior Guards Anaya Chestnut and Teigh Yeast as well as Senior Guard Jailenn Green. Simon Kenton has Sophomore Guard Brynli Pernell along with Juniors Haylie Webb and Anna Kelch. This game also features two of the top coaches in the business in Jeff Stowers and Robbie Graham. The fifth game features Lexington versus Louisville when Frederick Douglass plays Assumption. Frederick Douglass has D-1 prospect Jaelee Knowles and recent Transylvania signee Kate Baker. Assumption counters with a stacked roster featuring Senior Guard, Lauren Campisano, Senior Forward, Kyleigh Hall as well as the new additions of Indiana - Purdue signee Senior Guard, Bailee Duck, Junior Guard Ava Moore and Freshman Guard Se’Rae Palmer. Their top newcomer is Junior Guard, Ashlinn James, who is an Indiana University commit and was recently made eligible by the KHSAA so Assumption is fully loaded! The sixth game features host Dixie Heights against the Campbell County Camels. Dixie looks to surprise the 9th Region with a very talented roster including Senior standouts Catherine Buddenburg and Bella Crawford as well as returning starters who were out with injuries last year in Junior Coralee Pelfrey (ACL) and Sophomore Point Guard, Asia Carner. Campbell County from the 10th region has a very talented and young roster with standout Izzy Jayasuriya leading the way and a trio of Freshmen to bolster the lineup. Camels’ Freshmen Kendall Augsback, Addie Davis and Stella Brockman will give the 10th Region fits for years to come. This should be a great game with local interest for the fans! The seventh and final game of the day is Mercy Academy from Louisville and Lawrence Central from Indianapolis. The Lampley sisters will be playing their second game of the day so they will have to dig deep to fend off a scrappy Mercy squad. Mercy is led by their top returning scorer, Junior Guard Abby Reitzel. This will be a full day of girls basketball that features more than 30 college coaches in attendance as well as a representative from the McDonald’s All American Game selection committee and USA Basketball. This basketball showcase was designed to highlight the skills of these very talented and hard working young ladies.
