Wow that is news to me. The kid can definitely play at either of those schools. A little surprised Cov Cath is letting him get away. Could be a case of too many cooks in the kitchen. They have a lot of guards in that sophomore and freshman class.
-
5 and 5 at best. They are not beating Cov Cath, Cooper, Highlands, CAL or St. X. They have some pretty good players but they seem to always have good players but end up 5-5. Some of that is because they play a tough schedule and some of it is because I just can’t figure it out.
-
Where do you think McGilis is going? He is already at one of the best basketball programs in the state with a lot of talent coming back. I am sure there is a 6’8”-6’10” kid out there somewhere who would love to play with the team that Cov Cath has coming back. And really that’s all they need to be highly competitive again this season. But if the Carney kid from Pittsburgh transfers to Newport then everyone in the 9th is playing for 2nd.

As I am sure you know there are many FCS programs that either offers partial athletic scholarships or no athletic scholarships and yes The Ivy League and The Patriot League are two of those leagues. I never compared the 2 conferences as far as football programs just that the comment was that because Butler did not offer scholarships that it was “misleading’ to say the 2 Beechwood kids received a D1 offer. I wasn’t trying to be defensive I just thought it was disrespectful to those 2 boys who have worked hard to get those offers no matter who the offer is from to say that they really didn’t get a D1 offer. I have seen many kids on this site who have gotten offers from Patriot League teams like Dayton and others but I never saw anyone saying those offers were misleading because they did not offer athletic scholarships. I think we should always be encouraging and supportive of all the young men no matter where they go to school. The season will be starting soon and I am sure both these young men will prove themselves worthy of the offers they receive.

I would have thought congratulations would have been in order but if you prefer to dismiss their offer because Butler doesn’t offer athletic scholarships then I guess that’s your prerogative. Ivy League schools do not give athletic scholarships but I have not seen any correction about it being misleading when players have been offered by Ivy League schools. Word is that both of the young men have had a lot of schools in to meet with them over the last month so I am sure they will both get other offers. Hopefully they will meet your approval for legitimate offers.

Luke Erdman and Cole Howard received their first D1 offers today from Butler University. I don’t think it will be their last offer.

You know what they say about opinions. Let the games begin.

Guru, you are a Beechwood guy. Come on man!!! Ha ha….. I am not saying everyone else should mail it in but I am saying that Beechwood is loaded this season from top to bottom but as we all know anything can happen and that’s why they play the games. I am looking forward to an exciting season.
-
Beechwood has every single skill player back. 3 of the best 2A receivers in the state, one of the top returning running backs in 2A in the state and one of the top 4-5 QB’s in the entire state of Kentucky regardless of class. They have 4 starting OL/DL men returning and they are getting a 6’4” 270 lb transfer lineman who played at Moeller last year. Their line will be the biggest and most athletic line they have had there in recent memory. The only 2 games they lost last season was to 4A runner up Cov Cath in the last minute and then lost in the semis to the eventual state champ Mayfield 31 to 28. I think the Atwell kid is an exceptional player and I am sure they have some other really good players but based on the information above I think there is a good possibility it may be a few more years for OC.

Donavan Carney is unreal. If he comes to Newport with Kinney, Yamil, Turner and Starks Newport will be the favorite to win a state championship and Rondon will be their only senior the rest of the team will be back in 2026. Snapp will need a few bench pieces but they should be really really good.
-
What about the kid from Cooper. He has been offered by Kentucky and being seriously recruited by a lot of Power 5 programs. I haven’t seen him play but the kid must have something they like.
-
That kid can absolutely throw the football. As far as just passing the football I don’t think there is a better pure passer in the state of Kentucky. And he has 4 absolute stud to throw the ball to in the fall. I am sure Clay will impress some college coaches this weekend.

St Ed’s offensive line averaged 6’5” 310 lbs last season and was the strength of their team. Pretty sure all 5 starters graduated 2 went to Ohio State, 1 to Michigan, 1 to Penn State and not sure about the other one. Don’t get me wrong I think they will still be really good but I do think Boyle got them on a rebuilding year so you never know. FD thought they were going to be able to play with Hoban last year and they got destroyed. Ohio D1 football is a different level.

Great young man wish I could have seen him in KY blue but I am a fan and can’t wait to see him at the next level.

Owensboro Catholic is the one team that worries me. Brady Atwell is a beast and I think they have gotten several transfers from their crosstown rival Owensboro. They should be really good this season. And you know Lexington Christian and Mayfield will reload. Should be a fun year, I can’t wait to get it started.

Come on Guru you got to get off the fence. I agree that they have a tough early season schedule culminating with CC looking like their toughest opponent. CC still has a lot of questions upfront and Beechwood has all their horses back except Xavier Campbell and the new kid should help with that loss. Beechwood should have won the game last season so I really like their chances this season. Honestly some of the other early opponents look to be competitive but I like the Tigers in all those matchup’s. Be interested in getting your perspective.

4 class system is perfect for a state the size of Kentucky. 6 class system is way too watered down. 3 does not allow many of the small schools much of a chance to be competitive. 4 is definitely the perfect system for Kentucky.

It would be 1 and 4 in the last 25 years if they played them this season. Beechwood is loaded up and down the roster!11

Why does Campbell always have good football programs at the middle school level but they usually struggle at the high school level? Maybe the better football players transfer to other schools? They are always one of the top teams in NKY in almost all their other sports but continue to struggle in football. I don’t get it.

With Mattox Kelly, the new kid from Moeller, Brody Waddell, Jack Meier and Chance Baugh the Tigers should have one of their biggest and more athletic lines in recent memory. Throw in all their skill guys Chase Flaherty, Clay Haden, Luke Erdman, James Cusick and the Fryman kid and that is going to be a tough out for anyone in the state much less anyone in 2A. I can’t wait to see them match up with Cov Cath this year.

No better than 6-4 with the schedule they have.

Shelby Valley did it with Elisha Justice. They were coached by one of the best coaches to ever walk the sidelines in Kentucky high school basketball Coach Jason Booher.

Kid looks good. The kid that transferred from Moeller to Beechwood has tape that is just as good if not better against much better competition. Not quite as big as Merz but looks like he is not quite as pudgy and he moves a lot better. Anyone know if he has an offer list yet?
-
I know the kids uncle. Said he came in 3rd in the Moeller Crusader Challenge last season which is a competition that measures strength, speed, agility. The only 2 kids that beat him was their 5 star running back Jordan Marshall that signed with Michigan and their stud middle linebacker. He beat 4-5 kids who are DBs, receivers and DL who are being recruited by top power 5 schools. The kid looks like a beast. His uncle said the first play on his huddle film is against the 4 star DL from St. X who signed with Michigan. He put that kid on his back.

2024 Ryle Raiders

If Ryle beats Cooper this year then send over the crow and I will sharpen my knife and fork. It’s not gonna happen.
