I'll be honest, I really didn't expect Highlands to allow 35 points and 505 yards to the Campbell County offense. I was especially surprised to see that the Camels had 373 yards passing because I felt like Highlands was pretty effective covering receivers last week against Cov Cath.

I think the biggest thing that Campbell Co. got right was getting the ball out quickly. Highlands DL is probably the best part of their defense and the fact that campbell schemed to get the ball out quick and not allow the Highlands pass rush to develop helped them out.

CAL looked strong at that 7 on 7. That may be one of the best 7 on 7's in the Country and CAL went 6-1 in pool play and lost in the Semi's of their bracket.

The team that beat them in the Semi-Finals of their bracket is Walton, GA who may be one of the favorites to win Georgia's largest classification. My nephew's team finished as the runner-up in the other bracket. They never got a chance to play CAL, they did play Highlands, but he watched CAL a little and was super impressed.

Said he was surprised CAL's QB isn't being more heavily recruited because he thought he was a super star.

CALs Qb just committed to East Carolina about a month ago. He definitely is a star.

My nephew's team, Prince Avenue Christian, beat Highlands out of the 7 vs. 7 tournament.

He said they were really skilled and very competitive with most of the teams they faced.

FWIW, Prince Avenue won the Georgia Class A title last year and finished ranked in the Top 100 in Maxpreps. They return a QB going to Wake Forest and should be very good this year.

Thinking Highlands should be pretty solid!

Prince Avenue ended up reaching the finals of one of the brackets and lost to a very good Gainesville, GA team 26-20 that will be one of the heavy favorites in Georgia 6A and probably a Top 100 team in the country.

From observing the games, Prince Avenue had one of the most intricate offensive schemes and they ran it to perfection. every play was drawn up to confuse the defense and get somebody open.

If Rash hadn't stepped down would they be higher on the list? And since Highlands CovCath was brought up, what's the QB competition situations at both schools? I've been around long enough to know not to put any faith in Dixie.

hard to tell at highlands. Benke has been playing baseball so he hasn't been at any football practices. looks like we will have to wait until the summer most likely to tell.

The only way CCH loses to SK is if the younger linemen are nowhere near where I think they are and SK controls the clock. Crone was a very good HS QB and there is going to be a big drop off to the soph I assume they will start. Not like that's a negative to the soph as I'm sure he'll wind up being a fine player in a couple years, but Crone was in the Mr. Football conversation and a big, physically mature QB.

After looking through the Highlands thread, it's probably a toss up with what they have back on the LOS. However, I think we will be a good amount better on the perimeter than them (Heck, our third leading receiver last year in his first varsity game as a soph was able to out physical older, startng GCL South corners for contested catches). Assuming we don't try to run the ball right at them (fingers crossed), we should be able to put up some points.

I am also very, very excited to see Rodriguez play at about 15 to 20 lbs of good weight heavier than last year. He was already a super physical player, but I think he has a chance to be a true game changer and Mr. Football candidate this year (ex. 1000 yards, 15 TDs, 10 sacks on D).

In regards to the LOS, the offensive line should look about the same. Gonna lose a guard and tackle in Schwalbach and Bowman. will have Schwietzer, Johnson, Fassler, and some pretty damn good incoming juniors.

Defense is kind of hard to tell. The whole year they rotated heavily but losing Trevaughn Woods and Schwalbach is gonna hit heavy.

Last I checked, Highlands didn't win a championship last year, and didn't even make it to the regional... So I guess the football team didn't train with him either?

Ik that was sort of a joke, but yea they didn't. They don't directly train with Jordan but a lot of the players do train with him. I think the bigger thing is that Charles trains a lot of Cooper players because he is based out of Union.

Exactly. There is some more back story to this I'm thinking. My guess Coach Johnson poorly used Highlands as his topic that night but let's be honest, it's being driven from something else. My peeps are telling me he is in a Social media war with Jordan Nevels. Who by the way is the exclusive trainer for the Highlands Basketball team. Was it really a shot at Jordan rather than Highlands? Jordan was the 1st person to call whoever he thought would listen when Johnson was hired on as the WR's coach in 2022 saying it was a bad move. Why? Tell us how you really feel. My guess Jordan is feeling an little uneasy about maybe Johnson might take some kids from Highlands and that Nevels feels the players should be only training with him. And vice versa. Again why? If I had several options for trainers, then I would make sure I was sending my Child to what was the best fit. I have noticed that all these trainers want to get in on the action once a Athlete is doing well. Like Willie the big WR from CCH. When Willie started garnering all the attention, all the Gyms around town started proclaiming that they were the ones that made it happen. Again, Johnson probably regrets saying what he said and I even tried to find the post myself. Apparently he has deleted his Acct. But this is being driven by another source. I am hearing Johnson is still on staff and will be coaching again this year at Highlands. This situation was addressed and taken care of the very next morning and both programs are moving forward. Maybe a not as tight as they once thought but moving forward. No one's perfect but through all of this no one has mentioned that there might something else here. Maybe just maybe. Just my two cents.

That's exactly what my thought process was behind this. I really didn't think it was a direct shot at the team but really at Jordan. Alot of kids who train with Jordan play 7v7 with Charles. So it's all just a big spider web of who is connected to who.

  8. 10-0 ceiling

    8-2 floor

Lex Cath, Cov Cath, and Raceland/Cooper are really the only teams that pose a true threat. I think Cooper could beat Highlands, emphasis on the could, but realistically Highlands should sweep their district. The Lex Cath game to open the season will be a barn burner and then you have to turn around and beat Cov Cath the next week. sheesh. If the birds can start the season off with two wins against those two teams I'd have them as a heavy favorite to win state until something else happens.

I picked this game up in the 2nd half thanks to the Holmes Athletics channel on YouTube. This is the kind of game I thought Conner would have after being off 10 days verses Mason County but looks like they saved it for Holmes. Not a very good shooting night for Conner any where on the court.  This game was closer than most probably think it should have been but Coach Otte did pull some starters in the 4th and Conner did enough to get out of Covington with the win.

Looking at Holmes record most would’ve thought this game would be over by halftime or at least by the end of the 3rd but watching Holmes play on their home court they had fight. Holmes was quick and just kept attacking. If the 3 was falling for Holmes this may have been an upset post but like Conner (at least n the second half I saw) they were nothing hitting much from 12 foot and out.

Conner travels to Fort Thomas on Friday to take on Highlands. I’m assuming this game will be broadcasting via the Highlands Athletics channel on YouTube. I’m guessing this will be a packed house with a rowdy student section and band present.

I remember Highlands used to have a pep band for basketball these past few years but have yet to see them this year. I do think that the Highlands student section will make as much if not more noise than the band would.

Highlands is definitely unique.  But as a whole, I really don't enjoy stadiums with seating on only one side.  I do understand the need if several cases.  Just not my cup of tea.

that's what happens when the school is in the middle of a neighborhood. the soccer, baseball, and softball field are all off campus as well.

Beechwood? I really don’t see where either team benefits in the slightest off this game.

Also, Coach Bathiany at Lex Cath is a Highlands grad. The cool thing about this series is they are going to incorporate Jr High games prior to the varsity game. I am not sure this game will be played on 8/18 or 8/19 but the intention is to make this a continuing series on the 1st Saturday of the season and make it a 3-4 game event between Jr High, Frosh and Varsity. No Frosh game this season. It may be added in the future. Very cool idea.

I heard the intention was for it to be on a saturday to do that but it looks like this year it will be on a friday.
