  1. Mayfield is no question one of the toughest places to go win in the state, maybe the country. I've been there several times for games and its always a special place to watch a game and I'm happy this group gets to compete there. To make many of us feel old, no member of this team had been born the last time Metcalfe went to Mayfield 12-0 in 2003. Maybe it's fate that this team avenges that loss many years ago. I feel Metcalfe will be able to run the ball in this game. It comes down to Metcalfe needs to play mistake free and get a couple big plays on each side of the ball. It's possible and I'm excited for the trip. Go Hornets!

  2. Metcalfe County (10-0) plays host to Washington County (3-7) Friday night in Edmonton in the first round of the 2A playoffs. On paper this seems to be a lopsided victory for the Hornets but that's why they play the game and no one should be overlooked in a one game scenario. The two teams share two common opponents: Adair County who Metcalfe beat 23-0 while Washington lost 24-20 and KCD who Metcalfe beat 29-28 while Washington lost 40-21. The Hornets are riding high after an undefeated regular season and I expect them to keep rolling Friday night and win relatively comfortably. Looking forward to the start of the playoffs. Safe travels to all making the trip Friday night.

  3. Metcalfe gets the shut out victory tonight to move to 8-0 for just the second time in school history. The offense was a bit sluggish tonight with penalties and a couple injuries that will hopefully be minor ones moving forward. The defense was dominant all night. All in all coming off a bye week and a big district matchup next week I’ll take a victory.

In 2007 they were as good as anyone in the state in AA. They lost a tough game by less than 10 to FC who went on to win the championship. I think what cost them the game against FC was lack of depth they had very few players and played about everyone both ways.

It was a stretch of about 8 minutes in the third quarter. Fc scored twice on third and long both times I believe. That was a very good Hornet group though.

  5. Metcalfe County hosts Monroe County for homecoming Friday night in Edmonton. The Hornets are coming off a 39-22 victory over Edmonson County, while the Falcons are coming off a 30-0 loss to Todd County Central. Metcalfe is 6-0 for the first time since 2007 and looking to go 7-0 for the first time since 2003 and only the second time in school history. Monroe County is playing a bunch of talented youngsters much like Metcalfe did a few years ago. I look for Metcalfe to look sharp on homecoming and win big. Thoughts?

  6. A little sloppy from the Hornets tonight. Two lost fumbles, penalties, and a few dropped passes kept the running clock away til the third quarter. Metcalfe was without starting QB Mason Estes tonight. Defense was solid. All in all, can’t complain too much about a running clock district win. On to the next one. Best of luck to Clinton County.
