Clay Co isn’t like the good ole days when Bobby Keith roamed the sidelines. The man was a great coach and I thoroughly enjoyed watching his teams in the Sweet 16.

I disagree, not totally open. Yes a handful of teams but probably closer to 3, you have to really have an identity or a go to guy that can control tempo. There close games lately each one of those teams have a guy like that. North has Reed. Conner and Campbell have the Hamiltons, and Lloyd has two D1 kids that on their best night can play with anybody. And Cooper defensive identity can keep them in it with anyone sometimes. But to act like CCH still isn’t pretty heavy favorites would be foolish. I’m taking them over the field no doubt!
Couldn’t agree more with you. CovCath is still the heavy favorite.

Very sad to see how low the Bulldog program has gone. Enrollment numbers have contributed to lack of talent roaming the halls in addition to bad coaching too.

Should have hade faith in Brad Carr.
Yeah-in his time at Holmes he had the two worst seasons in Holmes history. Not sure how anyone could have faith in him

I got a report that it was 15-7 at halftime.
That’s worse then sad. Just horrible!

Well it’s two teams who play very slowed down defensive orientated games. But I will say that both teams didn’t shoot the ball well at all.
Basically boring basketball. That makes sense now on the score.

Sounds like the Colonels are as good as advertised as a top 3 team in the state.

I think it is so sad that a varsity boys basketball game has both teams get 32 and 30 points.

To me from what I have read and heard from good friends active in 9th region boys basketball, I will have to go with CovCath as the clear favorite. Someone could get hot and catch them on a very bad night, but I think it’s highly unlikely someone else goes to Lexington for the Sweet 16.

Looks like there might be some good teams in the 9th this year but can’t see anyone stopping CovCath from making another trip to the Sweet 16. Sad to say this but their district has become so weak since Holmes is no longer relevant.

#1 is not a KHSAA bylaw. It is a KRS statute. I mischaracterized it. Sorry for any confusion.
Sorry—actually my fault as I didn’t read the thread subject as closely as I should have.
With that being said, I am still gonna stick with my original statement that it will get challenged in court and my guess is that the court’s ruling will be in favor of the parent/student athlete. -

After a quick review, here are thoughts:
1. The new bylaw covers transfers in all grades, not just high school.
2. Under the new bylaw, if a student changes enrollment from one public school district to another, they either move to the new district or they sit one year - no exceptions.
3. There are some situations where the new bylaw does not apply. In those situation the KHSAA will continue to apply Bylaw 6.
4. A student living in a county with multiple schools districts will not be forced to sit one year by the new bylaw if they transfer to another school in the same district. Bylaw 6 will be applied.
5. The new bylaw does not apply to public to private transfers. Bylaw 6 will be applied.
Summary - The new bylaw tightens things up considerably on transfers from one public school district to another. If you do not actually move and live in the new district, you sit one year no matter what grade you are in with no exceptions. For transfers that are not from one public school district to another public school district, Bylaw 6 will be applied by the KHSAA.
If you are reading it correctly as I have not read it, your #1 will get challenged in court because the governing bylaws for the KHSAA can only be applied for athletes in grades 9-12. This was explained to me a few years ago by an attorney friend who’s firm has actually represented a few families of athletes in lawsuits against the KHSAA in the past.

Tell the defense to pressure the ball and get in the passing lane. When the offensive player tries to go back door, then open up and slide.
You make valid points.
But let’s look at this way; let’s make the team with the ball actually execute a play to score rather than them just playing keep away from the other team. I think you’ll find more true basketball fans would rather agree with this point of view. -
Not sure Phil Jackson could make a difference at Holmes these days. A coach can only be successful by the talent on the team and unfortunately the talent pool has run dry for the Bulldogs due to the major decrease in enrollment. Some will say I’m wrong, but people at the school have told me the same thing.

I’ll have to disagree with that statement. At some point there will be another transcendental talent good enough to provide a winning culture. There are enough other talented kids in the city to provide the support if they see that transcending talent committed to Holmes. You get a player like Beetle and throw in a few other complimentary parts and you have the recipe. Will it be easy, especially as the teenage culture of Covington continues to deteriorate? No! But I think it’s possible. I guess in todays society it may be hard to keep a transcendental talent at Holmes when the opportunity presents its self to the catholic schools down the road.
Holmes has not been relevant in what 9-10 years? Have you seen any sign of that changing in the near future? The talent pool at Holmes is at an all time low. I, for one, would love for Holmes to be contenders again because the 9th region is so much better when Holmes is good, but I just don’t see that happening now or the foreseeable future.

Holmes is a tough job these days with enrollment being down compared to the glory days. Talent pool just isn’t there as much anymore. Holmes most likely has seen its last regional championship.

Perhaps the most memorable was the 1979 run by Lafayette, when the Generals lost just one game all year - in the district finals to Henry Clay.
They beat HC in the 11th region finals and won it all in the Sweet 16, finishing with just that one loss.
No question but what the best team in the state - by far - would have never hit the S16 hardwood had the district runner-ups been eliminated.
1979 Lafayette lost to Tates Creek in district finals.

Anyone know if a district runner up team has ever won state?
Yes—1979 Lafayette team with three first team all state players. Minniefield, Junior Johnson and Tony Wilson.

Feel GRC will win but I have good friends from Bracken and will be rooting for the Polar Bears!

IMO: player can never ever push an official. If this player is an underclassmen his playing career should be over. No room in basketball to tolerate any intentional physical contact from a player on an official.

He did for 5 state tournament appearances, but Bobby Keith also had other really good teams in the tournament too.
