I have been following Bluegrass preps since my oldest was in high school. I comment here and there but to be honest I have never witnessed any adults talking about a kids faith.  I'm Chasity Harney.  When you start attacking my son's faith and my families faith this becomes personal.  Why not go to scott? Because Cov. Cath. Is where he was going to go.  He has been at St. Pius since 3rd grade.  He is not shopping around schools, he understands, the grass isn't always greener, and he knows he is taking a big chance.  He doesn't expect anything to be handed to him and he will continue to work his butt off like he always has.  He did not make this decision over night.  Yes, he has been reaching out to his priest from St. Pius(so that was all true).  He wanted to know how to pray when deciding between two good things.  To me, as a mom, this makes me more proud than any sport or accolade he has received. He loves Beechwood, We love Beechwood, it was an amazing experience for Cash.  Did he face some adversity yes, but we learn from that and move on.  I hope all of this can be put aside and focus on what both of these schools have to offer!

Has Neff ever coached football? Not sure of his background or what’s on his resume.

Makes perfect sense, Neff is already part of the program, he is young and invested, would also allow all the current coaches to stay on, therefore the program doesn't miss a beat and continue on the same path.  Ask every player. I would 100% think it would be unanimous that every player would want him for their coach!

From what I recall my son saying, Rash always took time away after the season. And keep in mind that Beechwood has a full time on staff strength coach for weights and conditioning. That leads me to my next two cents.

Talked to my boy last night, asked him his thoughts on Rash’s replacement. He said Dad, only one guy could do what Rash did and he’s already on staff. The aforementioned strength coach Logan Neff. Said all the players love him, would run through a wall for him, and he would continue the tradition that Rash and others started years ago.

Thought that was an interesting take, from someone who spent time in the locker room recently. Will be interested to see how it plays out for sure. But one thing is for sure, to follow in Rash’s footsteps, you will need to be situationally savvy, inspirational, available, mentoring to all, on site all day, and a leader. From seeing him develop my son how he did, Neff checks all of them. And with a background from UC football, may make this whole process a little more interesting……..

Could not agree more! Definitely there for ALL athletes. Such a great mentor as well...

There's been some debate about this (not much locally of course).

Should you give the tournament MVP to a player who breaks game and tournament scoring records but whose team did not win the tournament (Jacob Meyer of Holy Cross).

Or should you give the MVP to a player who leads the tournament champion in scoring every game (Christian Doerr of Evangel Christian).

Meyer won MVP. Evangel Christian won the tournament.

I have no dog in this. I'm just interested in knowing if anybody believed Doerr should have been named MVP (he was named all-tournament) even though Meyer's credentials were obvious. Or is Meyer's performance so historically stupefying that's it's kinda dumb to even bring this up.

Bottom line give it to the best player on the court!!

  5. Shepard also gets recognition because of his name and he committed to UK .  Shouldn't it be taken into consideration that Evan ipsarro has out played him everytime they have competed.

Now, as far as Jacob Meyer... he is on a different level.  Scores in high volumes.  Both he and Evan can completely take over a game and change the outcome.  Not saying Shepard can't... but has he???

Mr Basketball should be between two 9th Region players.. their stats speaks for themselves.

Beechwood did not have a very good offensive game (testament to Mayfield)…but QB missed some very open receivers that could have broken this one open (he’s young). However…their defense won the game for them! Impressive to play poorly and still win. Hats off to Mayfield! Devastated less than a year ago and come close to knocking off Beechwood tonight. Impressive! This game had all of the old school feels!!!

Beechwood's defense and O line is just simply the best. I would put them up against any team in any class. So happy for Austin Waddell MVP.

Just piggy backing on your statement.    Will Harney get a shot at QB spot next year?

Beechwood sophomore QB Clay Hayden’s numbers in four playoff games:

    41-54 passing - 75.9% completion %

    12-1 TD to INT ratio

    827 yards

Suffice to say, young Hayden has been beyond outstanding this year.

Didn't a freshman start the year? Played first 5 games against some pretty tough opponents. How will he fit into the equation in the future?

  8. I believe Cash Harney can be dynamic too if given the opportunity.  I have seen him play, he is capable of way more than he showed.  The coaching staff being cautious with him being a 14 year old and stepping into this role.  He more than proved himself against the toughest part of Beechwoods schedule.  I would have loved to see what he could have done against Holy Cross, Lloyd and now Newport.  I think fans will soon find out in playoffs that being a Qb is much more than just "slinging the ball" either way I wish both QB's success because they are both talented in their own ways.

  9. Only wish we could have seen what Hayden could do against Fairdale, Sk, and Cov. Cath. Upcoming schedule is night and day until playoffs. Getting reps against HC  (no offense to HC) doesn't compare to what he will be going up against in playoffs or would have gone against by playing the first 5 games of the season.  Wishing him nothing but the best, just saying.

I agree the Beechies better not put their eggs in one basket, saw what happened when they did that before.  Should be developing both qb's.

Congratulations to Ryle and ALL of their players. Is it just me or would these 14 and 15 year olds be better served without adults telling them how great they are and that they’re the next big thing?  The social media hype around children, by adults, is gross at times. Let them play, develop and go about it without a target on their back and inflated ego in their heads. And we wonder why so many kids transfer these days.

    💯% Agree.

Starts on Friday's each week. No Freshman played on Friday against Simon Kenton. Highlands had a kid last year in James who only had 2 quarters available come the Freshman game later in the week against Beechwood and the Staff decided to sit him out all together. They could of used him for those 2 quarters. They lost the game and their RB to a Collarbone injury and then didn't have a True RB to finish. I'm guessing the Coaching Staff is well aware of Quarters played and Quarters available and that won't happen again. At least this year they have Depth at RB on the Freshman level. But to answer your question, quarters start on Friday Night.

Is this the reason you guys lost to Beechwood?

I am just interested how the offense will look. I know that it will be very heavy running game while Clay is healing up but I would still like to see them open it up a bit regardless who QB's. I know if they want they can run it every play of the game and still be very successful in this game. I hope Cash plays and gets a chance to air it out. Beechwood will be good once Clay comes back because he is going to be a heck of a QB for the next 3 years. The defense is going to be so fun to watch this year. They are all a year older and this defense flied to the ball last year so I can imagine how good they will look this year. I am ready for kick off on Saturday!!!!

If you were a true Beechwood fan you would be hoping that the freshman QB is successful as well. Both QB's bring a completely different game.

Beechwood is likely to slide back even more after this year, and Holy Cross after Jake Meyer is a bit of a crap-shoot with a young coach and not a ton in the pipeline on the boys' side, so that 2nd ticket to the 9th Region tourney appears to be doable if Tony can get the kids to come out and stay invested.

Why do you think Beechwood will slide back after this year?

As others with more insight than I have pointed out above, I find it very hard to believe Starks was blocked from playing football by the basketball coaches. Too many basketball players have played football and other sports at CCH. People call tell all the stories they want but I prefer to believe what I see with my own eyes. I see basketball players playing football. Fact. If someone tells a different story, my inclination is that person has no clue and is just speculating at best. If it were me, I would question that person as a source going forward. I surely would not be repeating any story they told me.

On top of all that, let's say the basketball coaches did say no football. If Starks goes ahead and plays football anyway, does anyone think the basketball coaches would turn him away when he shows up for basketball after football season?
