  1. One thing that makes places like Marshall, or just any places where winning isn't the norm, is that it is really hard to build out a staff. You will absolutely find people who want to coach, that isn't the problem, but it is hard to find people who really know their stuff from a football perspective.

McCracken County, once a top ten team in 6A, is out in the wilderness. They need to get their compass and find their way out of the wilderness. Score of this game indicates they aren't even close to getting out of the wilderness.

Previous regime really hurt McCracken, the numbers just ended up being far below where they need to be for a 6A program.

I mean that’s literally the only way. And we used to do that a lot. Either join a bowl or some kind of kick off event. I know we went to warren central some time ago and more recently had the games with the Memphis school. But once you start winning those games consecutively the invites stop. I’m not implying we are unstoppable but a lot of teams on this side of the state don’t want to play mayfield first game of the season when you’re feeling stuff out. I wish I was on the inside so I knew if we actually got invited to bigger better competition out there but I’m not. I just don’t see a 5-6 hour trip first week to a Louisville,Lexington or Northern school very viable right off the back. You BW and LCA guys are lucky you have real solid comp right in your backyard. Unfortunately they’re all scared here.

McCracken County totally falling apart really hurt Mayfield, that was consistently good team on the schedule form 2013-2019.

Both teams either lost early or were missing a few key players. Really gritty performance from Owensboro Catholic after a heart breaking loss last week to Union County. This was an amazing atmosphere and high school football game to watch in person. Good thing for Owensboro they get to get in their district play and will be able hopefully work on opening up the offense against lesser competition. For OC, the next two games will be extremely tough road games: at CAL who looks like the best team in 3A and at at Hancock County who has a really good team this year and is a tough place to play.

Paducah Tilghman would probably disagree with CAL being the best 3A team.

I did and I misspoke.  Not issue with school, with decision.  Like I said, Smith is a good coach.  A good coach with a decent floor.  That is my issue.  Smith will win 5-7 at McCracken.  He will not take them to the next level.  From watching him at Paducah, I believe the ceiling is low.  That's just my opinion; and yes I know what they say about opinions.

I think we don’t have a super fair judgment about his time at PR though, because they were pretty good for 2 years, and then 1 year they were pretty bad but he also had a lot of outside pressure on him that final year which is what ultimately lead to Smith stepping down.

Not at Smith; great coach.  More towards the Board and School.  He was picked because he was supposedly the safest option and would take the program to a .500%+ win percentage immediately. Close, a name PT kids would also know, and experienced. I was ok with their pick; I completely disagreed with their logic behind it though.

I don’t think the school had a ton of options because of how late in the process the job came open, as well as the state of the program was way down if you asked anyone around the team.

I think the Boyle offense will only get better as the season progresses. Remember Dawson is just getting settled back in, playing QB. They have a lot of weapons on offense depending on the type defense they are facing. Haddix is so creative in his play calling and I don't think we have seen that much yet because we haven't needed to show a lot in these first three games. The real scary part for opponents is that this really good defense will only get better. Face a good 6A team in Henderson County next.

I’m sure there could be a book written on the subject, but what happened to Danville. Just a few years ago they were beating Mayfield in back to back state title games, but it appears the fall off has been steep.

It’s a long story and I only have second hand knowledge. Local millionaire didn’t get his way at McCracken so he took kid and like 30 other kids and certain coaches to Paducah when they were in middle school. Buys turf field, indoor facility, uniforms, etc.

Theres more to the story I’m sure, but that’s the gist of what I have gathered.

This is the best way of putting the story in short, GC is right there is a lot more to the story, but none of it is particularly meaningful since it all happened about 3 years ago now.

    Wow Boy!

    Congrats Graves!

How many games can McCracken County realistically win this year?

They still have South Warren, Daviess County and Henderson County which they don't have a good chance in.  Any easy games?

They have 3 chances in my eyes, Apollo, Marshall, and Christian County. I’m not sure I would pick them in any of those games, Christian and Marshall, but they way they have looked 0-10 and a trip to Trinity are looking increasingly likely.
