Exactly. Rick Pitino wouldn't win at those schools Chris was previously at. He won at Ballard because they had better players than everyone else. He will win in the 8th because Oldham is going to have probably the top four in talent go to that school. Just like they always have. It does not matter who coaches them.
-
They absolutely will with Renner. They also have under Hoggard, Forrest, Holland, and Coach Z. They also would have under Leslie if he stuck around longer. Point is, anyone that coaches at OC will at some point win the 8th multiple times.
-
Nothing against Renner or any coach for that matter. We just have to stop coach worship at any level really. I have said it before and it is a hill I will die on. If Renner had the Carroll County roster for those 24 seasons we more than likely are not talking about what a great hire this is.

Record is something like 52-147 when not coaching Ballard. The available athletes is FAR and away more important than the guy on the sidelines.

The eighth will always come down to OC, Collins, Woodford with some surprise appearances by SO. Sure you will have your once in a generation team from one of the small schools (Spencer last season)and some semi competitive teams elsewhere but the bottom half of the region are just playing to make the regional tournament. Not that that is a bad thing, it is quite an accomplishment.

Oldham would have been fine with just about any coach. Wonder how many new Oldham Countians show up.

Give me Grant by double digits.

People act as though SK always has a ton of talent to compete in this region. I agree SK should get out of the district every year, but expecting them to win the region every year is silly. They had the talent to do it this year, but the 8th is loaded. South, Collins, and OC are all just as talented, if not more so.
Couldn't agree more. SK has two really good players and South has several.

Best coach is a silly debate. Most coaches do well when they have good players. Give the coach at Little Sisters of the poor the roster of Male or Ballard and we would be talking about what a good coach they are.
-
That is nothing. Go to any game involving one of the Oldham Schools playing eachother. Those kids would make a sailor blush.

A shot clock has pros and cons that have been listed. I said this last year about this same time that I am against it from the clash of styles of play perspective. A team that wants to get 70 vs. A team that wants to get 40.

I think foul trouble is going to most certainly happen when these two teams meet. Both do a lot of grabbing, bumping, and holding on the defensive end.
Not that it is a bad thing, I love physical play but whistles do happen from time to time.
-
How much does the apparent departure of Hawley hinder Collins chances, in regards to depth.

I agree. These are high school players. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, High school players are like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are going to get.

You can make a case for any of those top players for POY, I would agree with any winner, Mcknight, Morrison, a healthy Powell, Vail, Conley. No sane person could disagree with a selection of any of these boys.

Best High School game I have seen all year. Not for the faint of heart, the officials let these two teams beat the doo doo out of eachother. Not complaining, just an observation. I do not have a dog in the fight but the Turner and Scribner (spelling) kids each deserved a game ball. They both made timely shots and kept Collins afloat. Would not be at all surprised to see these two tangle again in New Castle, but a long way to go before we crown anybody.
-
I will go with a 72-64 final. 72 wins.
-
Powell is a tremendous high school player but , and most of you will disagree but Powell isn't the best player in his own district. Multiple coaches both current and retired would agree with that.
-
Ballard was down 17-5 about 4 minutes into the game and then they went off.
-
Saw where Powell shot 16 foul shots. Were they late in the game?

Should have refunded admission fee.
I can imagine. Sounds like an old fashioned Joe B. Hall vs. Digger Phelps game
Chris Renner is the new coach at Oldham County

Oldham County opened in 1953 and doggone it if they didn't win the eighth in their second year of existence in 1954. Oldham has averaged winning the region once every 4 seasons roughly. (Including I believe a run of 5 in a row in the late 80's early 90's.) I expect that to continue whether with Chris Renner, John Wooden, or Adolf Rupp or Joe the plumber. Only thing is like I said in an earlier post, let's see how many "new" Oldham Countians we have.
