  1. I don’t think it is going to be a battle with Beechwood. They lost a lot from last year! Cov Cath reloads from last year! With Beechwood everyone on their schedule will face guard and box and 1 Draud. They will make others on Beechwood roster beat them! Unless I am missing something with Beechwood’s roster.

Last year in Regional tournament Cov Cath faced guard and box 1 Draud and look what was the final outcome of the game!

  2. I got to watch Chandler play this summer for the Orangemen. He’s a complete monster. Defense is ahead of his offense at the stage but when you watch him play it’s hard to believe this kid is 14 years old. I have heard the Fredrickand Starks family is close so no surprise he’s at Covington Catholic. As long as Scott Ruthsatz is at The helm high level players will continue to want to play for the best coach in Kentucky.

  3. After watching several scrimmage this summer for Cov Cath. My end of the summer prediction for the Rotation:

    Top 7:

    Disken, Murphy, Green, Moser,Starks, Stocks,Hauptmann

    8-10

Jackson, Mchale, Sommerkamp fighting to get in 8-10 spots.

Didn’t see Horn enough to predict where he is going to be! They will have a deep bench.

  4. With some changes in the region I will change my rankings.

    1) Cov Cath- A lot of talent. Will continue to win.

    2) New Cath- New Coach that will turn around New Cath. Big question will be how long he will stay.

    3) Conner- Good Coach, with some talent. The rest of the teams in the district will be down.

    4) Beechwood- Lost a lot and lost a lot of size. A lot of teams will take advantage of It. They do have Draud( They will see a lot of Box and 1 next year and Triangle and 2).There chances of winning the region was last year.

  5. Last night I went and watched Cov Cath scrimmage. Came away very impressed. The following is what I saw:

    1) Chandler Starks is going to be a issue the next four years! It’s scary that he is just a freshman!

    2) The new 7”0 player that recently move from out of town due to parents job. Did a lot of good things last night( ran the floor, dunked a few and had a few 3’s

    3) They could play 11/ 12 deep this year

    4) They still have Coach Horn’s kid moving in from Texas.

    5) Grant Disken had a really good summer. He is the key to how far they go! During the scrimmage played hard.

  6. The first call they need to make is to Joe Frederick(would be the best fit). Best assistant coach in the state! What they have done at Cov Cath is unreal! 4 regional titles, 2 state championships and 1 final four with a winning percentage 81%.

They need to change things over there. New Cath record the last few years has been really bad.

From what I understand Joe is retiring at the end of the year from is job. He wants to spend more time with his Mom.

With the connections to New Cath and Frederick family this is a home run hire.

  7. Joe’s best friend and mentor was his father and grandfather. His dad was a graduate of New Cath and Notre Dame. I could see Joe interested in New Cath because the Fredrick’s have New Cath blood. From what I understand it’s something his dad always wanted. Joe would kill it at New Cath. Those in the inner circle at Cov Cath would tell you he does a ton for the program and school. From what I understand Joe always wanted to be a head coach.

  8. Who do you guys think will be the favorite in the 9th next year?

I believe Cov Cath might be the favorite for the 9th Region and for states

I went to Covington Catholic last night and watched them play against two schools from Ohio. Also spoke with a former college coach and he also was impressed how well Cov Cath looked. They are also waiting on two additions to the team as well (Horn coming from Texas).

    Things I came away with:

Grant Disken: Had a very good Junior year. Overall one of the top guards in NKY. Plays hard and shoots the ball well

Chandler Starks: Incoming Freshman. Will surprise a lot of people. Looked very good yesterday. Does everything right. Wouldn’t be surprised if you see him in the Starting 5 next year

Neal Green- Will start at the 5. Plays hard. Rebounds very good. Tries to dunk everything.

Donovan Stocks- Junior didn’t see much playing time last year. Improved a lot from last year. Will see a lot of minutes next year.

Reece Murphy- Had a good Sophomore year on JV. Could see minutes as a back up to Grant
