  1. I disagree with this. I agree that Vinson is very good, and likely the best player on the floor last night. If HHS won, he would have been the MVP. But, they lost. Vinson and team could not get over the hump. And, CCH did win, and Neil was the most valuable productive player on their team over the course of the tournament.

You can't fault Neil for the talent that is around him, and where they would be if he wasn't there, just like you can't build Vinson up, just because his team isn't as deep or talented as CCH.

CCH won so their most valuable player gets the award. That simple.

With your logic, I could argue that DaeShawn White or Gavin Rabe or Ian Snelling should have won. Where would their teams be without them???

Sam Vinson had the biggest impact and the best stats in this tournament and was one possession away from winning it. Neil had zero points at halftime. They should change the name of the award to "most valuable player on the winning team". In 1969 Jerry West won finals MVP on the losing side, and in 2015 LeBron was a few votes shy of winning despite losing. Obviously a different league but there has been evidence of this occurring.

  2. Says a lot for a TEAM when the 9th Region MVP has 0 points at Half, and really couldn’t buy a shot tonight and they still gutted out a win against a viable opponent. That was a fun game to be at, and the intensity of the game was the best I’ve seen in awhile.

I think you could argue Sam Vinson deserved 9th region MVP. They rarely ever give it to a player on the losing team but when you look up the true definition of valuable Vinson definitely fits that. Take Vinson off of Highlands where are they? Take Green off of CCH where are they? Just a thought. Congrats to Cov Cath!

  3. Congrats to the Raiders doubling their win total from last year with 12 wins despite losing their best player in 10 years to graduation and 2 starters that switched schools. Injuries down the stretch hurt them or things may have been better. Congrats to Anthony Caggiano on his All Region selection! Good building blocks for Coach Belcher.

I would like to see the Raiders have a harder schedule next year to prepare them. Of the Raiders 12 wins, they only beat three 9th region teams. Ryle should be even better next season. I’d would say they are early favorites for the 33rd district next season in my opinion.

  4. No.

    NO

    N.O.

So a kid hangs on to his get outta jail free card til his senior year and decides he wants to join someone better?

What if a bunch of AAU kids (especially in Louisville, Lexington or NKY) want to join the hot new hire?

Then let them do it. It’s allowed at a much easier rate at every other level. I grew very fascinated with what Joe Burrow did for LSU this year in football and it made me think what if he was never allowed to transfer? If players from an AAU program want to team up and play together I do not see a problem with that if all the parents are on board. Fans like to see great teams, obviously you would like to see kids stick it out but there are free college educations on the line for some of these families. To withhold them from that is unbelievable and wrong to me. Just my opinion.

  5. Kids only go through High School once and it can really sets their path for the future. Not all systems are perfect fits and many kids miss out on opportunities due to being in bad situations out of their control. That’s why I really think every student athlete should get one granted transfer. If it’s really about the kids and looking out for their best interests. I know nothing about this situation but from what I’ve seen on Twitter the kid in question was really happy at his new school, which he has been at all school year. Why is the KHSAA just now ruling him ineligible? That’s the real shame part in all this!!! Another situation where a kid is punished for trying to do better for himself.

I totally agree. There are way too many great examples on how a player transferring benefits them so much. If the parents allow it and they move inside that particular district I do not see a problem. Just my opinion.

  6. Yes, and you used the talent on her team to question her coaching ability. My point is no coach wins without talent.

You still have to win. Is coach Cal not a good coach or does he just have talent. I dont know what more Haitz has to do. Not one of her top players has ever left the program. Scherr only glows about her in her interviews. Schwartz has had a great year at Rice University, so Coach Haitz definitely got her prepared and played a key role in developing all of these girls. The other coaches in the 9th voted her COY last year. I would not be surprised if I saw some top colleges asking about her availability once her top tier talent leaves.

  7. Ryle has surrounded Maddie with several really nice shooters, not just Brie. The thin freshmen that had 3 or 4 treys in the first half can really stroke it. Also, #24, while a little sideways and funky in her motion, can also knock 'em down.

I think the big off the bench, Grant maybe, she is going to be important in the post-season. They need her to be able to hold her water on both ends.

Love Lind for Cooper, great size, very skilled, and going to be very, very good. Logan Palmer (8th grade?), played very, very well. Those two, and the two Friehofer girls, wow, the future is bright for the Jags.

Maddie is not having the numbers I thought she was going to put up this season. But her impact on the team is the biggest I have seen in a long time. Maddie is so unselfish and could honestly average 25ppg if she wanted. I even believe Brie is averaging more points. Exciting times for the Raiders!
