Great game by the Bluebirds. Well coached and had every chance to win. Missed shots down the stretch that would have made the difference, but the game was there for them. They represented NKY well this weekend!

Here is my thoughts on this from another thread. Wheeler is a great shooter, one of the best I’ve seen in awhile, but for Miss Basketball I’m less convinced after watching her. She is very one dimensional. Her drives and floaters were below average and she lacks the height needed to finish well. She is not relevant on the boards. Had decent handles but didn’t see the floor well, just dribbled in circles a lot. She will not be able to do that at the next level. That being said, her team won the tourney and she can shoot as well as any girl I’ve seen in awhile. Certainly deserves to be in the conversation.

Would like to see King play. Schwartz should be in the conversation and if Ryle wins state she could be the winner. Only seen Harrison in the summer so that’s not a great picture. But same for her if GRC wins state.

Can we stop calling Mercy #1 bc the coaches preseason poll in the courier had them there?

Lexington Herald also has them #1. Both are coaches voting polls. I realize BGP did not have them there, but BGP is just a few select voters, correct? I think until the coaches have a new vote they should officially get that title. Just my opinion.

Do the coaches do a second voting for the media at some point? Or is that over until post season?

Simon Kenton should get ranked now after their showing this weekend. They are a top 20 team.

I’m super disappointed in SK after this game. SK seemed super disinterested in this game. Starting with the coaches. SK played awesome against Mercy beating the #1 team in the state. Then had a hard fought game with Highlands. They can compete with anyone including Ryle. But the game seemed over in the first quarter. I have seen Stowers coach enough to know he has his own personal and unique style. But like I said, I was disappointed greatly in how this game went after SK showed such great stuff throughout the rest of the tourney. I was totally expecting SK to come out and give Ryle a great game.

Can you elaborate? Would not think a three point shooting team would match up well with Ryle? They would just man up and not leave Wheeler to help? Bad ref calls against ryle too?

Can’t blame refs for a loss when your supposed to be the best. But losing Scherr seemed to shift the momentum. Watched this game plus the finals. Considering Highlands close score and holding Boyd to 61 points and from what I saw, it was coaching. Ryle seemed to never settle on a defense that would work. Highlands was steady the whole game, kept it close or was winning. Ryle was significantly more talented team than Boyd but for some reason let Boyd keep doing what they are great at, shoot threes.

I meant to say Oldham County is “now one of the 4-5 teams that could win the 8th”

Oldham County has solid wins over Anderson County and Holy Cross. Only losses are Male and Conner. This has to have surprised most in the 8th region. They are not one of 4-5 teams that could win the 8th region.

Strong road win for the Lady Bearcats

Good solid W last night at home.

Let’s be honest. The 9th region is one of the top regions in the state. Either the 9th or the 7th region.

 

Teams from the 8th or 10th (besides GRC and maybe SK a little) are not at the same level as the top 3-4 Ninth region teams.

Simon Kenton beat Dixie pretty good. Dixie is #4 in the ninth?

Always been tough for Grant County girls to excel in the post season. There have been years whe they were top five or six in the region but Walton and Simon were 1,2, or 3.

Unfortunately this year will not be different. Both SK and Walton are good this year.

For sure SK in this one. MC has a decent team this year but I think they’re not ready for the best teams from the 8th.

Great year for the 8th region girls this year! Oldham County, SK, Walton, Grant, Anderson County. Great competition, should be great games.

Any details on this game? Seen Dixie play this year and they seemed really good. A little surprised by the score? Was it a close game?

 

Congratulations to Ally, she was a great high school player! Fun to watch!

Pioneers came out sluggish but were hot the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Up 17 going into the 4th, had the game pretty much wrapped up. SK looked good, Jones is a beast.

Grant County is for sure one a several teams that could take home the 8th region trophy this year. Coach West has done a great job and his daughter, Abby,is a great player!
