  1. Ryle has a realistic shot to win the next 5 on the schedule. They should beat Boone. Shelby is up and down, Scott may or may not have Ohmer, Holy Cross is reeling right now and Franklin County is winnable. End of season beating at the hands of Campbell looms as the only real lopsided matchup for the Raiders.

  2. Just for comparison purposes over a 5.5 year period as above (I only did overall records):

    Goetz: 86-75 (53%)

    McQueary: 70-97 (42%)

    Otte: 34-42 (45%)

    Sullivan: 128-40 (76%)

    Ruthsatz: 172-30 (76%)

    Stainforth: 25-29 (46%)

    Listerman: 61-90 (40%)

    Carr: 6-14 (30%)

    Grammer: 6-12 (33%)

    Snapp: 104-71 (59%)

    Collopy: 43-36 (56%)

    Faust: 75-90 (45%)

Interesting. Grammer and Carr both 1st year guys. Schedules appear as if they will finish better than 37% and Ryle is looking very much like a 7-20 team. This would put Mcfarland in sole possession of the cellar. I hope in turns around for the sake of the kids.

  3. Glad people in “official” capacity are addressing it. Seems like schools are dropping the ball more often than not.

As critical as I am of the Ryle basketball program I give credit where credit is due. Jim Demler, the A.D. does a fantastic job of "parent officiating" and nobody better than Nate Niemi calling fouls and T'ing up parents an fans while he was with us at Ryle. I think the Holmes staff does an excellent job as well.

  4. I think Conner is better then their record suggests. I expect them to go to the regional tournament and they could knock off an opposing district champion.

Ummm. There may not be a more certain outcome in the history of sports. Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson was more likely than Ryle or Boone beating Cooper.

  5. Certainly not trying to threadjack, but are there no comments about the loss to Holmes? Asking for a friend.

Rankin and Benton had their way offensively, Holmes is very small. Defensively, Ryle sat in a zone for the majority of the game. Holmes was surprisingly patient without Tico to run the show. Really close game until about 4 minutes left. Holmes pressed and gave Ryle some problems. Ryle guards dont score, rebound or defend very well. Zero depth and Holmes exploited it. Congrats to the 'Dawgs for winning in a way that didn't seem comfortable.

  6. I think this is true with every high school in the state. I think every school has kids that could be playing but they decide not to for Whatever reason. If kids don’t want to play, then they don’t want to play.

So using the rationale that every school has kids that dont want to play, were back to equal footing. All things being equal, Ryle has lost 100+ games in 5 1/2 seasons and starting another 20 loss season in the face. 33 people + 3 rows of students showed up to watch the Holmes game, it's getting really bad.

  7. Congrats to the Bulldogs. Good teams show up and play. The schedule is the schedule but using that as an excuse is a stretch. I would halfway understand if the game margin was say 8 points or less but to get beat by 19 points and to be down at some point by 30 as someone said by a team that on paper is supposed to be the better team is no more than simply being outplayed. If HC is that much better than Holmes then that margin should have been much closer then I might buy the fatigue (physical or mental) argument. This is no different for teams that make the Sweet 16 basically, you have to show up and play and teams don’t get nearly 3 days rest between games. The better team won that night and whether it’s an outlier or not is debatable and could be settled at district time.

Looks like the tough love is starting to work. Coach Carr is being tweeted about by his players They're buying in. I could be wrong, but it appears as if they believe he cares, not only about them as players, but as kids. Tez is a great example, "uncoachable" was the label by some. I've seen him twice this year. Kid can play, great demeanor and nothing but respect towards Coach Carr.

  8. I've watched the Raiders play multiple times. I don't think it is the coach's fault. He makes adjustments and his kids get a lot of open shots.

I'm not saying the kids are at fault, I'm just saying that I don't think the coach is.

I'm not sure I follow. It's not the coach, it's not the kids? It's bad basketball, period. Ryle has wayyy too many kids not playing. You could pluck 5 kids from the hallways not currently playing, have Dave Rankin or Scott Benton practice with them for two weeks and they would beat the current roster by 10 points. Coach Mcfarland knows basketball, but lacks any semblance of how to relate to his players. He has surrounded himself with people that agree with him, constantly shifts blame, does not accept responsibility for losing, is more concerned with the appearance of being a coach, says all the right things publicly, engages in false bravado in one on one situations. There is a clinical diagnosis for this behavior.

  9. This would be my Top 10 as of right now, with some comparative stats, and then an 11th who has an asterisk because of missed time.

    Alphabetically:

    1. Cody (Lloyd).....18.8 ppg / 10 rpg / 13 FGA per game / 22% of his team's shots

    2. Deere (Cooper).....13.4 ppg / 3 rpg / 10 FGA per game / 22% of his team's shots

    3. Disken (CovCath).....15.0 ppg / 3 rpg / 9 FGA per game / 24% of his team's shots

    4. Draud (Beechwood).....24.8 ppg / 5 rpg / 18 FGA per game / 33% of his team's shots

    5. Harding (Newport).....17.9 ppg / 11 rpg / 16 FGA per game / 25% of his team's shots

    6. Houston (Cooper).....11.7 ppg / 8 rpg / 9 FGA per game / 19% of his team's shots

    7. Mullikin (NewCath).....21.2 ppg / 10 rpg / 14 FGA per game / 26% of his team's shots

    8. Sisson (Highlands).....16.1 ppg / 9 rpg / 9 FGA per game / 21% of his team's shots

    9. Thelen (CovCath).....10.7 ppg / 5 rpg / 7 FGA per game / 17% of his team's shots

    10. Vieth (St. Henry).....19.8 ppg / 6 rpg / 14 FGA per game / 28% of his team's shots

    If he had played more:

    11. Scott (Conner).....16.1 ppg / 5 rpg / 12 FGA per game / 19% of his team's shots

Man, compelling arguments for several kids. Never even considered Cody. Hes having a nice season. If Newport continues the success they have had, IMO Harding would have to be the front runner.

  10. According to their record North Oldham is a below average 8th region team. What’s going on in Union?! Wow.

Ryle JV played majority of 2nd half, as did North Oldham, Coach Mcfarland bailed out at halftime. If you cant shoot, cant defend, play without passion and turn it over 20 times per game, you cannot win against an average team.
