  1. Saw this on Twitter last night, but Andy has "Gamekeeper's Thumb," which is interesting to say the least.

Gamekeeper's thumb is an insufficiency of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint of the thumb. [1] The injury occurred as the gamekeepers sacrificed game such as rabbits by breaking the animals' necks between the thumb and index finger of the gamekeeper and the ground. As a result, a valgus force was placed onto the abducted metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint, leading to a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injury and chronic attritional injury that resulted in instability, which was accompanied by pain and weakness of the pinch grasp.

    So his thumb hurts...got it.

  2. You are talking about two well established small school programs with a history of success and two larger schools without a real history of success.

Dayton has to compete with a plethora of very successful larger programs (Highlands) as well as schools like Newport Central Catholic. Let alone it is a demographic of less and less families with high school age kids moving into the area and more and more young families with either young children or no kids at all.

And with the success Campbell County is having along with their increasing academic scores, the standouts have choices

  3. I would like to agree with you, but it just happened with a N. Ky. basketball player.

I’m guess it can happen from time to time especially if that student has an opportunity to really stand out and possibly gain scholarship opportunities. I would think baseball would be another sport where this may happen. But not on a consistent enough basis to make a difference for that program.

  4. I disagree, Hazard and Williamsburg both routinely pull kids from their respective larger County schools over football. You aren't going to pull a star from a big school, but a kid that might be third string at a school like Highlands might be interested in being a starter on the smaller level. In 1A ball if you can get 35 kids that are decent football players you can be very competitive. My guess is what Dayton has now with the addition of 10-12 kids could completely flip the program.

Trying to be delicate...no parent is going to allow their kid to transfer to a school who’s academic numbers and graduation rates are lower to play football.

  5. I would think a Dayton is a job where the right fit could really succeed. A lot of kids in NKY that I’m sure would love to see varsity minutes, if you can get a few second and third stringers from other districts over you could become competitive in a hurry. 1A football requires a lot fewer kids to compete.

Not trying to be cruel or anything but Dayton isn’t exactly the type of school or program that is going to pull anyone from anywhere. Most Single A schools are like that though. You play the kids who live in your area. Dayton, Bellevue, and a few others are up and coming but they are not Beechwood.

  6. The KHSAA's Consecutive Wins list only goes through last season, but Cov Cath's current streak of wins is at 29 and will put them on it.

That is an impressive list and some good company to be in.

  7. Campbell county doesn’t have 2 teams in Northern Kentucky top 5. Kenton has 3. No way would they be better.

You can’t really look at this on a team to team basis. You would have to break it down position by position if the teams would be combined. Look at QBs in Kenton County alone. You have a few guys that can flat out play but they all can’t play at the same time.

  8. Saying Casey only comes around once in a generation is strong. He may be the all time leading rusher, but that does not mean he was their best. He is in the conversation.

I am not going to get into next year and beyond at the risk of hijacking this thread. Good win Colonels.

With the changes coming to 5A next year and the fact it looks like CovCath is just going to reload instead of rebuilding...will be an interesting thread once it gets started.

  9. For all the fans that wanted to put it all on the Cov Cath’s Sophomore QBs shoulders, well you got it. Highlands loaded the box to shut down McGinness, and left it up to the passing game. He connected with Mayer for the first TD, only to open the running game. He threw 1 pick at the end of the 1st half that meant nothing. After that they threw and ran at will. The Birds had a great season. Great kids on both sides of the ball. Love the games, not so much the adults that bash the kids and teams. Just my opinion.

Young man stepped up big last night. Any first game jitters that may have been there were gone after about 3 minutes into the game. CovCath is the real deal. Good Luck moving forward.

  10. Team sport is correct. CCH clearly has the better team. Top to bottom, which why the clock is running!

CovCath was the much better team tonight. Poor play calling doesn’t help but not sure it would have mattered much. But I stand by what I said about this years teams and last years teams. Last years CovCath team would have won by 60 plus. Impressive performance. Thought Birds would keep them in the game but turns out CovCath defense was better.
