  1. If I wanted to I could go on and on about our 17 game win streak over PT, but the truth of the matter is 75% of the players on these rosters weren’t even born the last time Paducah won and they couldn’t care less about the past 17 years. Both teams want to win this game this year, period. I have the utmost respect for this rivalry regardless of the recent lopsided streak of outcomes. And I should actually backtrack and say the PT players probably actually do care about the past 17 years because they’re tired of hearing about how they can’t beat Mayfield. They are dying to beat Mayfield this year and will do anything they can to make it happen. Although I am confident in the Cardinals and think they will pull out the win by making less mistakes than PT, I am also secretly kinda shaking in my boots because regardless of opinions, PT has a stacked roster this year. With that being said, Mayfield also has an amazing roster this season. I just hope emotions are held under control Friday by players AND fans and it is a good clean game and may the best team win!

History may have been made in this game as Xavier is the 3rd generation of Biggers that have caught a touchdown pass and intercepted a pass for Mayfield and both have even been done against Hopkinsville...definitely D1 on either side of the ball and is proving to be a difference maker that will help increase Mayfield's chance of winning a state championship..

I just hope for that kid’s sake he gets the exposure he deserves this year and is seen by all the right people. He has kinda flown under the radar the past 3 years being stuck in Murray but man that kid can do it all. He was just made to play football.

  3. #2 Biggers for Mayfield needs to be put on the map for scouts. He can play at the college level. He is a lockdown corner on D and is electric on offense when he gets the ball in his hands. A Mayfield kid whose family finally moved him back home for his senior year after playing at Murray since 3rd grade.

Paducah Tilghman should win this game, and if they don't beat Mayfield this year, they may never beat them.

They should beat mayfield next year for sure, regardless of this years outcome. Mayfield will lose 17 seniors after this season and Paducah will return a lot including their two 4-star transfers, their QB, the Cleary kid amongst others. Also their 8th and 9th grade classes have been dominating Mayfield the past few years.

To me Mayfield playing such a weak schedule makes this calculation hard outside of head to head play.

I agree. I really wish Mayfield vs Johnson Central would’ve worked out. It sounded like it was going to but ended up falling through. Mayfield plays a very underrated Paducah Tilghman team next Friday and then they travel to Henderson County later in the season but I don’t think Henderson is near as good as they were last year. Other than that Mayfield plays no one until the playoffs.

And I am pretty sure VOR is talking about Mitchell Berger. The previous season, Mayfield could not stop him. The 2 seasons before that he played key roles in beating the 2 best teams of all time in LCA 2020 and LCA 2021. Pretty sure he could play at a high of level in college football (and is playing big time baseball).

Robinson obviously was very good ... but Berger was the best player on the field for Beechwood last year.

I know who he was talking about. But the kid didn’t play in the playoffs last year and he’s not on the team this year so he doesn’t even belong in this conversation unless he is trying to make the point that beechwood would’ve beat mayfield by more last year if they had him and that very well might be true. With that being said, Berger was a heck of a player and yes he absolutely terrorized Mayfield 2 years ago. All I’m saying is ALOT of people look at potential when ranking teams early in the season. Just look at the New York Jets. They’ve been awful for several years and now everyone is all over them because of who they added. To each their own though. I do enjoy going back and forth on these forums. Makes the week fun leading up to Fridays.

Beechwood lost their best player in the regular season and beat Mayfield without him. All three teams return most of their best players from last year's playoffs. Mayfield beat LCA and Beechwood beat Mayfield with most of the same players that are playing this year. That is why those playoff games should carry a lot of weight right now in the rankings. If I were a Mayfield fan I would be irritated that LCA is ahead of Mayfield. One opening week win is not a reason to jump LCA over them. LCA should be #3.

I was talking about the athlete they had going to wake forest. Nobody else on that field was going to a power 5 school. To each train of thought their own though. All I’m saying is if Mayfield wins the championship this year they should not be ranked number one next year with how much they lose. Teams differ from year to year. Should Bullitt East have been ranked number 1 in 6A to start the season. Not a chance.

Reading the posts in this thread, it looks to me like last year has no value. These top three teams did not turn over their whole roster. All three have a lot of returning starters. So why doesn't last year have any value?

It does have value but Beechwood literally beat Mayfield by an extra point so they were basically even. Beechwood lost their best player. Mayfield did not and they gained one of the best players on this side of the state. LCA has an incredible QB going to UK and added the best RB in the state from last year. This year is not last year, point blank. To my point, Mayfield will lose 17 seniors after this season including their QB, both RBs, top 3 receivers, kicker, amongst others. They will be nowhere near the team next year that they are this year.

So you would put the three time defending 2A champion at #3 behind the teams they have beaten in the playoffs the last three years?

Yes just because those teams were all very even last year in my eyes. And the two that didn’t win it gained key players. I’m taking nothing away from Beechwood by saying that, I’m just saying in my eyes the other two teams are more talented than them and should be better. Preseason polls and early season polls are just as much about speculation as they are “what did you do last year?” To me at least.

  10. My 2 cents (which means absolutely nothing) is that the preseason top 3 should have been:

    LCA

    Mayfield

    Beechwood

And I think it should still be that way after week 1. But that’s the fun in preseason polls and early season polls. They don’t mean anything but we still act like they do. Everything will sort itself out over the next several weeks and if it doesn’t, well then these teams have to face each other late in the playoffs and we will definitely see who the best team is then.

Gotcha.  Most NKY 7th and 8th grade teams play in the NKMSAA, with the exception of the 4 Boone County teams and Colonel Youth's 8th Grade "A Team".  And those NKMSAA Playoffs overlap the KY "Middle School" State Tournament.  I guess these 6th grade teams would be NKYFL teams?

I just saw this on the KY Middle School Football Association’s Facebook page. As of this morning, this is the list of schools participating in the statewide playoffs this year. More could be added if a schools coach or AD chooses to do so.

Yea the state playoffs aren’t universal across the state as other regions have their own playoffs. I know Mayfield 7th and 8th grade participate in the Southwest KY playoffs against teams like Owensboro, Hopkinsville, Christian County etc. But Paducah and McCracken that are in West KY participate in the statewide playoffs as does Bowling Green. I’m guessing the Louisville schools do their own thing too. So yes as of now it’s all over the place and there is no true state champion.
