There's no way Coach Sphire is on the hot seat. I can't see the school district wanting to relive the debacle they created during the past hiring process. Two of the top candidates that were NOT considered have gone on to be hired at tradition rich programs.

During my time in HR I always believed in hiring an up and comer. Not someone who's on the back 9 of his/her career.

Lastly, as an HHS fan for over 30 years, I am disappointed in the sideline actions. IMO there's far too many people. It should be limited to coaches, players, trainers and security personnel. Get rid of the folks that buy their way onto the sideline. And for goodness sakes tell the players to stop looking in the stands after every play urging the crowd to cheer. that's should not be your focus. Lineup and play football.

Is this something that will be horrible for the program with a slew of others looking elsewhere? Still see a lot of potential and talent on that field. Going to some practices along with the spring game there is a different swagger. Not sure why no one would want to be part of that. But the whole phrase that their is no "I" in team has some huge value.

I guess I'd prefer wins over swagger at this point. Not sure anyone fears playing the Birds anymore. Hopefully that changes.

I don't disagree with any of this, 100% accurate, and I love it.

But I also strongly disagree with making false promises to kids, which we all know happens, AND assistant coaches/adults calling out 14 year olds on twitter.  Not by name, but everyone knows who they are talking about, not a good look.

I hope all works out for these young men.  Go birds!!!

Idiotic for any coach at any level to call out players on a social media platform. If true, and I'm an administrator at HHS, I'm looking into this.

Highlands had to play 2 of those games in the district and beat them 105-0. And scored 60 in the third game. But I'm sure it just wasn't good enough....

I get it, you have to play who you have to play. I don't care how many points they put on the scoreboard as long as they win.

Give them a hamburger, they want a hot dog. 40 points a game last year isn't too shabby.

I get your point. However, the three consecutive games from 9-23 to 10-7 may have been some of the worst high school football I've seen in NKY in some time. Believe me I want all 6 state championship trophies to come to NKY.

My understanding is one committee member wanted hs head coaching experience over a college coordinator’s experience and was insistent on it. It swayed the committee and the right coach got away. Hopefully he won’t be involved if there’s any future committees.

You're spot on. It's my understanding there are quiet a few former players that played under Dale building their resume's to get a shot after this regime moves on.

I’m not sure what the process was, but Highland’s process was flawed. For sure  initially. And personally still think they hired the wrong guy for Highlands after the initial mistake. That doesn’t mean he’s a bad coach or a bad guy. Just not what Highlands needs imo.

Initially the process wasn't flawed. There was a committee of administrators, teachers, coaches and community members formed to conduct interviews and make a recommendation. Unfortunately, due to many on the committee having their own agenda, the committee dissolved and the former Principal and current AD began conducting interviews amongst themselves. Basically with time running out and pressure, they reached out to the current HC and he accepted the job after originally turning it down. However, you're correct I don't believe they hired best applicant for the job. The flaw was selecting people on the hiring committee that couldn't play well with others on the committee.

The difference in the game was turnovers. HHS had a punt blocked, two picks, a fumble and a lot of short fields for SC .Birds were down 14 in the first qtr.

Down 14 the Birds fought like pit bulls to get back in it. The Birds were one drive short at winning the game. Play calling on the last drive was terrible to say the least.

I just want to tell the Birds that I'm proud of them, they kept fighting until the end.

Might want to find a better OC before next season.

As longs as his Dad is the HC, the OC is going nowhere.

I will ask this question in response.  IS Bob Sphire a good coach or WAS Bob Sphire a good coach?  I am not sold on either to this point.  The team showed much better spunk on Friday until they got behind two scores and then the same old same old walk on and off field and hang head started for most.  Big return by Charlie Noon put some life back into the team.

Last thing, not sure how the staff has not come to realization that Charlie Noon is a PLAYER and needs to be on the field as long as he can stand up.  That could go for a few others as well.  Tired of seeing guys shuffled in and out for the sake of shuffling and not because they are tired or need to be coached up.  This is high school football and these guys have trained for this moment, let them play to the best of their abilities until they ask for a break.

You might be onto something in your second sentence. Can you imagine the chaos if the Camels upset the Birds!

This is not even close to being a fair statement.
Do you know if Sphire even originally applied for the position? And if he had applied was he in fact not the first choice?

I do. He did not originally apply. He was not the first, second or third choice. He was hired because of his connection to the current AD. The committee formed to interview and select a new coach disbanded within a week and left the hiring up to the AD and Princlpal (at the time). Thus creating this hire.
