  1. KHSAA bracket was updated today. Estill is now the 1 seed. Powell the 2. Powell had beaten Estill 4-1 but fell to Estill 5-3 in the 2nd game. KHSAA had updated their rules not long ago stating that each district ( seeded) would be based off the 2nd game of the regular season.

Am I misunderstanding this rule or wouldn't it make sence for coaches to pitch their aces in the 2nd District seeding game?

  2. I thought I would start a thread about some of the guys from NKY who are currently playing college ball on various levels. We can update here as you see/follow what they've done in current games.

Ethan Stringer (Beechwood) is hitting .222 on the season for Louisville and started the year with a 2-for-4 game against UCONN.

Cameron Ross (Conner) has thrown 6 innings this year for NKU. He's sitting with a respectable 3.00ERA.

Trey Bowden (Highlands) has 3 starts for NKU this year, and is hitting .182.

Trey Ollier (Cooper) has thrown 1.2 innings this year for NKU with an ERA of 5.40.

Joe Martin (Highlands) has thrown 4.1 innings for NKU this year and has an ERA at 6.23.

These are just the guys at bigger local colleges. Please add in some guys who are playing at the smaller colleges as well! It's fun to keep up with what these guys are doing in their baseball careers past high school!

Think it's Tyler Olier for NKU. Honest mistake with Trey Bowden above him.

I'm sure there are many more local players.

  3. Amazing game played by both teams.

Conner scored first with 17:29 left in the 1st Half.

Ryle ties it up with 13:09 left in the 2nd Half.

    Regulation ends tied 1-1.

No one scores in the 1st 5 minute OT.

No one scores in the 2nd 5 minute OT.

Ryle fails to score on their 1st PK shot, Conner fails on their 4th. 4-4 tie after the 1st round of PK's.

2nd round sees both teams make their 1st kicks, fail on the 2nd and make the 3rd.

Ryle makes their 4th kick, Conner has their 4th kicked blocked for the Ryle win but the Goalie was flagged for moving early and re-kick was issued and made by Conner to tie it again at 3-3.

Ryle's 5th kick was blocked, Conner's 5th kick is good and Conner advances to the 33 District Finals.

  4. How were the runs scored?

All of the scoring came in the 4th inning.

Sam Crigler with a hit up the middle, went to 3rd on a hit by Devin Eha that hit the 1st base bag and went into shallow right, scored on a throwing error back to the infield, Eha moves to 2nd. Gavin Pearson grounded out to SS moving Eha to 3rd. Justin Schlarman with a line drive that hits the infield lip and bounces over the first baseman, Eha scores. 3 of Coopers 4 Hits came in that inning.

  5. Fake news...

    Advanced in 09, 10, 11, and 14.

Beat St. Henry (09 and 14), Bellevue (10), Newport (11)

Before we go on about those 4 victories not being against the strongest opponents, let's keep in mind first round regional matchups (when you win your district) are against a district loser not within your own district. St. Henry and that Bellevue team (depending on who was on the mound) are not teams to overlook. (See the St. Henry upset of Ryle in round 1 recently)

Ryle was the District Loser in that game. St. Henry was the higher seed.

  6. There are similar situations at other nky schools. You can take the same thing written for cov cath and just change the coach name and school. Coaching techniques of 25 years ago do not match the game today or more importantly the players of today. All you have to do is look on twitter and see where coaches are posting about their team in an effort to help the kids get to the next level. They are doing that for the kids. I think some of these old coaches forgot that the game is for the kids to learn and grow as young men and prepare them for life. This involves encouragement and a coach that respects their players.

IMO this is one of the best paragraphs I've read on BGP!!

  7. Adavion Gulley from Holmes High School

    6’3” Lefty

Won’t get any props because of the school he plays for but find me another guy who was top 12 in HR and top 25 in state in extra base hits and plays 20+ games on a field 320’ down the lines and 375 dead center.

All the more reason he SHOULD play summer baseball. I don’t know the kid at all. He may have some other family or sporting obligations that won’t allow summer baseball

to fit into his schedule but I believe a player needs more than 35-40 high school games a year if they want to play college baseball.

  8. We thought the same on a camp. We figured if we spend 700 on a weekend for the travel food lodging and the camp and he walks away with an offer to go play ball then that was a great ROI.

We were right took the leap and the offer came.

Camps are a little more risky. Most of the time it’s only that school getting a look at the player where as multiple schools can see a player at a PBR event.

  9. I'm probably the odd man out with my comments but I don't mind the $200 fee's to a PBR event a couple times a year. I have to spend $300-$500 for a new bat every other year, $350 for a new glove, $200 for new spikes and turf cleats every other year, at least $100 on batting gloves for the season, plus $1000-$2500 ( depending on your team) in Summer Team fees. But I'm also a realist. My son isn't going to play for Vandy or UK. If i can spend $1000-$1200 over 3 years on PBR showcases to get him on a lower level D-1,D-2,D-3 or NAIA schools radar and they want to pay for part of his college expences I think I'm getting a good ROI.

He can be #7 or #107, if the school sees him and they think he can help their program, he will get a call.

  10. Now I get it.........You're just messin' with us. I'll admit ya had me going.

The way you were building him up you either had to be his dad, coach or agent.

This kid is going to have more pressure on him than Lonzo Ball, especially on a team that went 15-17 last year. That 4th state title will be hard to come by. 2015 West Jessamine, 2016 St. X, 2017 PRP, 2018 OHIO CO.???
