  1. SK has been the 6A team to beat in NKY, but they still haven't been able to compete with the other three in recent memory. So the OP isn't completely wrong in including them.

Hasn't Ryle beaten SK 2 out of the last 3 years? Ryle has one down season and now everyone is writing them off! Oldham County should be the top newcomer, but Fern Creek always has athletes.

  2. You're correct that Simon Kenton is still looking for 2 games. We have the Pioneers' schedule posted HERE in this thread.

It sounds like what you're describing with Elder is a pretty standard 2-year home and home series contract between the two teams, with both teams sharing a portion of the gate for the games...unless you're saying Elder offered additional money in order to get Ryle to agree to play them.

I was told that Elder is paying Ryle additional money to play at Elder in 2019 and then Ryle will keep all the gates when they return the favor in 2020.

  3. I've heard that teams like Ryle have a hard time getting teams to schedule them. I've heard that Simon Kenton is still looking for 2 or 3 games and it's almost March. How many teams out there still need games for them to play. One of Ryle's Coach's told me that Elder is paying Ryle to play at the PIT next season and then they will return the game to Ryle the next year. I do believe that Ryle will be much better than what people think!

  4. Talking to one of the coaches and was we played well considering Ryle played 7 games on the day (6-1) and HC only played 5 games (5-0). I believe HC only got to play 2 pool games and had the first round bye. Good day for both teams!

  5. I will be interested in seeing how our defense comes together this upcoming season? We lose a ton of seniors but the biggest loss might very well be the loss of defensive coordinator Mike Woolf. I might be a little biased, being that both of my boys played for coach Woolf. Has a D-coordinator been named yet? As potent as the offense has been the last three years, and even with a very good kicker, coaching decisions have often left the defense in precarious situations. for the most part, the defense held the line and kept our opponents out of the end zone. I hope the new coordinator can continue the success that coach Woolf established and demanded.

I wish nothing but continued success for the Raiders, but I would not be shocked if the Raiders took a step back this season.

I believe that Honaker has been named the DC and Collinsworth will be the Assistant Head Coach and continue working with the defense. The entire defensive staff remains and they will do a great job. If by coaching decisions, you are referring to onside kicks. I heard Woolf say that Molique was one of the best onside kickers he has ever seen and that they had recovered 20 plus onside kicks the past 2 seasons. Also, maybe the coach takes chances because he has the confidence in the defense to stop teams. I believe his confidence in Woolf and the defense was right on because they did stop teams and that enabled and helped the offense to put up a lot of points. Yes, Woolf going to be the head coach at CCHS is a big loss, but good programs have coaches that will move on to do bigger and better things and those programs just keep on winning.

  6. I know of 4 individuals in the last year that were all denied approval to play from OHSAA that moved from one part of Ohio to another and were denied. We are talking multiple hour drive moves too, not just across town moves. All 4 were told in their denial that the move had to be from out of state in order to be eligible.

That would mean that someone moving from NKY to Cincy would be ruled eligible, but someone moving from Cleveland to Cincy would not. I find that hard to believe.

  7. 1. Trinity- The trendy/hipster thing to do is to pick against them. I mean the Rocks have to stop winning at some point? Sure you can do that.. but history suggests you would be picking wrong.

    2. St. Xavier- Optimism will be high on Poplar Level Road and for good reason. A very good team returns with a new fearless leader. Kevin Wallace will win a Title in the next 5 years at St. X, my bold prediction, but not sure 2018 is the year it happens.

    3. Scott County- The Cards have the beef and the talent to make some serious noise. Barnett and Covington will give Defenses fits all season. Will they have the juice to outlast the Louisville powers? To be determined.

    4. Male- Henry Vestal will be one of the best players you haven't heard of yet and Jack Lucas will anchor a Bulldog secondary. Male took a small step back and may not have the high end depth to push Trinity, Male, or Scott County.. but don't count them out.

    5. Simon Kenton- The Pioneers keep winning 11+ games and continue to remain a tough out in the 6A landscape. Simon Kenton might not have their stoutest team, but they will once again factor in the grand scheme.

Simon Kenton is tough, but they would be 5B because Ryle would be 5A. Ryle has beaten them the last two seasons. I would probably rank Butler at 2 or 3 with what they have coming back. They outed both Ryle and Male last year before falling to St. X.

  8. Was thinking the exact same thing. Only what I heard and don’t know to be fact but I heard he was passed over twice while he was there.

He has a good thing going at Ryle even though many believe they have under achieved I don’t see him walking away from there maybe he’s interested idk.

I heard Engler never applied for it either time. Don’t know if he would have gotten it, but from my understanding is he didn’t pursue it. He does have a good thing going at Ryle and he’s done a great job. I don’t understand where people think he’s under achieved. Ryle wasnt exactly setting the win column on fire before he took over. All he’s done is win! I believe his 3 loses this year were to 3 very good football teams. Didn’t they lose several key players during the season to injuries and they still beat an undefeated Simon Kenton. I don’t know his overall record but his only loss in 2016 was to a very good Scott County team. Seems to me that he’s doing something right!

  9. Hard to believe that Cooper can turn the ball over 5 times and still lose by 20. Their best player is playing safety and WR. If he plays LB and RB, they could easily score more points. This game could have easily gotten out of hand with a Ryle win or easily a very close game. Not making excuses, Ryle with an ugly W, but in my opinion, Cooper with an even uglier L. Should have been much closer

Didn’t Ryle have 5 turnovers and still win by 20?

  10. I still have my doubts about Ryle, they got beat by a 2-4 Cathedral who didn't play there star RB or WR....

Cathedral is a really good team without the running back. Their leading rusher on the season did play last night. Yes, 2-4 but still ranked #2 in their class in Indiana so that says something about their schedule. I believe they still had 5 or 6 players with D1 offers play last night. One has to love those critics that can’t give credit but finds excuses.

  11. Win or lose, one has to hand it to Ryle for stepping up to play a national power. It brings a lot of positives and notoriety to Ryle, NKY and the state. It’s a win, win because if they win, then it’s a confidence builder that they can play with anyone and if they lose, then they are supposed to lose. Good Luck Raiders, we are cheering like crazy for you!

  12. Most forget that Ryle lost several starters, all in key spots, that are now playing for Big time college programs. Plus, I've heard that they are currently missing several starters to injuries. I heard Bisek kid (Toledo commit) did not play against HC. A win is a win and to win it the way they did with so many young players serves well for the future. I also heard someone say it was the same score they beat HC by last year and then the second matchup in the playoffs wasn't even close.

  13. How fair is it that Simon Kenton could win their region and have to possibly travel to McCracken County for a semi-final game? Wow! That is a great reward to win a region and then have to travel 4 plus hours! If the KHSAA is going to play cross districts and force teams to travel, then they should seed the entire tournament. Otherwise, it makes no sense that Simon Kenton and Ryle are 6 miles apart and would not meet until the state championship game this year. Seed and play the semi final games at neutral sites would be a great solution!

  14. Congrats to Jamale! Well deserved and the AP couldn't go wrong with this selection. However, the AP All-State is so biased for and against certain parts of the state. For instance, there's either no voters or only 1 voter from NKY and thereby NKY gets very little attention and very few kids on the All-State team. Just an opinion!

  15. You have to like that someone in NKY is scheduling real tests outside of their district. Unfortunately, it would have been better this past season. Ryle loses a lot of talent but this schedule shows a commitment to building a champion.

Ryle returns 7 or 8 offensive and 6 defensive starters. They do lose Tanner Morgan, which for any team would be hard to replace. They do return 4 offensive lineman and the best RB (Chisholm) in NKY. Ryle has a chance to be pretty good again next year.
