  1. NF Football Rules Changes - pre-1981 - Football.Refs.Org

Here is all the rule changes since forever. The site has them divided up in about 5 year increments.

I do not see anywhere that the rule was changed, meaning it has always been the rule. Maybe, I overlooked it?

I STAND CORRECTED... I was informed by one who is much smarter than I(which are many) that what was apparently changed was not the rule but the mechanic of when the ball crossed the goal line the whistle was to be blown immediately to indicate ball was dead. On free kicks as well as scrimmage kicks...

  2. I think the point may be that the whole world DOES NOT revolve around NKY. I doubt an incident in an obscure game in Kentucky set a standard for the whole country. LOL

Doubt what you want. I remember it being a very serious incident with a very serious litigation which included Riddel, officials, the KHSAA a couple of schools. Right after this they changed the rule that ALL kicks crossing the goal line becomes dead. Rule changes come about to prevent incidents that have happened before WHEREVER they happen.

Now whatever problem you have with NKY get over it. No one claimed that the world revolved around NKY. The only obscure thing here is your thought process...

  3. In looking at your post, you referenced an incident in KY as the reason the rule was implemented in the 90's. It sounded like you were inferring this was a KY only rule, especially when you mentioned KHSAA involvement.

Sorry that I didn't make it more clear. The reason the rule was implemented (I believe) was from the incident that happened in Ky and thus the rule was adopted by the NFHS as a safety factor...

  4. I think it is a quick fix. The Officials need to organize and stand up to the KHSAA and/or the Commish needs to base the selections on merit with no ifs ands or buts.

In Defense of the KHSAA and the Commish, It is my understanding that years ago (when there were only for classes) The big three of the officiating associations Lexington, Louisville, and Northern Ky used to get a championship game assigned to them each year and the fourth game was given to one of the remaining associations in the state. One of the other associations sued or threatened to file suit and they came up with a more "fair" way to spread out the championship assignments. Therefore they pick 2-3 officials from each association. If anyone can provide more info or clarify if this is still the way they do it I think it would answer a few questions about the quality of officiating in the championship games...

  5. This rule isn't specific to KY/KHSAA. It is a NFHS rule that is the same throughout the country. Even the two states that use college rules, Texas and Massachusets, follow this rule.

The other rule concerning kicks that is different, is it doesn't matter where the player is when he downs the ball....if the player is in the end zone, but the ball is not, it is not a touchback.

Thanks? I did not say it was only specific to Ky I was giving an explanation when and why it came into effect. Atleast as far as I can remember. I am not sure what point you are trying to make?

  6. I am a Tackett guy. He is a former official, I assume he believes what he is going is best but I think about everyone else disagrees with him.

By a good source I was told sometime ago that a certain KHSAA official picked his "buddies" that he officiated college games with to work the championship games before the season started which caused some animosity. When "politics" starts from the top, where do you think the changes need to start?

  7. The rule for ANY kicks crossing the goal line was put in place due to safety factors. If memory serves me correctly, back in the 90's a player was injured on a kick off (in NKY) during the playoffs. The visiting team kicked off after a score and the young man watched the ball go over his head. One of the kickoff coverage players hits the young man and caused a head injury. The discussion was about the play being over. Years ago coaches taught to play till the whistle. There was no whistle so play continued and incident happened. It was a major ordeal with the schools, refs, & the KHSAA. I won't state what the rule was called or any team names but you can look it up if anyone so desires. It's unfortunate that the refs got it wrong today but that question "what if" will forever linger...

  8. I'll be the first to say that penalties have killed us in some of our games. I simply said that they haven't been a problem in quite a few games. Not saying he had more yards than stated. Just saying your judging the way the kid plays by one game. Since you've only watched the 2 NCC games, I'm just gonna say that you can't judge someone on what you see in 2 games. But let's hope that people like you keep doubting Smith, it only makes him stronger and more determined to prove people wrong and to quiet the haters.

Again penalties haven't been an issue because you haven't had any competition for several games. You can get the facts about a game other ways than being there first hand. I doubted Smith ability only by what I've seen, heard, & read. When he shows me something than I will believe it. Absolutely no hating hear just the facts....

  9. I

Your wasting your time. Trying to drop even the least bit of football knowledge and logical on some of these cats is a complete loss. I mentioned a few basic points and it's the same people saying it's my "sour grapes" or my "judgement is clouded" when they couldn't give an honest unbiased breakdown if their life depended on it.

Maybe Bishop Bullwinkle from the First Church of Nothing but the Truth will show up and drop some truth on them...

  10. Your basing that on one game, in which NCC'S Defense dominated the game and spent more time on the field than their offense. I hope Danville comes into this game and takes your advice, it will be a long game for them and even a longer ride home.

NCCs defense did dominate the game on a sophomore QB. That is a fact, can't deny it. If Danville comes and and takes my advice NCC will have a lot longer ride back to the lockeroom than Danville will have. If I am giving such bad advice to Danville why would you be arguing about it?

  11. Just curious how many Newcath games have you actually watched in person??? I'm guessing maybe 2 (both Lloyd games), correct? Stats can be very misleading. And UK FAN is correct Smith only played half the game.

Yeah those are the only two games I have seen NCC in person. Go back and read ALL the posts by NCC fans have left on BGP that state "stupid penalties are killing us". Stats are what they are stats! Are you telling me that Smith had that more yards than stated? Yeah he went out in the 3rd quarter, maybe he was injured or maybe he was frustrated. He slammed the ball down a couple of times after he was stuffed. Lloyd didn't seem to have a problem stopping him...

  12. Penalties haven't been an issue for the Breds for quite a few games. Lloyd lost the game because the Breds were the better team. You gotta give them the credit, they deserve it.

Ok maybe I'll make it easier for you to understand. If someone gives them a challenge or makes it tough on them they do have problems with penalties. You are probably right that they haven't had to much competition in the playoffs so they haven't had problems with penalties. You look back at the teams who give them a game and they have self destructed. They get chippy, mouthy, down right dirty. Whatever you want to call it. I guarantee you that if Danville comes out and gives them a hard way to go the problem will rear its ugly head. They were the better team, had the better game plan, coaching and executed much better than Lloyd did last week.

  13. Don't let the bitterness of Lloyd losing to NCC cloud your judgement. And as far as Smith goes you may need to check Smiths highlights again if you think it's that easy to stop him.

The only bitterness is from you and those like you who don't read the facts:

From the stats NCC provided the KHSAA Smith was 11 carries for 68 yards and 0 TDs. Lawnboy posted in game post (#58) that 1 run for Smith was for 54 yards. Simple public school math 68-54=14. So Smith had 14 yards on those other 10 carries for a titanic average of 1.4 per carry. So I would say it wasn't to difficult for him to be stopped...

  14. Lloyd is not in the same uiverse as Danville, I'm going by their season stats on KHSAA and they tell me that NCC weakness on defense is against the pass numbers don't lie.

Lloyd lost that game because a young sophomore QB was put into a position he shouldn't of been put. He's not accurate and knows who he is throwing to as he breaks the huddle no matter if double, triple, or quadruple coverage. He was pressured all night and didn't handle it well at all. To beat NCC just give them a game and they will self destruct with penalties. Stuff the middle and Smith is done. Harris is the one to watch IMO underrated all year...
