  1. How would you rate CAL's DLine this year versus DeSales DLine last year? MF's Oline is essentially the same, but a year older, wiser, and better. I'm thinking that might be the best metric in figuring out where we stack up.

As a DeSales fan, I think CALs DL is much better. They're bigger and more athletic. They have 2 division 1 players in Olsafka and Paulson. That's one of the best defensive lines I've seen at the small school level.

  2. It was a solid game. I was very impressed with CAL's defense, especially their front 7. I thought DeSales made some great adjustments in the 2nd half. They just weren't able to finish drives offensively. I was very disappointed to see CAL come stomp on the logo the first time they played in the new stadium. However, it is a rivalry. Looking forward to the rematch in the playoffs. Go Colts

  3. I have been to lots of games Colt Football having watched my boys take on mighty Desales for many years. Too many painful endings to the season for us CAL fans/families. No question that Desales has been the better program. What I have come to learn is that the players quickly move on from the rivalry once they get to college or the workforce. They play football at college together, join the same fraternities and even work together in real life. It is really the current players, fans and us crazy parents that act like this game is the end all be all. I perhaps more than most am guilty, guilty, guilty. The fact is that contrary to the comments of good ole Jimmy Seymour above, fans are all the same. They, including me, see the world through their own team's colors. The other team and it's fans are always mean and angry and disrespectful while your own fans are good God fearing honest people who never say or step over the line. We all know that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Even in defeat in the playoffs I will say that watching these two teams play against one another is a pleasure, albeit sometimes a painful one. I hope the Colts and the Centurions stay injury free and maybe, just maybe, I am secretly hoping that CAL loses the regular season game to change up the mojo! Lastly, having played games at Iroquois and Southern I can tell that we are very excited to play at your new stadium. A program like Desales deserves it.

I couldn't agree more with this. Very well said

  4. This happens ever so often thru the years. A team has their best team ever, and they think since this is their best team ever, that they are the best team ever. Desales' fans are happy for, and proud of, their best team ever.

That lofty perch you all have earned is where Mayfield lives, for the past thirty years. You may win, you may lose. But you aint nothing special. Not to us. Teams are always good in the semi-finals. We are used to playing teams at the peak of their success. Those teams, including yours, are not used to playing us.

This week's prediction....the colts get branded with a big ole red M.

This is not our best team ever and no one ever said that. We're just confident in our team ?

  5. I would absolutely love to make a trip down to Mayfield in a few weeks, but that's looking way too far ahead. I know very little about Monroe, but from the sound of it, it seems like they must be legit and DeSales fans already know that a rematch with CAL will be a tough one. In order to get to Bowling Green, you have to take one game at a time, so I'm looking forward to Green County this week, and then next week we can keep talking potential matchups.

  6. It's hard to judge unless you've seen every team play. I can't speak for Mayfield, but I know CAL has a pretty solid defense that is consistent every year, and I know Murray also has a good defense. As for DeSales, in 2013 we gave up 9.8 ppg, in '14 we gave up 6.1 ppg, and this year its at 7.7 ppg. The most we've given up all year is 16 points to CAL, which one of those scores was a pick six and one of their field goals was set up off a pick. The past few years I feel like we've had the best defense and I think the same for this year, but like I said, I haven't seen Mayfield play. Most of the teams at the top have solid defenses and will no doubt win one of these teams a state championship.

  7. Question for Colt & CAL fans, I know both these teams are very good football teams, but really little else. How did these 2 become rivals? Always in a district together?

I since some bad blood; is that just a bad assumption on my part or just good hard nosed rivals? Thanks!

Its more of just being a hard nosed rivalry. There's been a few instances in the past and the games tend to get chippy but I think it's safe to say both programs respect each other
