Here's what I will say:
It has been a long time since I saw a Pikeville team look that good in the Pike County Bowl.
Part of it was LCA made them look good, granted, but the combination of size, quickness, and playmakers was very impressive for a 1A team and the confidence/swagger with which Pikeville played on Defense has convinced me the Panthers are going to be very good.
I'm still not totally convinced this team is better than the 2015 State Championship team. It's just too early. Daric Pugh along with Chatlin Jarrell made a great 1-2 punch on offense from that team along with a very athletic qb. As for the question, no IMO Pikeville is far from a lock for Kroger Field. Raceland looks good, Paintsville has been very good as of late, and don't forget Hazard.

Me too, but at the same time I can't fault kids or parents who choose to make a decision they feel is best for getting their kids in a better situation for their future.
Wandale's talent was big enough that he got noticed by the big schools.
For other kids, they may have D-1 talent but are in situations where D-1 exposure is not likely. If they or their parents feel getting them to a place where they can better be noticed helps secure a scholarship and gives them a head start on a bigger future then more power to them.
Cameron Jones from Frederick Douglass is an example of this. If he stayed at Knott Central I am thinking the best case scenario he would have had would be a preferred walkon spot at a "bigger" school and an opportunity at a OVC school may have been his best "offer" potential with NAIA being the most logical landing spot.
Even without throwing a pass in a Frederick Douglass game I think just being at a larger school in Lexington legitimized him in the eyes of recruiters and now he is going to Cincy.
At Knott Central I don't think a Cincy recruiter would ever darken the hallway sadly.
I agree 100% with your statement.

Wandale confirmed in the Herald Leader that he was seriously considering Trinity.
I have a lot of respect for him for doing the right thing IMO and staying at the Hills.

I hope Wandale Robinson can stay injury free this season. I think back to Damien Harris's senior year when he suffered a knee injury. Hopefully, that doesn't happen with Wandale. With all that being said, I will go with the obvious and say that I think Wandale will be the difference maker in this game, and the Wolverines will avenge last season's loss to Franklin County.

No, I don't think the trophy should be mailed to Beechwood. Yes, I think going into the start of the season, Beechwood is at least two touchdowns better than the next best team in 1A. The eastern side of the state does having a few Davids that would love a shot at slaying Goliath, though. IMO Pikeville is the slight favorite to represent that side of the state, at least on paper, to open the season. They return every starter, with the exception of two players, that was a late 4th quarter field goal on the road from playing for the title last year. All that talent will be a year older and a year wiser. I'm sure Raceland and isn't happy with how things ended for them, despite playing in their schools first every title game, and would love another crack at taming the Tigers. Throw Paintsville and Hazard into the mix and one thing is for sure. Whoever comes out of the east to face most likely Beechwood in the state title game, they will be battle tested.

From the comments I've heard J.C. Coach Jim Matney make, he really likes this team. They have running back Shoeless Joe back after he missed virtually all of last season with a knee injury. So, this team may have the pieces in place to make another run at the 4A championship game. With that being said, Beechwood will be Beechwood. I figure they can hold their own with just about any of the smaller schools including those in 4A. Corbin, a 3A finalist from a year ago, found that out the hard way last season when they paid the Tigers a visit. If I had to pick a winner, yes, I'd pick Johnson Central, but it's not a sure thing. I'd love to see this matchup.

Thanks Newarkcatholicfan. As for the game, I must say, I'm shocked by the score.
