  1. I wasn't there so it's hard to say. According to the new rule, if the Holy Cross player attempted to play the ball and the penalty was awarded, a yellow card should've been given. The description says pulled down so who knows. However, a red card is only given if:

    1. The player made no attempt to play the ball in the box i.e. pulling someone down by their jersey, grabbing player and pulling them down.

    2. The foul is the denial of a obvious goal scoring opportunity outside of the penalty area.

It's subjective and very hard to tell not being able to see it but it could've been harsh to issue a red card if the HC player made a genuine attempt at the ball in the box.

  2. I'll probably stop by and catch some of that Simon Kenton/Cooper matchup on Wednesday. Curious if anyone has a take on how good either of these teams will be this year?

Not extremely familiar with SK but I know they lost some really good talent in their Senior Class but return some really key players so I expect them to be solid.

  3. The 8th and 10th region won. Some kids from Ryle, Scott, and Cooper played with the 8th and 10th because numbers were low. It was 5-5 I think at the end of regulation, and the 8th and 10th won in PK's. It was pretty odd how they did the PK's though. Both keepers were in the same goal and the players took the PK's at the same time. I don't know everyone who scored but I do know that Adam Snow (Cooper), Matthew Barnett (Grant), Francisco Abbinante (SK) and Nate Hoffman (Ryle) scored for the 8th and 10th. I know Griffin Lamb (Cov Cath), Tyler Benjamin (SK), and I believe it was DJ Sanders had two (St. Henry). Most of the kids just messed around and no one took it too serious but they all seemed to enjoy it.

  4. Agree you cannot tell anything from the video or still photo other than it was close. If an attacking player has an arm, leg, half of his body, etc in an offsides position..............it's offsides. Close call, agreed but not definitive either way.

As I said in my first post on this thread (post #4) congrats to Daviess as they have a fine team and are deserving champs.

I agree 100%. We were in a group talking about what a difficult call that was to make and even more difficult given it was a state final.

I was surprised with how well Daviess moved the ball and created chances against the Cov Cath D. This will be a tough game to top in the future.

Also a kudos to the Cov Cath student section that showed up. They made the game a lot more enjoyable.

  5. I have to disagree. I happened to be standing long the fence and was almost in perfect position to make the same call. He was offsides.

However, I do agree that Daviess County deserved to win. They outplayed the Colonels the entire game. Their passing and ball control was superior to the Colonels. Both teams made mistakes and missed opportunities leading to the outcome. Congrats to both teams on excellent seasons!

I was in the same spot as you and I thought they made the right call. However after watching the video it showed he was on.

One of the best state finals I have seen and congrats to both teams on great seasons. I attached a screenshot from the video.

  6. Is it a perfect system? No

Does it recognize all players deserving an award? No

Does it leave off players who deserve to be on the list? Absolutely

Let's just move on though and quit griping about something that will never change. I highly doubt coach or player even cares that much. However some people have taken a post about an All State team and turned it back into a dumpster fire about a great injustice to the team. Now I am not saying aforementioned "Cov Cath Crazies" started it because it was actually a post from Soccer Coach Wannabe that added fuel to the fire. However let's just move on and focus on what an run they have made, the defense they have been playing, and hopefully the ship coming back to NKY. In all honesty though this is Bluegrass Preps so I doubt that will happen.

  7. Seriously? One person posts a compliment on how Schneider is one of the better players he has seen on any team, including a top Ohio team....AFTER two NON CCH posters say they have issues with him not being named and suddenly the "Cov Cath faithful" takes a shot.

The only thing interesting is that you still seem to think the "all region" team is based on talent when it's clearly not the case.

What a "great" format, laughable is more like it.

Going back to the "all region" team, if that were to be taken as accurate, it appears that CovCath has made it to the semi-finals of the state tournament with only three good players. The rest of the team isn't worthy of an honorable mention according to some wannabees on this blog.

I think they deserved the shot.

  8. I personally think the all region team is a good thing for the players. Yes some players get missed, yes some players make the team when they maybe aren't good at others, but kids ARE at least getting recognized. Remember, some of the kids you are saying shouldn't make the team, play on less skilled teams. Who's to say they couldn't be a better player on a more skilled team. We can't disqualify them because there team lost to many games, that's not fair either. Tell me, what other REGION in the state has an All Region Team. What other REGION in the state has an banquet to honor for these kids to go to and get honored......................The answer is NONE. Instead of griping about who was missed, let's recognize the other side, this region at least cares enough to make the effort to recognize players for soccer. Coaches will be coaches, they will vote for a multitude of reasons, we can't change that. Some of these players it may be there only recognition they will ever receive, that is okay. If they made the list, they were at least noticed by some coaches. There is a lot of competition in this region, I'm sure that Highlands, Ryle, St. Henry and others nominated players that didn't make the team. We don't here those people complaining. Looking at the list the striker competition and goalie competition was tough for voting this year. Remember the player your complaining didn't make the team, played several positions this year, meaning different coaches saw him play different ways. This will affect his votes, and his final position was striker, which was a stacked position. Ever year some one gets missed, we don't even no for sure if he was nominated for all region. I was told by one coach he was surprised at how few nominations came from that specific team, the point is unless the coach tells us he nominated him we will never know. I just think instead of blasting the situation, let's keep perspective and be happy that the players in our region at least get a chance to be recognized.
