  1. They should matter.Teams bust their behinds almost year round now,or at least tons of players do playing both High school and travel ball. The rankings are recognition for playing at a high level and votes should be awarded based on a teams accomplishments not by what they done last year. Its fun to keep up with rankings and maybe they are a bit flawed but that will get better with coaches now being able to keep up with scores and stats via internet,GameChanger and Riherds

  2. Owensboro Catholic, even if they did play would not be the definite favorite in the 3rd Region.Hancock County is 5 time All A state runner up and is loaded with seniors and juniors that can score lots of runs.Look for Hancock to make a deep run in the tourney and Possibly take it home.

  3. I too would like to see East Carter in action. Not often you can see a Big time D1 pitcher pitch at the high school level. That being said I'm sure EC has some solid defenders and good ballplayers but when 1 player accounts for 17.2 outs per 7 innings Fouts needs to be on the entire tourney to win it all.Really they could've finished at least 28-3 by scoring just 2 runs every game.Get out of Eastern ky. and the games will get a lot tougher.I believe they will dominate their region but will fall a little short at state.

  4. The post season is soon to be in full swing.Lets get the predictions started.District,Region, and State tourney predictions always seem to get some good conversations started across the state.

I'll get it started as I Predict the Owensboro Catholic Aces finally make it out of the district to claim the 3rd region but the McCracken Co. Repeats as state champs

  5. I agree that the louisville/jefferson county has some of the true powers in the state but The Courier Journal is geared toward college and professional sports.

That being said,Western Ky is a hotbed for high school softball and the coverage regionally and locally is far and above greater than central and eastern ky.

Jim Pickens has year in and year out provided excellent coverage for the Owensboro Messenger Inquirer.During the season, especially during the Post-season their coverage is nothing less than great.

Also for the most part,it is the coaches responsibility to turn in scores and stats. For the fans a good coach takes the 5 minutes it takes to call it in.
