BTW, it is kinda a shot at Hazard and McCracken Co. One great pitching performance can always be an equalizer in a one game situation like the State Tourney.
With all of the athletic talent that HHS has in their school when was the last time they were in the state tourney?
Maybe I should have quoted the post that I was responding to. The post that claimed that most were D1 talent but didn't know why they signed with D2 and JUCO schools.
It may have still come across as a shot, maybe not.
I believe back to back 96 and 97 seasons. Losing to Harrison Co. by 1 run both years.

McCracken lost to Hazard 5-1 in the first round last year.
Hazard's roster consisted of
1 6th Grader
5 7th Graders
4 Frosh
6 Soph
3 SRs
With all the talent McCracken couldn't beat a group of underclassmen?
Enough with the stats and SOS regarding the Mustangs. This Highlands team will be ready.
*Disclaimer* Not discounting Hazard at all.

Yes, Game was 2-0 going into 7th and McGee was still pitching. Mustangs plated 3 to seal the deal.
McCracken had 9 hits against McGee.
Thanks for the info. Sounds like these two teams will create an instant classic. Can't wait!!

So going into the 7th. I could assume this game was 1-0, 2-0? Was McGee still pitching in the 7th?

Just read a tweet that said of the last seven opponents. Highlands is 85-2 with St Henry being the team to score the two runs. That's a crazy stat!!

Any update on NCC and Dixie?
-
Wow...sad when you forget about Martin. I'd expect maybe him to get start and maybe Doty/Noe to finish. if they can get past the Rebels it would be nice to have Jones fresh with Raisor/Bunning there if needed.
This would be the ideal situation!

Who does Boone have to throw?
Maybe Elmore or Dahms.

What about Martin for HHS?

I was hoping to see games where the Birds played more of the top teams like Cov Cath or Dixie's aces or Beechwood w/ Fieger. The Ryle game, I bet was early in the season. I don't know if I would want to face Ziegelmeyer late in the season.
What do those teams you mentioned have in terms of pitching depth? The names I have heard of are Young at Cov Cath and Smallwood at Dixie.
-
What I mean is that the Bird's # 3 and #4 are most likely a step above the rest of the fields' #3 and #4 . Their #1 and #2 against one of the other top teams 1&2's are more evenly matched, so it will come down to which team can pull some hits together and who has the best defensive game.
I know there is a lot of talk on how deep their pitching staff is, but I think Highlands success has been due to some strong bats. Can someone's ace quiet them ?, who knows. Thats why they play the game.
I think I seen that the Bird's are undefeated against local talent. How many of the top 10 in NKY have they played and have any of the games been against the others Ace?
Teams listed are from the NKY Coaches Poll
Stringer - Beechwood
Edwards & Eblin - Campbell County (played them twice)
Ostertag - Conner
Ziglemyer(sp?) - Ryle
Moeves - NCC
The only game that was Ace vs Ace was Ryle. Highlands has beat the other teams listed using pitchers ranging 2-4 on the depth chart.

We are closing in on the half way mark of the allotted number of games. I believe the question marks have been answered.
Pitching - was expected to be solid and has been nothing less than great!
Second base - Grayson Heck has been the starter as suggested and is doing a great job. I will admit that I did like the lineup Coach B put on the field against Boyle. Infield was Martin 3B, Ramey SS, Whitford 2B, Mills 1B. With lineup coach was able to Kenny Ball as the DH.
Right Field - there were a couple of names thrown out that could/would play this position. So far Conner Kreegar has seen the most innings. IMO will continue to do so as he is just raking at the plate. Also brings a ton of speed to the outfield.
The schedule for this up coming week
Monday - St. Henry @ St Henry 7PM
Wednesday - NCC @ HP 5PM (district seeding game)
Thursday - Campbell County @ HP 5PM
Saturday - La Salle (OH) @ La Salle HS 12PM
-
Wow!!! What a game. Highlands is fundamentally sound defensively. The play by Grayson Heck to cut down the run at the plate was BIG. Mitch Jones was fantastic on the mound tonight.
Got to tip my cap the starting pitcher(sorry name escapes me) for Lexington Catholic. Young man was only a soph and showed great mound presence for an underclassmen.

I was told by a Birds player that Doty will pitch.
I may be wrong. Looking at their roster. You can throw 5-6 names in a hat and not go wrong IMO. Highlands is blessed in the pitching department.
-
YesQuestions for those in attendance.1. How many innings did Bunning pitch? 6 1/3
2. Who was the reliever that was getting squeezed? Jacob Noe
3. Why was Mitchell Jones in left? Thought that is where Murray played.
4. See that Kreeger is hitting the ball very well, where does he play? RF
5. Have not heard much about Venemann, is he playing?
-
Per PBR Rankings, #10 Highlands takes on #2 Lexington Catholic. Each team sporting a healthy record. Highlands 9-3 and Lex Cath 10-2. Both teams enter todays match up with quality signature wins. Lex Cath defeating #3 ranked St. X and Highlands defeating Ohio powerhouse Elder.
I expect LC to throw their ace and Highlands will do the same by giving the ball to KWC commit Mitch Jones. I like the Birds in this one. 3 to 2 final score.

The catch my Mitchell Jones was great. And yes it did keep the Eagles from tying the game and or possibly winning.

Yes Raisor is finished for the tournament. His final line will say 6IP but due to KHSAA pitch rule. The one pitch he threw in the 7th constitutes as an inning pitched. Forcing him to need 3 days rest.
I would guess Martin will get the ball to start. Then relievers will be dictated by score, inning, right or left handed batter, etc...
I would be very surprised to see Jones on the mound today as a starter, considering that there are fresh quality arms available.
