And this further proves my point. Let this continue and watch just how many teams DON'T show up for the State tourney. Far too many other tourneys within a 2 hour radius that could be taken advantage of. The State tourney is my son's team only trip to KBA and we are the oldest program in NKY and well respected and strongly considering playing elsewhere in the future. To each his own but the rep will catch up to KBA if changes aren't made.
Its not just the Kba. If your son or daughter had played in the Lebron tournament or any other big tournament it's all the same.
-
the officials working FAR TOO MANY games as well as being unqualified to even be on the court! Not speaking for every official as there are some very good one's across the State but just because you put on a striped shirt doesn't make you an official!! AAU coaches expect and deserve to have games officiated correctly and by competent (and in decent shape) officials who can get up and down the floor!!
Its all about the money. AAU, OFFICIALS, KBA all could care less. More kids & teams + games = more money.

Thorton could possibly be returning for his senior year!
-
Why would he take a chance on injury.

Heard Troy Lee Thomas was steeping down @ Bath Co.

I have no beef w/Manimal or any other team. I was giving my thoughts on picking up a player that already has been playing for weeks now. One AAU coach told me one time players come & player go and is a true statement, but coaches keep trying to recruit at early ages instead of taking the players they already have and making them better. It happens in High School to. They are not many player like Mr. Goodin in the state and he will almost certainly make a difference in Team Manimal winning. Is C. Miller playing this weekend with Manimal?
-
You can also be assured that Mr. Stallworth has 3 regular players who can't play this weekend so he's actually still 2 short.
All you never said in your post was that Q. Goodin was playing w/Team Manimal....
-
I'm told by head coach Maze Stallworth that 2016 Taylor County star Quentin Goodin will be playing with Team Manimal in AAU State Tourney. That's an interesting development.
Is this kid going to be sitting on the bench? We can be assured Mr. Goodin will get 30+ min if needed. I think this will take someone spot.
-
I've been attending this event for a few years now and I promise you...it's a big deal to the players and coaches.
What about that Kids spot you take away because you bring in a STUD? That's a bigger deal. I love this game as much as the next. Hoop Dreams should've played in the State. Must not be that big of a deal to them.
-
Winning the state AAU tournament is a big deal to these programs in my opinion. That's just another accolade to add to the mix when trying to get more sponsorship and more opportunities.
Ky AAU State is better than West Virginia and not near as good as Indiana AAU state. I really dont see it as that big of a deal. The bigger deal would be adding some young stud from another AAU team just to play in a tournament that all you get is a 2 1/2" fake gold metal. But in the end you are saying to those kids & there parents that you are not good enough to compete. Why isnt this young man team playing in the Ky AAU state.
-
Lewis county very well could be one of the top teams. This is only my opinion. I am no expert on teams or players in the region by any means. Those are just the kids that I can remember from last season. Elliott lost their best inside player in Holbrook and their best defender in Sloas. They still have a lot of good players returning. Rowan lost a lot, but have some decent young players returning. Should be a competitive year again in the region.
I think you are trying to pull the wool over our eyes. I think you have a pretty good knowledge of the game.
-
Surely there isn't a coach in AAU who would reject a top 100 (nationally) player for the weekend.
Most would take top 100 player. Hoping someday to reap the benfits later. This is whats wrong with AAU! Sportsmanic I truely repect you for your reply.
-
Didnt Morgan have another player last year that was suppose to be a stud and was ruled academically ineligible? Did he graduate?
-
Not if you have the players, Don't forget Pendelton County was in the 10th region when Buddy was there....[/quote
I'm sure they are more talent in Mason year in & out vs Ashland. But Ashland was the Mason Co of the 16th region, Not saying he will not win the 10th all I said was it will be harder to win the 10th vs 16th,
-
It will be harder to win in the 10th vs the 16th. Good Luck, And big shoe's to fill.
-
I wish him luck. Curious, what does Ashland have in the lower grades/middle school that the program can be built upon?
The 7th grade class is pretty good. Not alot of size, but kids can play.
-
CVH would also have a chance if he were a senior. :lol2:
Surely you are just kidding!
-
One of the classiest coaches I know. Wish him the best.
-
There's some serious cash going on in the 3rd and 9th regions.
That what the schools get. Can't imagine what KHSAA is getting. All about the money. What about Ky Duke Wisconsin & Michigan St. with the final 4. Pay those kids. The university are making so much money.
-
What it if it is that simple? Have you taken some time to review the financial reports from the region tournaments in recent years (info is posted on khsaa.org on the basketball page). I have. It's some interesting reading.
I just looked at those reports. WOW!!!!!!
-
I've heard that Evan Faulkner is being looked at as a possibility.
His name has been mentioned. I even think they spoke with him early March.

What does that matter?? Does a full gym make basketball more important or different than academic meets or band concerts?? They are all school based activities that are enhance the school experience. Unless of course you are valuing a basketball player (or any athlete) more than a kid in the band.
And by the way, there are plenty of basketball (and other HS sports teams) that play in front of small crowds. The size of the crowd or fan base doesn't make a sport or activity any more or less relevant.
My kids have been in the band and on the academic team and i have never paid to enter either. So i would think that money is the differnece why the KHSAA dont care about recruiting for the band or academic team. When they start making money from it the WILL regulate it.
-
How many of these gyms are full for a basketball game vs academic meet or band concert?
-
I live in a world (or at least a county) where there are 3 public school options (all in the same district), and 4 private schools all within 7 or 8 miles, all of which I can attend with no major hassles.....unless I want to play sports. Why do sports have to be different??
It called recruiting. KHSAA frowns on this kind of behavior, buy a house sell your old one and its done.
Or there could be a rule like Ohio were you are allowed to transfer one time while in high school.
