  1. 8th grader Mason Rusch had a great game. The speedy point guard came in late in the first to spark the Cougars. He continued to find the open man and knock down big shots. The Wade and Riley duo had a hard time finding the bottom of the net in the first half as they seemed to be a bit out of sink.

Silver Grove played hard but their inexperienced lineup turned the ball over too much in the second half.

  2. Sliver Grove led at the end of the first but their smaller lineup couldn't stop the Cougars as they attacked the paint. Silver Grove's number 14 can really pass the basketball. He is a soild player. The Big Trains played hard tonight.

    Calvary Christian

    Justin Wade 22pts

    Akeem Riley 20pts

    Mason Rusch 7 pts and 5 assist (8thgrader )

  3. A week of good weather allowed for a full slate of games last week, and there were several closely contested battles. These rankings have not significantly changed, but there has been a bit of movement.

    #1 - Montgomery County (15-8)

The Indians started last week with a 62-60 buzzer-beating loss at Scott on Tuesday night. Playing without leading scorer and rebounder Jerryd Jones, Montgomery stayed with the host Eagles the entire way, but could not escape with a victory. Caswell Fuller scored 17 points and Cody Parsley had 15 in the loss. Matt Daniel's team regrouped to get a pair of weekend wins, beginning with a 63-48 road win at George Rogers Clark on Friday. Fuller again paced Jones-less MoCo with 23 points, while Shelby Combs finished with 11 and Art Walker 10. On Saturday the Indians played their first home game in two weeks, outlasting Madison Southern 69-62. Combs was the high man with 23 points. Fuller had 13, Parsley 12, and freshman Brennan Canada netted 11 points. As for Jones, the dynamic junior is dealing with some health issues and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.

    #2 - Bishop Brossart (16-4)

Just two games for the Mustangs last week. Prior to their Class "A" State Tournament game, the Stangs easily handled Calvary Christian on the road Tuesday night 62-20. Ten Brossart players scored, led by Jacob Zai's 19 points. In Thursday's Class "A" State Tournament game, Mike Code's bunch struggled from the floor with 33% field goal shooting in a 37-33 loss to eventual runner-up Murray. Zai was the only Mustang in double figures with 10 points.

    #3 - Campbell County (11-11)

Three home wins last week improved the defending champs' record to .500 at 11-11. On Tuesday night the Camels upended Clark Montessori OH 76-60, powered by Matt Wilson's 29 points and 14 rebounds. Trent McGovney added 17 and Cole Hegyi 11 for the victors. Thursday night saw the Camels outscore Augusta 50-34 in the 2nd half to win 87-67. Wilson again led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds, with Hegyi contributing 17 points. McGovney, Tanner Clos, and Garren Bertsch each helped out with 13 points for the Camels, who shot 62.3% from the floor. On Saturday at Campbell County Middle School, Aric Russell's club outlasted Scott 60-48 in a game with 37th District seeding implications. Wilson again loomed large, scoring 22 points and grabbing 15 boards--both game highs. Bertsch and Hegyi added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

    #4 - Mason County (15-7)

The Royals also went 3-0 last week, starting with Tuesday night's come-from-behind 60-56 win at Paris. Mason outscored the Hounds, who were playing without their leading scorer and rebounder, 13-2 over the final 3:21 to get the W. Isiah Garrison led the team with 20 points. Pig Williams had 16 and Conner Sweeney 12. Two nights later the Royals defeated visiting Boyd County 67-54, led by Pig Williams' 23 points and 8 rebounds. Darren Williams chipped in with 15 points and Sweeney had 10. On Friday night Mason County got past Rowan County on the road 70-62 in OT. Pig Williams again topped the winners with 21 points. Sophomore guard Levi Dunaway tallied 15 points, Darren Williams 13, and Garrison 12.

    #5 - Paris (15-4)

The Greyhounds were outscored by Mason County 13-2 in the final 3:21 of Tuesday night's 60-56 home loss. Jekobi Wells scored 18 and Eric Johnson 17 in defeat. On Saturday Paris took part in Sayre's Bluegrass Conference Challenge. The Hounds defeated the host Spartans 58-46 in their first contest, led by Wells' 19 points and Ryan Davis' 12. In the championship game, Terence Brooks' squad defeated Model 74-61 to claim the championship. Perhaps most alarming for the Greyhounds is the fact that in all three games, they were without the services of leading scorer and rebounder Koebe Garrard.

    #6 - George Rogers Clark (12-9)

The Cardinals went 1-1 last week. GRC bested Bourbon County 79-72 in Winchester on Tuesday, with five players reaching double figures: Jyles Anderson had 21, James Cornelius 20 points and 14 rebounds, Jordan Menchen and Ryan Cooper 12, and Josiah Israel 11. On Friday night Scott Humphrey's team lost 63-48 at home to rival Montgomery County. Anderson's 11 points lead GRC in the loss.

    #7 - Scott (8-13)

The Eagles snapped a 3-game losing streak in Tuesday night's thrilling 62-60 win over visiting Montgomery County--a game won on Nelson Perrin's last second putback. Vinnie Duimlao topped Scott with 18 points. Perrin and Jake Ohmer added 17. On Friday night the Eagles led Bracken County on the road 44-26 at the half, and then held on for an 87-80 win. Ohmer became the school's all-time scoring leader, pouring in 42 points on 20-20 FT shooting. The next day Scott lost a hard-fought 60-48 contest at Campbell County. Brad Carr's kids outplayed the Camels for much of the contest, but the Camels were too strong down the stretch. Ohmer led in the loss with 18 points.

    #8 - Augusta (13-6)

The Panthers started their week by earning a very competitive 67-61 win at St. Patrick on Tuesday night. Owens Crawford scored 24 points, Connor Maddox 22, and Camryn Snapp 11 in the victory. On Thursday night Brian Kirk took his club to Alexandria for a battle with Campbell County, in which Augusta trailed just 37-33 at intermission. But the Camels dominated the 2nd half to win 87-67. Maddox paced the team with 26 points and Jared Shoemaker added 10.

    #9 - Bracken County (10-8)

After a layoff of 15 days, the Polar Bears took to the floor four times last week, finishing 2-2. Kameron Covington's basket at the final horn sent Bracken home from Newport with a 59-57 loss on Tuesday. Austin Crawford led the Bears with 25 points and 16 rebounds. The next night Jason Hinson's squad turned back visiting Beechwood 53-40. Crawford's 20 and 13 led the way, but Jacob Hamilton chipped in with 14 points and Jarred Lippert had 11. On Friday night in Brooksville, Bracken trailed Scott 44-26 at the half, but fought back to cut the lead to 2 late in the 4th. But Jake Ohmer and the Eagles proved too strong, winning 87-80. Crawford (33) and Hamilton (28) combined to score 61 of the team's points. Crawford scored 33 points again on Saturday in a 76-64 road win over Nicholas County. Brady Jones had a nice game with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Cooper Engnes tossed in 15.

    #10 - Pendleton County (10-12)

The Wildcats scored a pair of impressive wins last week, first beating St. Henry 77-74 in Falmouth on Tuesday night. Dontaie Allen topped the team with 30 points in the win, while Mason Dennie scored 13 and Wade Browning 12. That same trio again led the Cats on Friday night, as the club pounded rival Harrison County 66-38 in Cynthiana. Allen had 22 points and 15 rebounds. Dennie netted 16 points and Browning 15.

    #11 - Harrison County (10-10)

Larry Kendall's club didn't see action until the weekend, which did not begin well. The Thorobreds lost to 38th District rival Pendleton County 66-38 at home on Friday, with no players reaching double figures in a poor performance. Harrison rebounded on Saturday, though, nipping visiting Fleming County 58-56. Jovon Williams had 16 points and Spencer Free 12 to lead in the win.

    #12 - Bourbon County (4-17)

The Colonels fell to 0-5 in District play after Tuesday night's 79-72 loss at George Rogers Clark. Bourbon led GRC 54-51 after 3 quarters, but the home-standing Cardinals were too strong in the 4th. Billy Orcutt led the team with 20 points and Ameryon Blackburn added 18. On Friday night Bourbon won on the road, 72-60, against Model. Blackburn's 21 and Orcutt's 18 keyed the victory. Titus Ransom and Austin Rankin chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

    #13 - Nicholas County (7-14)

Two home games and two losses for the Bluejackets last week. Nicholas entertained Frankfort on Tuesday and had no answer for Panthers senior forward Malik Frank, who dropped 45 points, as Nicholas lost 88-80. Trent Letcher topped the Jackets with 22 points. Logan Stafford had 16 and Spencer Morris 15 in defeat. On Saturday, visiting Bracken County overpowered the Jackets 76-64. Matthew Botner's squad has now lost 4 of its last 5.

    #14 - St. Patrick (9-12)

Jakaar Frey went for 19 points and 15 rebounds and Ben Swolsky scored 18, but the Saints lost to Augusta 67-61 in Maysville on Tuesday night. Matthew Taylor's club battled until the end, but came up just short of the upset. St. Pat took to the road Saturday and drilled Riverside Christian 65-28. Swolsky finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guards Jarrod McCall (12) and Brennan Bauer (11) combined for 23 points in the win.

    #15 - Calvary Christian (11-8)

Calvary was held to 20 points in Tuesday's 62-20 home loss to Bishop Brossart, but the Cougars won a pair of weekend home games in the Cougar Classic. Calvary upended Heritage Academy 62-25 on Friday, powered by Aikeem Riley's 23 points and Justin Wade's 13. On Saturday the Cougars nipped Evangel Christian 60-56, with the Riley/Wade duo again leading the way. Riley pumped in 28 points and Wade 25 to avenge a December 21st 12-point loss to the Eagles.

    #16 - Robertson County (5-14)

The Black Devils enjoyed a 2-1 week, which began on Wednesday night with a 79-56 win at Walden. Myles Murphy scored 27 points and corralled 9 rebounds to lead the way for Robertson. Mason Burden had a double-double of 15 points and 13 boards, and junior Dakota Moore netted 17 points. Robertson won again in Friday night's 71-61 overtime triumph over visiting Silver Grove, but John Brown's club ended the week with a 74-38 Saturday loss to Model in Sayre's Bluegrass Conference Challenge.

    #17 - Silver Grove (5-16)

After winning 3 games the week before, the Big Trains lost 3 games this past week. Bellevue came to Silver Grove on Monday and left with a 66-30 win. Randy Kuntz totaled 21 of the team's 30 points. On Wednesday night the Trains lost again at home to James N Gamble Montessori (OH) 56-28, with Kuntz tallying 11 points. Then the week ended with a tough 71-61 OT road loss at Robertson County on Friday.

Wade had 23pts and Riley 13 in the Heritage game.
