  1. There are TWO Logans from soccer on the FB team as kickers.

    Muck and Enxel

    That's why I was curious.

That is correct. My understanding is that they may share duties but so far only Muck has kicked in the one game and the scrimmage. Both looked like they kick well at least when they were warming up during halftime.

  2. Is Scott's Qb still hurt?

Both kids who have taken all the starting snaps are out. Season starter N Perrin is out as is his replacement R Muck. Both will hopefully be back after next weeks bye. Perrin is actually better suited as a RB so we will see what they decide to do after the bye week.

  3. Maybe they are? I don't know, just relaying what I was told from someone who saw them play all weekend long.

They were very good in all positions. They had two strikers that were very fast and had a very soft first touch. I hear they have several players who either ar or have been in a DA program and several others who play on a high level club team.

Passing was crisp, quick and one touch. Kept NCC chasing throughout the match. It was 7-0 at the half. Collegiate never took their foot off the gas and most starters played the majority of the second half as well. NCC made a few adjustments at half that obviously helped minimize the final outcome deficiency but overall they were clearly over matched.

Congrats to NCC for advancing that far!

  4. Be careful wayoffsides, some on here will be all over you for these comments and allow me to remind you by quoting him,

"Game control is an important job of the referee and cards are one of the tools for game control."

Switching back to yellow cards, there is something to be said for learning to play with a card. If a coach never allows his player to play with a yellow, the player can never learn to do so. So if the situation happens say the regional final game and an impact player receives a yellow card in the first half, he will have no experience of how to play the rest of the game carrying this yellow card. Last night may have not been the best time to gain this experience given the ALL A tournament this weekend, but maybe a game coming up. And if what you say is true, "Not sure he has ever played a match that I have witnessed where he has not received a card for physical play." it won't take long for this teaching situation to occur.

By the way about how many games have you seen NCC play this season…how many yellow cards does Muck have? Either you have not seen many games or he has a ton of yellow cards.

I have attended several matches and he has gotten a few as well as not. From what I have seen he is a very intense player who gets the attention of officials fairly quickly. It has also appeared that he has a tendency to not hold his tongue that has also resulted in a card or two. Hopefully for his sake that issue goes away with maturity.

I have also had opportunities to see his club team and he and his teammates do continue play after a booking. Last nights match was not so physical it warranted such heavy control IMO.

Thanks for the friendly warning and the reminder

  5. This is an area I think I (YC) am qualified to speak about.... mind you, one of the few.

If it is a policy at NCC, it is a very new one. I have seen multiple occasions in which a NCC player received a yellow and did re-enter the match.

My take on not re-entering last night... Although this is a great rivalry, last nights match was no more than that, the biggie between these two is still a couple of weeks away. The decision last night was probably made because of their All "A" matches this coming weekend. If I'm the coach, I also sit him last night, I do not risk not having Muck available this weekend.

You are wise beyond your years YC. It is my understanding that Muck was held out for that precise reason.

Unfortunately the crew last night has always had a heightened awareness of him and an extremely short leash. Not sure he has ever played a match that I have witnessed where he has not received a card for physical play. The foul last night was certainly not card worthy with both boys simply challenging for the ball. If the center thought it card worthy then could have gone either way.

I really only thought 2 cards were warranted during the match certainly not 5.

  6. I was told Scott played with out their starting qb.

Correct. In fact the young man had never played qb before and was asked Wednesday if he would take over from what I was told. Two days of practice was all he had to prepare. My understanding is that he (or someone) will have to hold down the fort for the next few weeks.

  7. Good discussion everyone I have enjoyed it. If you have a kid at sk via open enrollment that hasn't seen the field I wish you had opted to go to Scott. They could use just a few more good players to be competitive like last year. Good luck with the remainder of your season!

  8. All 3 KC high schools have benefited from open enrollment a time or two.

You have to admit that the majority of time it is one sided. As mentioned previously I know at least 4 kids in my own neighborhood who live in the Scott district that are at SK. Scott has about 25 total players so clearly 4 marginal 6a but solid 4a players would make a huge difference. Happy my kid chose to have an opportunity to play rather than be a sideline bystander when he was there. Kids are missing their only chance to play school ball. Not blaming SK. Not their fault kids opt to go there. Scott needs to somehow change their image despite being a good school with outstanding facilities.

  9. Who transferred from Scott?

They didn't transfer from Scott. In 8th grade they have the option to opt for open enrollment at a school outside their assigned district school. They live in Scott's district but apply to go to sk or even Dixie (but more often sk). They are accepted at that point to begin freshman year as an open enrollment student.

  10. Open enrollment absolutely hurts Scott. I personally know 4 players in my own neighborhood that are borderline players at sk that rarely see the field that are good enough to start at Scott and be solid contributors. They opt for open enrollment rather than attending Scott. Kids right now are opting to stand on the sidelines for 4 years hoping for a state championship. The irony is if a few of them attended Scott each year the would get to actually play AND get a chance for a ring. Until this stigma goes away it is likely to be this way.

About the game: Scott's best offensive and defensive player was out with injury. They started a qb that has never played the position before and had 2 days of practice to learn a few plays. A majority of the team consists of sophomores and juniors. All things considered I felt they never quit and continued to battle despite the result. Conner is a solid team but this game is no measuring stick.

  11. Ok--why not? From my vantage point, the first PK awarded to Snow came out of nowhere. Snow was turned the other direction and running out of the box to go for the ball. He stumbled and fell just inside the box and a PK was awarded.

What does any of this have to do with the official doing both the NCC game and this one? If you are referring to him awarding a pk to NCC late in that game being similar to what happend last night then I would be inclined to agree with his call last night. He got it correct in the NCC game so events of last night must be more in line with the description provided by yellow card.

  12. I hate it for Scott that they just can't sustain anything from year to year. They had a good run from 2013-2014 but that was about it in their long history.

I hate it for the school and fans and players that they can't get the players to keep them competitive year in and year out. I hope it changes soon.

Couldn't agree with you more. Sad thing is that there are players now that opt for open enrollment a few miles to the south that spend 4 years holding their helmets on the sideline that would start and likely even play both ways if they attended Scott. With as few as 10 players each year making the switch they would consistently be a 4a powerhouse. Unfortunately with open enrollment unless something radical happens this will be the trend. Scott gets a bad rap
