  1. JWCat, who do you think will be some players to watch next season based on the players that you saw this year?

I think Ryle might be the best team this coming season in NKY. I know that's not the most popular pick over Highlands and or Simon Kenton. JMO. Ryle played a lot of underclassmen last season, and have been hearing that a young man from Hazard is coming in to play QB at Ryle, hearing he's the real deal too. :idunno:

Top 3 players I'll be watching: Colin England Ryle, Dillion Powell SK, Brett Slusher, Beechwood. :thumb:

  2. This is a serious question, so please take it that way. What were the criteria that you used in putting your list together? Did you see all of these kids play during the course of the season or were you basing your selections off of the teams that were made public? If you have seen them in game action, I would be curious to know what games you saw live and in person.

I've seen a lot of these players play over the past 3 seasons. I go to a lot high school games, mostly Dixie games, and I know Dixie has had most of these seniors start since there soph. season. I'll use stats and what others friends of mine have seen at other schools, or watch hudl, along with seeing these players go against each other in person. This is just one man's opinion. My whole point was to pick the BEST players at each position. Having said this, some of these players who aren't the #1 at there positions, doesn't mean they aren't good football players. Not everyone can be the best at there positions. NKY has great and talented football players at many schools, which is the most important thing. Can't we all just get along.:thumb:

  3. Some may ? your definition of a nice game. Against Dixie in game 1 he had 25 rushes for 95 yards and 0 TDs...game 2 in the playoffs in the regional championship he had 7 rushes for 24 yards and again 0 TDS.

I think England is primed for a very good season. And if Powell can stay healthy he won't be too far behind in either yards or TDs. Both will be a lot of fun to watch this season!

How many running backs had 95 yds against Dixie Def. this season, guessing not many. My point was I think Powell is a better back then Armstrong of Cooper. JMO.

  4. Len Elmore said it best, uc doesn't have a point guard who can run this team right now, and no go to player down the stretch, which makes for a bad combination. This team will be hard pressed to get to the NCAA Tour this season. Don't give me the Mick not being there means nothing either, this is just a challenged basketball team when it comes to scoring, and yes these are Mick's recruits who can't score. This is just not a very good basketball team. :idunno:

  5. Considering the games themselves are largely won in the conditioning room, why not? Heard Sandlin broke the SK record for power clean at 310. What is the power clean record at your school?????

FYI, I have seen some huge, very impressive young men who can lift a house, yet weren't very good football players. Yes, Wts. and Cond. are very important, but don't turn this into who can left more, so there the better football team. BTW I think Sandlin is a very good football player.

  6. If you are going to base how good a back is by only looking at a game he only got 4 carries in, well then I can't help you.

Oh and to say Cooper played cupcakes...really? They were a 5A team that played every 6A team in NKY for their out of district games. Look at SK's out of district games before commenting on Cooper's schedule.

Cooper's out of District Schedule opponents records 42-33

(yet Cooper still made it to the State Semi final game)

Simon Kentons out of district opponents records 25-34-1

So do me a favor and do some research before telling us who had the cup cake schedule.

I do agree that all 3 you can't go wrong with, I just have a problem with your reasoning because it is very flawed especially if you think Cooper had an easier schedule than SK.

LOL, You do realize that almost a 3rd of Armstrong's rushing yards came against 2 teams, Grant County, and Anderson County, almost 600yds rushing, Both teams combined gave up over 4,100 yds. rushing, so YES, had England or Powell played against these two teams, I think both would have had more yards. I'll make it easy on you, if you had to take two of these 3 RB's who are you taking. I guarantee you more people will take England and Powell as there combo, over any combo with Armstrong, who is a very nice running back, but the question was who are the 2 best RB's in NKY this season, again I'll go with England and

Powell every time. I understand you're a Cooper supporter, which is fine, but you've got your rose colored glasses on for this discussion, which is fine. :thumb:

  7. :thumb:

They do have some good ones and I don't even know who will be playing for Highlands and Beechwood who usually have some pretty good RB's also.

This years rushing numbers for the 3 being discussed

    Armstrong 1753 yds

    Powell 1519 yds

    England 1082 yds

Here are my top 4 RB in NKY in order

    1) England Ryle

    2) Powell SK

    3) Armstrong Cooper

    4) Smith NCC

I saw all these players play this season, and some against each other. England ran and caught the ball well, and had a good game against Dixie, and SK, 2 6A top dogs this season. Powell, had nice games against Dixie, Ryle, and Cooper this season. I like Armstrong, but when he played against SK, and Dixie the two games I saw, he got next to nothing. I get SK, and Dixie have better O lines then Cooper, but to get a total of 9 yards against these 2 teams, is bad. Don't give me the " Well he didn't play that many snap against either team. My response would be had SK, or Ryle played some of the Cup Cakes Cooper did, either one of those backs would have had even more yards then Armstrong in those games. Don't get me wrong Armstrong is a nice runner, but I think England and Powell are better, JMO. The yards you talk about are impressive, but still think had England been healthy all season, he would have had more, not to mention Powell yards in rec. too. I get your a Cooper guy, but most on these boards, I think will agree with me. No hard feelings. All of these guys are good football players no doubt. :thumb:

  8. Only 3 kids from Highlands and they were the lone state champ. A few too many Kenton County kids if you ask me. Bo Hebel is for sure one of the top OL in NKY and Tyler Robinson fits into the top DL in NKY. I would also make an argument for Andrew Abner and Brady Murray as DB and LB respectively.

Remember this list was for EACH position, and Mr. Hebel is a tackle correct? I think he's the 4th best in NKY, behind Murrer, Cov Cath Johnson, Dixie and Olmstead, SK again he's a good player, but this list was the best at each position. If you think he is better then any of these 3 players fine, that's your opinion.

  9. Most likely because he got injured near the end of the regular season. Was a huge blow to the Birds, but they overcame it. In fact, they overcame several huge, impactful injuries.

I didn't have a vote in either poll, just saying he was second team in both polls, regardless of the reason, FYI, England of Ryle missed several games as well this season, but still made first team, again just saying. He's a very nice player and each person has there own opinion. To each his own.

  10. Andrew Abner of Highlands can't be left off any list. Arguably the best Safety in NKY if not the Tri State. Yes he is my Nephew and I'm a little(Lot) biased but asked the Blueboys who their Vote would be? The Cowboy roamed the Highlands D-Backfield for 3 years with some jaw dropping hits for his size. Didn't someone say that it is almost impossible to do at Highlands. Play significant time as a Soph! When the Cowboy was a Soph he filled in for an Injured Sr and when the Sr got healthy they couldn't get the Cowboy off the field. The Cowboy's nose for the ball and field swagger will be dearly missed. I could see Crosley New(Frosh) being another Safety like my nephew. Won't back down from no one and just has a Nose for the Football. Keep an eye out for Crosley the next couple of years. Crosley is someone that you either Love him or "Hate" him. Fortunately for us, he will be on our team.

That's your opinion, but both polls had him second team, Coaches' and Enquirer. I think he's a very nice player, but I do think there are a couple of players in front of him, that's all.

  11. Here are my best players at each position for the 2014 season:

    Offense:

QB- Beau Hoge (HHS) / Drew Moore (Dixie), each one was better at passing and running.

RB- Colin England (Ryle)- Was hurt a few games, but when he was on, he was the best RB in NKY

RB- Dillon Powell- Just a junior, think both England and Powell will have huge senior years.

TE- Andrew Hedger (Dixie)- Not a lot of TE that had great years, but did a great job blocking for Dixie's running game this season

T- Sam Murrer (CovCath)- I thought he was the best Off. Tackle hands down, is going to Miami, Oh, congrats

T- Brandon Johnson (Dixie)- Played both ways, and was also the best DT in NKY, IMO

G- David Sandlin (SK)- Just a Junior, thought he was the best guard in NKY this year

G- Logan Ross (Ryle)- Played guard, tackle, and center, very versatile.

C- Drew Brennan (Dixie)- A key part of Dixie's running game, very steady.

WR- Alex Veneman (HHS)- Huge year, set a HHS record for receptions, and yardage.

WR- Logan Winkler (SK)- I thought he was the best WR in NKY, even though he didn't get the ball thrown his way as much this season, is a play maker.

Taking three more players at any position on offense it would be T-Christian Olemsted (SK) and RB-Luke Zajac (Dixie) RB-Torey Cordell (Cooper)

    Defense:

DE- Colson Machlitt- (Dixie)- Played both ways for Dixie, and lead NKY in sacks, and tackles for loss, was the best DE in NKY.

DE- Brendon Combs- (Beechwood)- Had a very solid year, is a very good baseball player as well.

DT- Maleek Lawrence- Just a junior, he played both ways, and was NCC best lineman, on both sides of the ball.

DT- Brandon Johnson- (Dixie)- Hands down the best DL in NKY, and is also the reigning state wrestling champion.

ILB- Ryan Woolf (Ryle)- Lead all of NKY in tackles, and also spelled England at running back, very good football player.

ILB- Ben Owens (Dixie)- Lead Dixie's Def. in tackles, and his Def. averaged giving up only 17 a game, with 2 shutouts.

OLB- Barry Deaton(SK)- Most teams ran away from him, that is why his tackle total was down, an outstanding LB.

OLD- Cam Pitzer (Cov Cath)- Lead Cov Cath in tackles, with 95, had a very solid season.

C- Ethan Harrison (Dixie)- Shutdown corner, always got every teams best WR, was also named Dixie's MVP in the state game.

C- Isaiah Ebarb (Connor)- A junior, second on team in tackles, with 2 KR for TD's.

SS-Luke Zajac (Dixie)- A complete football player, played both ways, and was just as good at running back. I think he might have been Dixie's MVP for the season.

FS- Joe Studer (Beechwood)- Played both ways for Beechwood, might have been Beechwood's MVP this season as well.

K/P- Jared Dougherty (HHS)- Might be a top 5 kicker in the county, as a junior, hands down the best kicker in NKY. no offence to Lloyd/Cooper.

Taking three more players at any position on Defense it would be LB- Brett Slusher (Beechwood) DL Marcus Watson ( Cooper) Brendon Johnson (Newport) Both very good players.

  12. Next years home schedule is much better than this years home schedule. So the only way that we probably don't have games on tv, would be if the team gets off to a horrible start next year and just not doing well at all. However to start the year they will be on tv, and if they are winning then they will end up on tv for all the games. Only way they won't is if during the season they suck and not doing well.

Which BTW is a huge possibility, with it's away SCH. very tough. This team is going to be figthing, not only it's opponents next season, but the playoff hex as well. I'll telling you, not ALL the home games are going to be on TV next year, mark it down, fans are sick of it! :puke:

  13. I didn't want to hijack the Jameis Winston to stay at FSU Thread.

If Jameis goes Pro, how does his talent and skill set project at the next level?

Is Jameis as highly regarded coming out of college (if he leaves) as RGIII was?

RGIII was a "Can't Miss" talent as thought by many (Cats Cats Cats), is Jameis a "Can't Miss" as well?

The NEXT Geno Smith, no thanks, the kid's a total punk too it appears.

  14. It's sold tickets. Not how many actually show up. I don't see season-ticket numbers taking much of a hit. Maybe a little one, but nothing major. They'll do what they do with all their bad home games. They'll package them with games like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cleveland. The games they know will sell out. So when Pittsburgh and Baltimore and Cleveland fans buy up the tickets to see them play they'll be buying (and reselling) those games too.

I"m hearing season ticket sales are WAY down for next season already, to a point the Bengals brass is getting a bit concerned . I'm sure they'll do something like the Reds did though, have bobble head days. and or fireworks, after a game, instead of a good product on the field, the paying public would want to see. ALL Cincinnati Sports Problems are answered with: Bobble heads, and Fireworks, It's magic in the Nati!!! ! :dancingpa

  15. They only need to get to 85% capacity. It'll happen, not a doubt in my mind.

85%, not sure who in there right mind would go to the KC, ST. Louis. or Texans games @ PBS, next season, even if this team has the same record as this season, fans I really think are sick of it. Nothing is going to matter to a lot of Bengals fans, until they prove they can win a playoff game. Good luck selling this same stale product of digging ditches, and kicking down doors, and bringing a lunch, and breaking through windows, and doing your job, and so forth, as Marvin likes to say. This has got to stop with Marvin :puke:
