  1. Yes that does happen quite often. My son was permitted to play, but only to kick and attempt no tackles no matter the situation.

When I played in the very first game many many years ago, there were guys with full rides to UK that were permitted and actually did play in the game.

That's too bad as I am sure ALL of the boys want to play but have to abide by others' rules.

  2. It is scheduled for Scott High School at 7pm on Thursday, June 7th. West Athletes are practicing at Cooper 5 to 7 each evening.

Holy Cross has (4) players Dylan Couch, Sebastian Baker, Jason Russell, and Dominic Hassert.

Rumor has it that some of the big names (like Mayer) are sitting out. Cannot blame them - heck, they may have some stipulations forbidding play like this once they commit.

  3. You say confirmed...by who? Have not seen nor have not heard official announcement to the the HC Community. If the decision was shared with the existing players, so be it as that is understandable. However immediately next the school should have done this officially. Same thing happened with the girls varsity coach hiring. I consider myself pretty involved at the Cross but found out via Blue Grass Preps. Not that I don't consider you a reliable and legitimate news source, LOL, but I should have found it out first from the school officially. Similar to a press release. On the school's website, parent email distribution, and School Facebook page and other social media Outlets. A collaboration of communication from the school. Just extremely disappointed.

  4. That rule does apply even to a single person. I saw a game earlier this year where one person in the stands was making noise. The refs actually stopped the game and went over and told him to stop it.

I researched this at KHSAA and actually, this particular quoted rule does NOT apply to a single person not acting as part of a band nor was the music school provided ...

"J) Band or other school Provided Music During Live Ball

    1) The band is not to play or cheers be given when the ball is alive

    by rule.

    2) Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create

any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals. Drums,

cymbals, bells and mechanical noisemakers shall not be used to

    assist cheering."

This again is for a "SCHOOL BAND OR OTHER SCHOOL PROVIDED MUSIC DURING LIVE BALL"...a parent does NOT apply to THIS rule in the situation that occured...This rule was the one that was mentioned and therefore DOES NOT APPLY!

Now, for fairness sake, there may be times that the REFs can address this, but not under this RULE.

And obviously, the REFs did not see a problem with it yesterday afternoon or they would have halted it.

If a rule is quoted and stated the drumming violated that rule...you have it wrong. Quote the proper rule that you feel was violated and then we can argue that point.

  5. You do realize that it doesn't specify that it's ok if it's on a certain side or not. It's pretty clear (and by pretty I mean extremely) when it specifically say drums are not to be used to assist cheering.

It was not a band nor school provided music. It appears that the Section J you referred to doesn't apply to a single person.

Do you really, really think this influenced the outcome?

  6. As a girls basketball fan--I don't feel bad about saying this or any other truths, be them positive or negative, about this game or others---but, outside of parents of our girls across the state and our own school fan bases, there aren't many who have much knowledge of the girls game. They don't have the knowledge because they don't have the interest.

I have to agree with you. It seems like girls Basketball is a second class citizen vs. boys. I was in a conversation this week about the Holy Cross team winning state and was basically told (I am paraphrasing here)...that it doesn't count because they are girls. My face turned red and I had to walk away.

  7. Estill County shooting/point guard Kennedy Flynn has signed with Georgetowb

Okay - let's narrow this down a bit...Georgetown as in Georgetown College or as in Georgetown University??? Two completely different programs. One is a rather large Catholic institution while the other is a pretty small Baptist one. Oh yeah, one is D1 and the other is D2.

No bother - I am sure it is the school in Kentucky!

  8. I cannot say they are the best team ever from NKY. I don't have access to the complete histories of all the teams that could be included and don't even want to guess. We all know there have been some good ones. And I am sure everyone has their own opinions of who are the best and whether or not team A would beat this HC team but team B couldn't.

You can argue the same thing about whether or not they are the best team from Kentucky this year.

Facts are facts. IMO, getting it done and actually completing the season by winning the Kentucky Girls Sweet Sixteen Championship and mind you being the ONLY TEAM EVER FROM NKY to have this trophy on their mantle has to speak for itself. PERIOD. When the dust settles and the season is over, isn't that what really matters? They are the best!

  9. They did lose 5 seniors (4 started with Foster being the fifth) and more importantly Nell. They do have some young talent coming up like the Anderson girl who is a work horse. I hope the new coach doesn't play as tough of an out of conference schedule as Nell did. Boone played the 5th strongest schedule in the state this year. It will take some time molding the younger talent. Foster will have to put this team on her back and carry them. It's a role she's had before in middle school and as a freshman.

If you follow True Rank ... here's their final rankings of 2014-2015 including the State Tournament...

    https://www.truerank.org/2014-2015-ky-girls-basketball-rankings-jan-4.html

Boone County is 10th...FYI I am not correcting you but confirming your statement stating they had a tough schedule which I was unaware (that BC had such a tough schedule) for this year. IMO - SOS is very important especially come tournament time.

  10. GC coach is Holly Roberts Howell. Roberts is her maiden name. Best wishes to her in the future.

I think the other posts are for other rumors. While it seems the OP intended this thread for the GC news, it does seem open for people to share other rumors.

You are probably correct but the name of the thread states "Rumor on street is....." and implies it kinda is open to anything. Otherwise it should have said "Rumor on the streets of Gallatin Co is....."

  11. Curious if anyone else has made it 14 years in a row? Product this year of 3 good teams in district.

If Bellevue and Dayton would just shut it down already and merge with Newport, it would give NCC and HHS some competition. Otherwise I would say NCC and HHS are Regional locks for the foreseeable future.

I am going to go off on a tangent here... This is a very interesting observation. (3) public high schools all within 2.5 miles of each other. Even more so is that these schools are in (3) independent school districts.

According to the latest 2013-2014 AUDITED SCHOOL ENROLLMENTS, each school's attendance is as follows:

    202 - Dayton

    216 - Bellevue

    424 - Newport

    842 - Combined total

    353 - NCC

    940 - Highlands

Seems to be food for thought...and a huge savings financially.

Even more obvious is adding Silver Grove in the mix. They are also in Campbell County and have a grand total of 59 students. They are also in an independent school district. And just 8.5 miles to Dayton HS. That's what buses are for.

Financially, this makes a world of sense. Think of the savings of having only (1) football program. And having 900 students provides a more competitive environment to their program. Call it Northern Campbell County High School. Mascot would be something to do with the Ohio River as all (4) cities are river cities.

Okay - I went overboard but it does bring up conversation!
