  1. Ole Jack knew how to schedule as well. Never saw Mayfield on the Oakers schedule and no Tornado until later on. The great quote in the Sun of why they had to go to Lexington to play...because they had to go that far to find competition was classic. Lets see Mayfield, Murray, Union City...would have saved some fuel.

  2. An equally difficult question would be best linebacker group. I go with Kerry Sherrill, Steve Lovelace, Tony Brown. But, individually might go with Jonathan Jackson or Chris Barnes. Lots of good ones here too. Which, leads to the bread and butter staple of Mayfield football has been good RBs and LBs (and pretty solid at others as well).

  3. Fosko was a walking encyclopedia with a glass of tea. I always remembered talking with him at lunch the day when Cal Ripken broke the Streak. Someone said "I wonder who was playing shortstop for the other major league teams when the Streak began." Fosko named almost all of them.

  4. You totally misunderstood the post. It was TOTALLY 100% directed at the back judge and his partners. Big games deserve big game crews (channeling LV McGinty and some of the better old officials). Thankful that NO ONE said that officiating affected or decided the outcome of the game. My post did not do that. And, thankful that the game was not decided by them. Just pointing out that the officiating crew and one in particular was not top notch. And the very questionable pass interference calls went both ways. Nothing more, nothing less. Sorry you somehow think I took away from the quality of the game. Not my intention.

  5. Until this post, not a single word from either side about officiating, as it did not hand Mayfield the game or cost OCath. I think this shows how even the two teams were. Both well coached and great team defensive speed (OCath line and Mayfield LBs). As a Mayfield fan, thankful #3 didnt get many touches from the HB position.

With that said, sometimes you scratch your head when you watch a crew call a game. Even in a game that has bad calls a good crew still provides a good flow to the game just by the precise manner in which they make calls, mark off penalties and make decisions. This crew looked more like a crew you would expect calling a Fulton City - Murray blowout game.

AND IN PARTICULAR, the back judge missed 3 pass interference calls, 2 of which were major blown calls (against both teams). First, Kennemore gets bumped early in the game going across the middle (no call). Secondly, Kennemore goes down the right side and is not touched or close to being touched, ball is overthrown and the official throws the flag on OCath. Thirdly, on 4th down in the fourth, OCath goes down the middle, no contact, ball overthrown five yards and the hanky man arrives again.

  6. MVP for Caldwell, had the won, might have been the clock keeper. Had a real slow finger on the stop button on that last drive. Secondary contribution by the always annoying announcer who does quasi play by play while play is under way. But two well coached teams with good athletes who have shots at KHSAA titles again.

  7. Without a doubt the most inconsistent simple call in high school football is the touchback on kickoffs. I have seen it called/not called a multiple of ways. I see momentum carrying receivers into the endzone and it called and not called. I have seen the ball simply breaking the plane of the goal line and the receiver not allowed to return it. My point is that the officials either dont know the rule or dont know the interpretation. What exactly is the rule?

  8. Nobody should give credit to the Williamsburg coach for going for The two point conversion that was a no-brainer he had no choice. The real game changer for Williamsburg with when he elected to go for it on fourth down as opposed to taking the three-point field-goal ....huge mistake

If you were referring to my post, my point was not the call to go for it. That was a no brainer. My point was the play call. They had been running bootleg type stuff on that type situation and switched to the little dunk pass to the HB. Similar good call by Morris on the first play in OT. A new wrinkle for both.
